Guest Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Greetings everyone. I just got my ISY-99i this week and I'm going through the process of "finding" all my Insteon switches in the UD Console. So far, I've been able to use the "Start Linking" function with good results finding each device, however, I have two keypadlincs in my living room that it won't seem to find. I've also tried entering their unique xx.xx.xx address and still no luck. Other KPLs on my system have been discovered fine by the linking feature. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Brian H Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Do you have a pair of Dual Band Devices. Where one is on each phase of the home and the communications tests where confirmed?
Guest Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Yes I do. A little background, I've got an Insteon network that's been running fairly well for about 4 years. I used a PLC and Powerhome to create all the links and program On Levels and Ramp Rates but nothing more fancy than that. Recently while trying to get Powerhome on a newer laptop and fix some buggy links I was starting to have, my PLC blew a gasket - a great opportunity to upgrade to the ISY! So now I'm recreating my network and links through the ISY and I'm having trouble locating these 2 KPLs. I've already configured 8 other KPLs without issue (as well as some other dimmers and relays).
Guest Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Looks like I'm having the same issue with a LampLinc 2456D3 V2.7. Any help?
Teken Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Looks like I'm having the same issue with a LampLinc 2456D3 V2.7. Any help? Chris, As painful as this may sound. If you have ensured proper bridging of both legs of the single phase of your electrical system. Also, if you have removed, filtered, or identified all noise and signal suckers with in the building. The most direct approach is to take that switch and wire it in to a spare cord / romex what ever. Then, link it, reinstall the device, then you should be good to go. I had three installs where there was absolutely no interference, no problems with correct bridging of the both legs, or otherwise. Came down to, too much wire from one end of the home for the signal to arrive, and then ack the ISY commands. After wiring the KPL's, switches, outlets, to a temp cord and enrolling the device it was all green and good to go. Teken . . .
Guest Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Thanks, I may give that a try. What's killing me is that this switch has been working in this location for 4 years. I programed it using Power Home years ago and have been able to communicate with it fine. Now what's really got me is this: I had a brand new, never used KPL (2486D V1.4) which I swapped into this location and STILL cannot find it through the Admin Console.

Chris, I don't want to sound like a broken record. But, I would ask you to kindly confirm there is absolutely nothing plugged in that could cause any sort of comm issues. It will take less time to unplug all the devices in that area, or even better to simply kill the breakers to determine if there are other factors at play here. Even if you get the KPL enrolled, if there are noise / signal suckers in the environment you will not have a 100% reliable network. Please double check the home for anything new, or old items that may be affecting your network. Worse case, you find nothing, and simply enroll the KPL via the temp cord. If it enrolls fine, and then when you install it in its final resting place and there are still comm issues. Then, you know there are gremlins still abound that require your attention . . . BTW: If you haven't rebooted and updated the firmware lately that would be a good start too!
Michel Kohanim Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Chris, In addition to Teken's suggestions above, please note that PLC was MUCH more powerful (transmit) than the current PLM you have. On the other hand, the PLM is dual band so it would give you more flexibility as far as bridging the phases. The first question I have is whether or not your PLM is connected to the same outlet as the PLC used to be connected to? The second question is whether or not you still have your PLC online and, if so, is PowerHome still communicating with some (or all) of your devices? And, finally, if you are still having problems it's best to call our tech support team and schedule a remote session since troubleshooting via forum is perhaps not that efficient. With kind regards, Michel
Michel Kohanim Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Chris, When you get a chance please send an email to support@universal-devices.com. I think you have one of those dual band PLMs that might be causing all these errors. It's very important for us to get you a new PLM. With kind regards, Michel
Guest Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Thank you both. Michel, I sent an email to tech support since you suggested my PLM may be bad. I'll also check on the interference potential suggested by Teken. I know I have a baby monitor that could cause some issues, but again, it's been there for a year and a half. My PLC is no longer plugged in and to your other question, the PLM is not plugged into the same spot since it needs to be connected to my router. As for rebooting and updating the firmware, I just got the PLM and ISY last week. It's brand new. Dhould I still look into this? Not sure how to do it. Other than this, I'm loving it! Just got to get through the learning curve! I have some other questions I'll save for another topic.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Hi Chris, Thank you and I got your email. May I humbly suggest trying the same outlet as your previous PLC. This will rule out noise/phase issues on the current outlet. Also, if you are trying to install RF devices (especially thermostats) you have to make sure that the baby monitor does not interfere. 3.1.15 should be out shortly and you might want to give it a try as 2.8.16 does not have support for all the new devices. With kind regards, Michel
