Hi sloop, long time no see ...

The first thing is to figure out what firmware version you have. If you can telnet to ISY, then all you need to do is to type VE at the command prompt.

If your ISY is way too old, then it would be best to:

1. Factory reset ISY (press and hold the set button for 30 seconds)

2. Try http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/admin.jnlp

If that does not work either, please contact our tech support and we'll help you out (link is below).

With kind regards,

had to do a restore to yet another failed keypad

it worked - i'm shocked

should i reset the isy before i have the new plm here?

should i update the firmware before i have the new plm here?

do i need the new plm to access the admin console?

i am going to sell this house and debating ripping all this stuff out before i put it on the market

sloop,

If you are selling the house, I think it would be a waste of your time going through everything again. The fact that your system never worked properly and that it's so old (2.7.15 is about 3 years old) tells me that you are going to have a hell of a time getting everything back to functional.

If you so choose to go ahead with ISY anyway, then:

1. Don't do anything till you get the new PLM (you also need a power supply)

2. Factory reset ISY

3. Upgrade the firmware

4. Add your devices/scenes

Do not go overboard with scenes as the PLM still has the 1000 limit.

With kind regards,

Michel

sloop,

As per your posts above, the Admin Console is working. So, I do not understand the question.

The main point is NOT to start adding devices/scenes with the old PLM because you HAVE TO replace it and all you have done might be lost (especially in your case). So, what else can you do with the Admin Console without any INSTEON devices?

With kind regards,

Michel

I am having the same problem. Used to work fine, but now it just hangs trying to access the admin console for the ISY. Only version of Java is Java 7 update 5. I suspect Oracle changed something that broke it.

You are correct. Roll back to Java 6 and you should be fine again.

what i need to do is to restore some devices

these craplinks lose their data

i am trying to decide if i should leave this crap in the house when i sell it - if a new buyer could (or would be willing to) administer it - or even keep it working

i asked a realtor and she said to leave it - but she does not know that it is a headache - and anyone buying the house would have to reprogram the entire thing - they would need access to the admin console

My bad! Several other people here had run into issues with Java 7 and the ISY. They were able to resolve by rolling back to Java 6. I guess some progress has been made since then with Java 7.

I figured out what happened. Because of the Java update, the Microsoft Firewall thought it was a new program and was blocking communication. I tried the admin.jnlp which initially didn't work because it was not associated with the Java Web Start. Once I told Windows to open that with Java Web Start, I got the Windows Firewall blocking messages. I unblocked it and bingo, the Admin console came up!

Xpendable, which programs did you identify for the windows firewall to allow access?

The way I found it was by downloading the admin.jnlp file and running it. I had to re-associate jnlp files with Java Web Start by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "Open With..." and choosing Java Web Start. Once I did this, Windows prompted me with a message telling me that this program was "blocked" and offeres two options on this message: "Unblock" and "Keep Blocking". Obviously choosing "Unblock" is key. Hope this helps.

I hope this helps someone else avoid frustration. I was unable to open the admin console as well and kept suspecting issues with Java 7 or Windows firewall, but couldn't get it to work. Finally I turned my attention to AVG Anti-Virus. I disabled the LinkScanner and when I ran the admin console I was finally asked by Windows firewall if I wanted to unblock the application. One I unblocked the admin console in Windows firewall it started up just fine. I then re-enabled the AVG LinkScanner and the admin console was still able to run.
