"dummy" admin consol?

Featured Replies

OK, this is not high on my wish list, but often at work when I have a few minutes it would be great to try to interface with my isy, however, our firewall at work prohibits it (for sure as Michel has tried to fix), so I was wondering if there was a "dummy" admin console available where could at least see the programming interface at work to check out some syntax's. Does it exist?

Have you tried using a VPN from work? If for some reason I run into blocks, I just log into my home router (via VPN) and I have access to anything I have access to at home. I use DrayTek routers---bulletproof.

(Michel) Why wont a VPN work?

Sounds like you have an "allow only" proxy....

1. Have you given up/don't want to work on it?

2. Did you consider asking your company's IT folks?

(Michel). I wasn't by any means "selling" DrayTek. I was selling what I thought i knew about VPN. I believe many inexpensive routers also boast a VPN, I think. I have been blocked in hotels by firewalls that would not allow coomunication to some things, ISY one of them. After setting up a VPN, I have not been blocked for awhile. Only a thought.

Hello aLf,

You are correct ... I was not talking about DrayTek per se but most inexpensive routers (in $30.00 to $50.00 range) do not have this feature.

Also, corporate firewalls are much much much more stringent than any other firewalls (except government) in that they do NOT allow communications with private IP addresses (those assigned by ISPs).

With kind regards,

Michel

Have you considered Windows Remote Desktop? Most offices don't restrict it and you could connect to your home computer and access anything you want. It's built right into all versions of the Windows OS.

I used to use Logmein but now that is resticted

Give Remote Desktop a try, do not be intimidated! LOL. It's easy to setup, the hardest part is setting your home router to allow the ports and direct them to the computer you want to access.

Failing that, if you want the really easy way out, try GoToMyPC. I suspect that won't be restricted either, however, it costs something like 9/month.
