Andre Douyon Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I have two other thermostats on the 2nd floor. One controls the air conditioner, while the other controls the heat. The AC unit uses 3 wires, G green wire, RC - red wire, & Y - white wireand is battery operated. The Heat unit uses 3 wires as well, however one wire is jumped. W, RC & RH are jumped and RH. SO I have a white wire going to W, RC and RH share a small black wire jumping them together, and RH uses a Red wire. Is the VT1700 or 1800 going to work with this current wiring. As mentioned in other post, I can run neutral from switch below to both of these thermostats id necessary, and if you agreed that this was a acceptable configuration to do.
LeeG Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 As I mentioned in your other post the Venstar thermostat does NOT run on 120V AC so running a Neutral to the thermostat serves no purpose. You will need 5 wires running to the Venstart thermostat (or 4 wires with a special 2 wire kit that shares 1 wire between two functions making for 5 wires). The Smarthome forum Thermostat category is the right place for installation questions regarding the Venstar thermostats or Venstar itself.
