Seb50 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Hi everybody, I recently updated my ISY-994 from version 3.2.6 to version 3.3.8. With the 3.2.6 version I started having issues, to be more specific my ISY was not sending emails anymore for some reason. I updated to version 3.3.8 hoping the problem would be solved but unfortunately it is not. Even when I try the test button it does not work. If I try to send a text message that's no problem. How do I solve this issue? Why did it stop all of a sudden. I was under the impression the ISY was a reliable source for sending emails? The IP address indicated in the Network Settings is the same as indicated in the help section of the ISY. The Subnet Mask address is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway and DNS are the same (found by performing "ipconfg" method). The Http port is 80 and the Https port is 443. How do I fix the issue?
apostolakisl Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Are you using your own email server or are you using ISY's default? Last I checked, ISY's server was offline. That started a week or two ago. Try putting in your own smtp server settings. Also, make sure to follow the format listed for the "from" section.
Seb50 Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Yes the Default is selected. Ok, so I added my own email information and it now works. I now receive emails from the ISY. Is their a difference in using these different approach or does it come down to a preference? Is one method more reliable? Thanks for your help
apostolakisl Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 UD I think was trying to make the world simpler by providing their own mail server to all ISY owners (thus no settings for the user) (and except when their server is down ) Your reliability is now subject to your mail server instead of UD's. There are of course other reliability issues like a stable internet connection , but those issues would be the same regardless of what mail server you use.
Michel Kohanim Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Hello apostolakisl, You are 100% correct and unfortunately it seems that our new server's IP was at some point used by spammers and thus all the issues we currently have with mail being blocked mostly by domains owned by AT&T and Microsoft. We have cleared up a lot but, unfortunately so, both ATT and MS have been very very slow in responding. With kind regards, Michel

The issue I encountered now is that for some reason I don't get all the email I plan to get. I set up a few test rules to test if everything is working properly. Basic rules such as, if front door physical status is open, email so and so. I did this for several doors but some always work and some work a few times. Is this normal? Why would so events not spark an email?

Why would so events not spark an email? Whether this is "normal", I would say not. As to why this is happening, it could be several causes. Perhaps the ISY is not seeing the change in physical status for some reason? Perhaps one of your programs that triggers an EMail message has a flaw? Perhaps still there is technical problem with your email system (less likely, in my mind). To troubleshoot, I would first watch the status of whatever device you are using to monitor door condition. Does it consistently and accurately reflect real status? If this is working well, watch the program status. Does it trigger when you expect? Do you see any indication that the programs are not running as you expect? All this is done through the ISY. Any device status can be monitored via the admin panel listing of devices. Select any device that interests you, and the status will be shown. To watch programs, you can select the programs tab and you can see a summary listing of all your programs, their current status, last run time, next run time, etc. Using tools like this, you should be able to further isolate the cause of your inconsistent EMail response.
