The problem with the tool is that it only works for Insteon devices produced after March 2013. So, anyone with legacy devices in their home this diagnostic tool will not operate on. Secondly, with the advent of the newer firmware v.43 in several devices. It appears the diagnostic aspect is being deployed with in each of the Insteon devices instead. ie. The device will show same phase / opposite phase. The device will blink green if the receiver has ack the message. It will blink red if one or more devices do not ack the message. Rebroadcasting of messages, and message clean up as well. With the Beacon test if you see the end devices blinking this tells you the sender message is arriving. When ICS3 protocol comes out I expect to see even more consistent and reliable COM's and feature sets. I have been one of the first to throw Smarlabs under the bus when warranted. But, am also the first to Ack when I see progress and development in a product. I believe some great products and features will be released in the not too distant future from Smartlabs and the engineers should be proud in pushing the Insteon protocol forward. Now, they really need to get the e-docs straight and provide release notes that coincide with the product being sold and offered to the public.

As a follow up you really can't go wrong with purchasing a On / Off Relay, Lamp Linc plugin module over the Range Extender. The former provides you dual use where as the latter only provides coupling and repeating RF signals to the power line. If you're going to have a wall wart might as well have some use out of it!

If anyone can shoot me a link to obtain the Busy Rat software that would be most helpful. I am still in the mist of trying to get my Insteon enabled Flood Stop to communicate with my network.

Hello Gary T, Smartlabs recommends one repeater for every 1000 feet. If the bulk of your Insteon system are those installed into metal JBOX's. the RF portion will be extremely limited. If you have several plug Insteon devices from lamp linc, On / Off Relay, Range Extender, and have confirmed the proper coupling / bridging via the 4 tap beacon test out lined in the full users manual. You should be good to go. Note, some X10 repeaters are known to cause issues like the older X10 Booster Linc's. If your previous X10 install was reliable and consistent in performance you have no doubt already addressed all the noise makers / signal suckers.

That link and his blog has been up for more than a year. As to why he hasn't been around its more than likely he's just living life and hasn't had a need to come to the UDI forums because all is well in Insteon land.

The link you provided is from a ISY owner member: ELA, who is the creator of the ELAM.

LeeG, How does the repeat open / close message work in this device?
-
It looks like this feature has now been released please review this thread: http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/14971-heartbeat-function-on-2843-222-rev19-openclose-sensor/

For those who own the hidden door sensor. Does it have a low battery and heart beat option box? A screen capture of the ISY options listing would be very helpful here.
-
The options list has a check box for low battery, and heart beat? When you set battery level are there other options to change for the battery or is it just enable / disable the low battery level warning? For the heart beat is it just a field box that can be populated with any value from 0 to 24 hours?
-
For the benefit of others please provide a screen capture of the options for this device. I was told the open / close would not have any updates until the new year. Clearly, if you have the ability to change the heart beat rate and a third node is now present that is a great upgrade for all of us! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You will need both the hardware and software module to use the IR feature. If you look in the little hole on the right there would be a silver round thing. Under the settings you would also have a IR tab. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, having a KPL with a red defuser is one of the best indicator lights you could ever have for various remote locations. I have a few and love them! [emoji4] I have three LCD displays in the master bedroom, front entrance, and secure room which shows all the zones in the home and property. I think if people use and understand the limitations of Insteon its a great extra layer that people can use effectively. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No, because I already have a I/O linc which controls and monitor the GDO. The purpose and intent of the wireless Insteon sensor was to have a third layer of monitoring of the position of the door without the reliance of AC power. My security alarm system already monitors the GDO independently. My use case was for another method to determine the position of the door for safety reasons. There are four cameras which monitor and watch for the door position also. Essentially the open / close sensor was deployed to allow more logic in the Insteon network all the while providing alert notification should any one system fail or be off line. You didn't. A person would need to be diligent in changing out the battery once a year and confirming operations. This is part of the reason I have considered deploying the leak sensor instead for the benefits listed above. Future open / close sensors will have both but the time line for release is unknown. No, this device does not have a heart beat / low battery indicator. You could always repurpose a leak sensor as a open / close sensor. You would need to solder or attach two wires to a external reed magnet device. Then relabel the wet / dry node to open / close. The only thing you can't change is the icon that reflects the wet water sensor. But in the big picture that isn't a big issue. Using the leak sensor program from Belias you can then receive open / close alerts, heart beat, and know if the device is in range of a RF device. I am converting three of mine to do so as a test next month. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I believe if you take into consideration that the unit is not weather rated and will at least be inside of the garage opposed to being on the outside. You may find the Open / Close sensor to be a great fit and solution for basic monitoring. Keep in mind you should be using high quality Lithium batteries as they operate much better in sub zero temps. It goes with out saying proper RF coupling needs to be in place if you want consistent performance. I've had two of them outside for more than four years and they have worked flawlessly in minus -50'C weather. Note, Smartlabs does not indicate or advertise the device will operate in such extreme weather conditions. So, no throwing rocks on them if the device dies under the two year warranty period.

You need to upgrade your ISY to use the latest devices from Insteon. The device signature listing is not in the last firmware release. The basic upgrade is $99.XX USD and you will need to use the AP regardless at some point even if you have a 2413S later on. As you need to couple / bridge both sides of the electrical feed.

1. If you wiped the SD card there is no OS to operate you will need to follow the Wiki to install it. http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Restarting_Your_ISY-99i 2. If you do not have a PLM you will follow the firmware update page and it tells you which one to use (without a PLM) this will allow you to connect to the device with out it going into safe mode which is why its crying and won't come up. http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/14926-release-4221-rc1-is-now-avaialble/ 3. If the Z-Wave card was never installed you have several steps to complete after you first complete step 1 / 2. You will need to go to purchase modules in this case the Z-Wave one and pay the $1.00 to activate the internal Z-Wave module program.

You meant they are next to the dual band PLM right? Also you must press the link (whirling arrows) then press the set button to one sensor at a time. This assumes you don't use the device ID method. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just as a data point I have five Venstar 1800 with humidity sensors in place. The ISY Console indicates they are 2441v, using adaptor(s) v.91 / v.92 I also see the schedule button and when pressed see a pop up message indicating: No Network Connection, DHCP state renew.

To be clear variables are great to track how long something has been on, running, off, etc. It is also a fantastic method to count an action / event. With the above a summary email can be sent out which really helps in seeing the big picture. Using the summary page to confirm an action / state is great if you're there. But it's impossible to do over long periods. Hence a tracking variable with reports. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hello HarryP, Would you please try changing your SMTP Port to one of the following: 465 / 587 You may also try to change your routers DNS to 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 Please report back success / failure.
