Printing Insteon Buttons for clear button covers
@stillwater @Athlon @MrBill Here is my Excel file. You need decent scissors (and eyesight) - you'll get it right on your 6th attempt. Don't laugh at my designs, please! Athlon - since it's behind the acrylic button pane, the type of paper may not matter much. The acrylic gives it a nice pop. The thickness was more important for me to control the amount of LED light that bleeds through. Regular copy paper is too thin and the light washed out the design. I had some 32 weight paper in my drawer and that's as far as I got as it looked fine to me. Finally, when you pop off a normal button, you can see - behind where it was - there's a clear acrylic pane on the keypad. Make sure that stays on there (they can fall out) as that is what keeps the paper snug between it and the clear button. Ross Keypad Buttons - UDI.xlsx

Printing Insteon Buttons for clear button covers
I print them on white, 98 brightness, 32 pound paper. A normal printer can handle it and it's thick enough to see what's printed on them even when the LED behind it is on. I've only played with regular copy paper (not thick enough) and this. I use MS Paint to color in the backgrounds - a sometime tedious process. Cutting just inside the lines and a trim or two makes a good fit inside the button. I print more than one because my eyesight isn't all that great and I don't get the cut right sometimes. Just drop it in the button and put it on the keypad - it stays in place. Nothing sticky necessary. The spa button doesn't turn the spa on (but it could, I guess). It just lights up when the spa > 95 degrees. I don't like stepping into a spa not realizing the heater didn't work. By the way, Excel columns need to be 44 pixels (and 2 cells merged together) for the 2 wide buttons on a 6-button keypad. I'm afraid we're about to get in trouble for hijacking this topic...

Printing Insteon Buttons for clear button covers
Just FYI, I've downloaded pictures, shrunk them to size and cut them to fit the buttons. Examples are a light, spa, fan, snowflake (for A/C), flame (for heat), dinner bell, gate, xmas tree, door lock, stairs, bedtime, off/on stupid router, musical note, etc. Maybe not as professional as etching, but it only takes a glance to know what the button does and it passed the critical wife approval test. I made the cells in an Excel sheet just bigger than the button (rows 25 pixels and columns 40 pixels for the 8 button keypad) and inserted the picture into the cell (resizing, of course). I usually use either white or #FDF0BF for the background color. Here are some examples:

Logging variables on demand
@MrBill's idea of having a node server log to Google Sheets is something I've been hoping would happen for a while (I requested it a couple of years ago). I was successful in logging to GS with Network Resources and IFTTT, but it was cumbersome. While at it, it would be nice to go the other way - type a number in Google Sheets and have it write to a variable (I can do this with Rest; however, it then takes me to another webpage and I'd rather it stay right there. I've looked at @Bumbershoot's CSV. However, I couldn't figure out a way to "automatically" get the CSV to a Google Sheet so I can see it when I'm away from home. Maybe there's a simple step that I'm missing. I will make my requests under Product Requests per @Geddy's advice.

Insteon HUB (2245) cloud servers shut down
@ClickChick I believe you said earlier that you bought the USB dongle. You'll now need to either buy the Polisy or wait for developing news as to whether UDI will be involved with Insteon's assets (including Hub servers). Keep following these message boards as I imagine things will shake out in the next 2-3 weeks.

Insteon system now useless...converting to ISY994i
There are many folks just coming to this board for the first time and it pains me that they get castigated - they are totally freaking out! The 2nd sentence is fairly helpful but the first is quite unnecessary. May we just have a weeklong moratorium on snark while their worlds have been upended? If you can't help yourself, just say something like <snark omitted> to get it off your chest and then type the helpful part.

Insteon HUB (2245) cloud servers shut down
I will say that this is a Golden Opportunity for UDI and those who support UDI to take a moment this weekend to determine how best they can assist all of these hub users who have been thrown to the wolves. Not to be snarky, but there really needs to be a "Polisy for Dummies" board on here and a step-by-step transition for all the non-tech hub owners to come over to UDI. Maybe UDI needs to buy about 1000 UBS Dongles to help with the transition. As I've said before, many on this board talk over the head of many trying to learn what they need to do next - ClickChick above is a perfect example of who we should bring on board and assist. It will take a bit of dedication. ClickChick - most of us feel your pain and would like to help you. Polisy is not as crazy as you think, but it can be scary to jump into. However, if you have a lot of Insteon devices, it's your only option at the moment. Ross

No inventory
@bhihifi Thank you for this. Another example of me sitting at home being frustrated and not thinking that there was a question to be asked about how to do this better. Tips and Tricks!

No inventory
@lilyoyo1I bought some mini-remotes recently. The return label had an Irvine, CA address. I looked it up on the map and it was in one of those industrial parks.

I'm no longer a newb, but I am far from an expert with all of this. I wholeheartedly agree with larryllix's post. Sometimes I'm "afraid" to ask a question here because of the attitude I've seen brought upon others. I do use the search to try to find answers; however, if I only search for one word, I get 16 pages of answers. Selecting one of them puts you on p. 9 of a forum which makes you start from the beginning to make any sense of things. If I add a couple of other words in quotes, I get nothing. Sometimes us folks somewhere in the middle of the newb-expert continuum don't even know how to phrase what we're asking. I've appreciated those on this board who have been patient with me and others without being condescending. Mr. Bill, Bob P and others have been most helpful - and patient. I have lurked about 98% of the time and only post when I'm at wit's end or see a chance to be helpful to others (such as this post). Once an issue is resolved, I wish it could be archived somewhere as I really don't want to read 30 posts with meaningless (to me) logs and suggestions (some helpful, some not) about how to solve it. Regarding this topic, it seems that most things are shipped out of a storefront in Irvine, CA. Maybe one of you SoCal folks can go over there and ask them what's up? If you see what YOU consider to be a dumb question, please ignore it. Ross

Polyglot cloud stopped working?
Carealtor, Have you heard of the dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac? He stayed up all night wondering if there was a dog. I would go back and edit my mistake, but then no one would understand the context of this post. Thanks, Ross

Polyglot cloud stopped working?
lilyoyo1, Regarding the security issue and shutdown of PCG, I have not seen an update nor any indication of when an update may be forthcoming. I understand I have to read them; however, the official announcement by Michael has 0 replies. That's why I jumped to this topic because it's the only other one I've found that was in the same boat. I will keep looking. I get that many answers are "somewhere in the forum"; but, unfortunately for casual users, it's not always innate for us to know where to look for things in the forum. The answer could be on the 18th page of 28. I have read many of your posts (not all 5,400 of them) and I appreciate your contributions to this board. I also realize that I may be the only one with my issue. I've already posted a comment to the developer on, I believe, the appropriate board and I need to have patience for the response. Thank you, Ross

Polyglot cloud stopped working?
I would be pleased if someone would either give a periodic update or let us know when to expect an update as to when those nodeservers will be available either on PGC or the Polisy nodeserver. I'm using the PCG Sonos Controller written by Simplextech which has more features (e.g., playlists) than the one on the Polisy nodeserver. I understand mine is a 1st world problem! Newb here. I'm not sure why there are 3 nodeservers (PCG, Polisy, PG3). Do the NS's have to be written differently for each? Thank you, Ross

Does ISY check "schedule" in a program continuously?
ISY Newbie, Every event will trigger the ISY to review (my newbie word) all of its programs. If the event IS NOT mentioned in the IF section of a program, then that program is ignored and it moves onto the next program (we're talking milliseconds here). If the event IS mentioned in the IF section, then it runs the THEN section if all of the IF section is true or the ELSE section if any of the IF section is false. Bonus information - Not that you asked, but any change in a State variable is considered an event (thus triggering the ISY to run programs that contain that State variable in the IF section). However, if an integer variable changes, it is not considered an event. Regards, Ross

Does ISY check "schedule" in a program continuously?
ISY Newbie, Since I am a newbie myself, I will talk "Newbie" to you as that is the only language I know... You are absolutely right - the From/To phrase makes you think that it will check continuously. I thought the same thing myself. However, it doesn't (thank you MrBill for explaining it to me). The program evaluates only at those 2 times (sunset and next day's sunrise). When lilyoyo1 said the ISY is event driven, he means that something has to happen (a certain time, light-on, light-off or, really, any condition that the ISY knows about) has to occur which then triggers the ISY to go through its programs to see if any program should be evaluated because something (an event) happened. Your original question was about the ISY checking continuously throughout the night and turning a light back on "at some point" if it's turned off. Since the ISY won't check continuously but, with a tweak, can evaluate its programs when the light is turned off (this is considered an event), we need to incorporate that info into the program. Asbril's first post has the appropriate program. He just used "Wait 2 minutes" because you said "at some point". However, you can use any interval you want with a minimum of 1 second. TrojanHorse - post #2 is completely accurate; however, it's written above newbie level. I understand what you said there, but I don't think it would have sunk in during my first few weeks of programming. I hope this is helpful, Ross

How does one control the order programs run in ISY?
MrBill, I'd like to understand your sentence "In your example..." as I'm confused by the From... To... I believe what your saying is that my program below would only run the Then at 8am and the Else at 2pm. However, as long as it's between 8-2, the fans will turn on when the temp hits 75 - could be 9am or 11:30am. I'm missing something but I don't know what. Will you please explain what is happening? Thank you, Ross

Davis WeatherLink Live
Gary, Near the bottom of the "DarkSky Acquired by Apple" forum topic, I asked about a Weatherlink IP nodeserver. There, I provided the api documentation to Bob. He is going to take a look. Thanks, Ross ,
