Large campus & Thermostat question?

Featured Replies

I wanna be able to control a thermostat remotely, and be able to get alerts if the thermostat gets changed by someone that shoudnt do it.

Should I get the venstar T1800 with a ISY99i, which comes out close to $500, or I can get some other wifi thermostat that can do that, (I havent found one yet that can get me alerts as good as the Isy).

I dont have or need any other insteon devices for this building at the moment.

On a total different note.

I have a large campus with lots of buildings, I wanna control a thermostat in 1 building and switches and 220 wall A/c in a different building, would I be able to control all buildings through 1 ISY, by somehow connecting some insteon device thru my existing cat5 wires etc. they are on seperate electric panels.

This I cannot answer.

You can do it with two ISYs communicating with one another. Unless, the distance between campuses can be covered by INSTEON RF but I doubt it based on your description.

With kind regards,

pikach-

Are both buildings on the same Ethernet network ? If so, An ISY (with the network resources module and either a dual band PLM or an access point) for the building with the thermostat. The dual band PLM or access point are required to communicate with the RF only thermostat. For the other building, you may be able to use a SmartLinc controller for the Insteon devices there and operate those over Ethernet from the network resources module via the SmartLinc. Not nearly as nice as having them all on the same Insteon network but I think this can meet your stated need.

Michel, LeeG - Thought or comments on this approach ?

Hi Xathros,

Yes, I think having two ISY's on two different locations, communicating via network resources, would work fine.

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks, but if I do that would I be able to control them from one place, or I would have to login to each one individually to control my devices, ? their on the same network.

You can certainly configure things such that you could do all of the control from one place. You would still be able to control the second ISY or Smartlink independently if you wanted as well.
