It seems that Google has dropped support for my ISY994.

I can still send manually from the account, but the ISY994 cannot connect to the mail server anymore. It was fine Feb 3rd, but now it cannot send.

I read that Google dropped connections from simple devices, so I figured that was the issue.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I notice a port error in that config, so I reset the passcode in the Gmail account fixed the mistake, and got s different error.

I just typed it in wrong in one of the many trials I ran.

I probably should mention my ISY994 is running firmware 4.9.0 and I am using only X-10 Modules.

Have you tried setting the "Use Default" checkbox? This uses UDI's mail server.

For the ISY 994 and gmail, you have to use an App password setup. Google went to two factor authentication that the ISY does not support directly. You have to go to Google and request a specific password that you will then enter in the ISY configuration. Do a Google search for App password Gmail.

Yes I did that APP Password thing years ago, and again yesterday just to make sure.

As for using the UDI Default setting as Guy suggested, I thought that was problematic, and got retired.

The Use Default setting works fine with the eisy. Maybe the fact that you're running 4.9.0 is incompatible with this, if they updated their connection method?

My ISY994 is running perfectly with the firmware it has. I do not want to risk years of tweaking to update firmware if it is not needed.

It is strange that the problem just started occurring now. If Gmail is still working fine then why can't I connect to it?

I was running 4.9.0 up to last week with no problems with Gmail notifications. I moved to 5.3.4 just to be able to add a new siren. I believe the Gmail would still be working with 4.9.0.

What is your timeout setting? Mine is at 3000 ms. Seems like I had to change that at one time. SMTP port is 587. Use TLS checked. Use Default unchecked.

@Techowl the instructions in the wiki for setting up the gmail account still work as of somebody using them to set up within the last few weeks.

One thing to try is change the time out to 10,000. You might also want to add something in the "From" portion. Then when you try a test message make sure you have a recipient selected for it to send the test to.

If you're only using x10 devices and you've had it working on 4.9 as long as you have then I agree with you that I wouldn't want to change the firmware. There were "big" changes in the ISY994 from 4.x to 5.x that would probably require some adjusting.

As for using the "default" in 4.9. That was changed due to additional security steps added on the UD side in a 5.x update due to server settings to block unrelated parties from using UD servers to send messages. It was behind the scenes (as best as I recall) and was not implemented in older firmware versions so you more than likely would have an issue using the default server.

It seems I have done everything at least twice to try to resolve this issue.

If updating the firmware would solve my issue with using Gmail (or use the default mail server instead), then maybe I should consider that more closely.

I would ask UDI

Might sound strange but try to put something in the From* field (Edit.. I see Geddy also mentioned this above). I recall I had an issue and that resolved it for me and it still works (not using default myself as that had issues some time ago). Likely gmail rejecting if blank.

I also do not fill out the full @gmail.com and only use my user ID and it works fine. Doubt that is it but worth a try if you still have issues.

As you already mentioned do make sure you use the App PW. It will not work without that for sure.

I tried your method, but, alas, it did not work for me.

I tried the "Default" mail server and it works now! I will use that until I can resolve the Gmail issue.

I have put the question to the Google forums, so We will see if they know of a solution. I will let the thread know the results.

Here are my settings and it works on an ISY 994i 5.3.4:

@Techowl I havent been using the email option for a long time, but decided to try to set it up.

I followed the advice below and it worked immediately with the settings as shown above by @Ross

@Techowl Seems like a weird answer, when your last message said the above, that you have NOT solved your problem with gmail.

My post was to help you with the gmail issue, and hence why I reposted BCreekDaves post. I was having the same difficulty until I followed the instructions I posted which you have NOT said you have followed specifically, just that you "tried your method", insinuating the post directly above yours by Ross.

Answers like yours dont encourage people to actually want to help when I have read every post and it seems like you actually didnt.

For what it's worth. I have been using gmail for at least a decade now and it still works just like always.
