You can update directly from 4.0.5, to 4.2.18 with out issue. Ensure you make a back up, once the firmware has been completed. Clear the Java Console by selecting all the check box's. Afterwards, you will need to use the supplied links provided in the 4.2.18 thread. Using a older version of the finder or other will cause unknown issues to appear either in the Admin UI or programs. Please confirm success by selecting the Help -> *About* both the firmware and UI should report back as 4.2.18.

Hello Rick, It means the ISY was not able to either query the device, write is pending, or its actually not present any longer in the ISY. In the screen capture below you can see I have the famous red ! The Office Fan APLinc 7 is physically not plugged in. You will see a few TSTATS two of them are showing the red !. This is because they are turned off until called to duty to advise me of the humidity and temp. You will also see this issue if the device in question is failing in some manner. I have a few Appliance Lincs that seem to operate fine via the Admin UI. But, when you query the device it returns a !. On the surface many times this is a COM issue. But, in my case its not, its the actual device is failing some how.

Speaking of which no one has indicated what the price is for the PLM. I am also wondering how long the warranty is for this unit. Since purchasing the PLM from Smarthome offers a 2 year warranty. I would expect it to be the same or even longer given the fact new capacitors have been introduced to avoid the early two year failures seen by many. Expectations is that the new units with hardware v2.X and the new firmware to negate the *ALL ON* issue will last well past the two year mark.

I think you're in good shape moving forward. Please do document the install and take lots of photos. I am sure others will find this information valuable when doing the same. Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions

That would be the most effective solution while offering the best value for a zoned system. Question, is the current HVAC system as it is not able to keep the home comfortable? Or is this just a personal method to tailor the rooms environment on demand? Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions

You would only use the I/O link if you planned to use the factory transformer. Obviously, the I/O link would then be plugged into a outlet from there. Which HVAC duct are you planning to use NO vs NC? Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions

Well, I guess that is something the OP will need to share if he wants. This also assumes he is going to use a N.O vs a N.C HVAC duct. There may be some use cases like a infrequent room that is occupied that he wants to always be closed. Thus, when he feels the need he simply clicks the switch and opens the vent so he can enjoy the pool table, sun room, what ever, smoke a joint,

LeeG, For the benefit of others what is your guess as to why the device is sending two ON's? As I don't recall this device ever doing this before. Is your device fairly new? Do you have any older units to compare?

Right now it comes down to knowing what electrical power source is available and if there is local control. If there isn't and he is going to run wires any ways. The cheapest and most effective method is to install a KPL / Switch Linc, that will control a outlet, which is then controlling a plug in 24 VAC transformer. If the OP doesn't want to purchase anymore parts (plug in transformer) and just use what is included in the kit. Then the most reasonable choice would be a linked I/O Linc, which is attached the OEM transformer to control the HVAC duct. I have to assume he wants manual control over using a TSTAT.

Hello Gary, How about we keep this simple and perhaps a solution can be found. Before I offer anymore advise, how about you explain where you intend to install this device and what power, switches, and receptacles are present. 1. Is there a local switch present that can control the power to a outlet? If yes, then all you need is to plug in the transformer which will power the HVAC duct. 2. If the answer is no, there is not a switch that controls a outlet. You have several choices and that is to either use a appliance linc, dual outlet linc, I/O linc. The I/O linc is only being used to power the OEM transformer. Some would prefer to use a 24 VAC plugin transformer. 3. Is there a outlet where the HVAC duct is going to be? If you're going to be installing a brand new outlet because local power is not present. Again, you can use the first suggestion which is install a normal outlet, purchase a plug in 24 VAC transformer, and have the KPL / Switch Linc relay turn that outlet on or off. Please describe your environment and the power availability. Some Options based on your possible set up: 1. Switch controls outlet: All you need is either a Switch Linc / KPL Relay. 2. Switch does not control outlet: You can purchase a switch Linc / KPL Relay -> Install either a Dual outlet linc, On/Off Module, Micro On/Off Module, I/O Linc.

Hello Gary, My apologies I had assumed the switch was on another circuit from the outlet. If the outlet is controlled via the switch you have now. You can definitely forgo the other device. Please kindly note you must only use a Switch Linc Relay or KPL Relay.

First thing is to pull the logs from the ISY and forward them to UDI and create a new ticket and reference this thread. Next confirm both the firmware and UI both say 4.2.18 which you need to be on. Note SSL / TLS encryption has changed on the ISY and this may be one possible reason your ISY fails to send the mail. If you do forum search you will see lots of information as it pertains to the above. NOTE: Create a dedicated gmail account for the ISY and use this as the SMTP destination and report back success / failure. Please note you should try ports 587 & 465 and see if there is success / failures. Each time you select the test email please take a look at the error logs and compare it to the Wiki. This will help narrow down the root cause.

Yes, that is correct. If the devices are already in the scene you can certainly remove them and try again. This will restore any associations (scenes) that were supposed to be listed in the new PLM but we're not written when you replaced it. Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions

Because you need a method to turn the power on / off. You could also use the newest dual outlet Linc instead which avoids the wall wart look. Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions

No, the monthly cost is only required if you wish to use their remote connection services. 99% of the people don't use this service at all so save your money. Because you already lost one kidney today changing out the CFL's.

This is one of the filters for smaller loads: http://www.x10.com/xpnr-noise-reducer.html?___SID=UI will try to locate the larger ones for 10/20 amp loads. I use the Mobilinc App on the iPhone which provides remote operations, geo fencing, voice activation, etc

Hello Richard, I believe you're headed on the right path on replacing the CFL bulbs. I had to chuckle about selling a kidney or two! I believe a few of us have invested way more time, effort, and money to get this whole HA thing going. Rest assured, once the noise makers / signal suckers are found and isolated you will be in good shape. There are in fact inline filters that can be purchased. But, since you indicate the (probable) cause is the CFL light bulbs. Its just easier to replace them when finances allow. If the primary areas are taken care of just leave the other rooms until you can replace them. Keep in mind even if you decided to go the route of inline filtering it does not guarantee that it will solve the issue. As some line noise is just too strong to be circumvented by a filter. If you have flora lamps it can be from the ballasts and those can certainly be filtered out. If you hear any ALIENS, please pass along a message: Where is my ride? How come you're calling on so many people except me?

Hello Suler, Can you provide the exact model and specifications of this fire place?
-
I think you pretty much isolated the major offenders that are either sucking or causing noise on the power line. Before you go and spend a ton of money on LED bulbs please do review this site and that of the SH site for LED lights that have proven to work and not hinder the Insteon COM's. Simply replacing one area will tell you if the bulbs are fine or not. If they prove to work in (one area) move the exact same LED bulbs to another offender area. If the bulbs work fine and COM's are solid try it in the remaining areas. The reason you're doing this (silly) task is to confirm, verify, and know for a fact the bulbs is the cause & solution. If the bulbs works in 2 of the three areas but the third does not. You need to look at the fixture and really narrow down what is on that circuit etc. Please do report back your success / failures and I am sure we can get you up and running. Otherwise you and I will be smoking a big phatty for awhile till its solved!

Yes, if you're impacted by this problem engage them directly and they will RMA a new unit to you.

First thing I would do is verify your email account and log in and see if the user name / password is the same. Next I would ping the address stated above from your LAN and reply back what the results are. Next I would confirm that the ISY is not being blocked by any firewall / anti virus software. Verify that all required ports are open for the above. Lastly, create a dedicated gmail account for the ISY and report back success / failure. Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions

The first thing you need to do is confirm proper coupling / bridging via the 4 tap beacon test outlined by the full users manual. Once confirmed you can place any other AP / range extender where ever you wish. The AP does in fact repeat and regenerate the Insteon signal. Your next step is to isolate and determine all noise makers / signal suckers in the areas that have bad COM's. The easiest thing to do is to unplug all the devices and see. While all devices are unplugged monitor your Insteon network. Add one device back in and see if the COM's are solid or not. If solid keep adding one at a time while testing. If not solid filter the offending device or circuit load. Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions
