Before I offer anymore advise, how about you explain where you intend to install this device and what power, switches, and receptacles are present. 1. Is there a local switch present that can control the power to a outlet? If yes, then all you need is to plug in the transformer which will power the HVAC duct. 2. If the answer is no, there is not a switch that controls a outlet. You have several choices and that is to either use a appliance linc, dual outlet linc, I/O linc. The I/O linc is only being used to power the OEM transformer. Some would prefer to use a 24 VAC plugin transformer. 3. Is there a outlet where the HVAC duct is going to be? If you're going to be installing a brand new outlet because local power is not present. Again, you can use the first suggestion which is install a normal outlet, purchase a plug in 24 VAC transformer, and have the KPL / Switch Linc relay turn that outlet on or off. Please describe your environment and the power availability. Some Options based on your possible set up: 1. Switch controls outlet: All you need is either a Switch Linc / KPL Relay. 2. Switch does not control outlet: You can purchase a switch Linc / KPL Relay -> Install either a Dual outlet linc, On/Off Module, Micro On/Off Module, I/O Linc.

Hello Gary, My apologies I had assumed the switch was on another circuit from the outlet. If the outlet is controlled via the switch you have now. You can definitely forgo the other device. Please kindly note you must only use a Switch Linc Relay or KPL Relay.

First thing is to pull the logs from the ISY and forward them to UDI and create a new ticket and reference this thread. Next confirm both the firmware and UI both say 4.2.18 which you need to be on. Note SSL / TLS encryption has changed on the ISY and this may be one possible reason your ISY fails to send the mail. If you do forum search you will see lots of information as it pertains to the above. NOTE: Create a dedicated gmail account for the ISY and use this as the SMTP destination and report back success / failure. Please note you should try ports 587 & 465 and see if there is success / failures. Each time you select the test email please take a look at the error logs and compare it to the Wiki. Hello Richard, I believe you're headed on the right path on replacing the CFL bulbs. I had to chuckle about selling a kidney or two! I believe a few of us have invested way more time, effort, and money to get this whole HA thing going. Rest assured, once the noise makers / signal suckers are found and isolated you will be in good shape. There are in fact inline filters that can be purchased. But, since you indicate the (probable) cause is the CFL light bulbs. Its just easier to replace them when finances allow. If the primary areas are taken care of just leave the other rooms until you can replace them. Keep in mind even if you decided to go the route of inline filtering it does not guarantee that it will solve the issue. As some line noise is just too strong to be circumvented by a filter. If you have flora lamps it can be from the ballasts and those can certainly be filtered out. If you hear any ALIENS, please pass along a message: Where is my ride? I think you pretty much isolated the major offenders that are either sucking or causing noise on the power line. Before you go and spend a ton of money on LED bulbs please do review this site and that of the SH site for LED lights that have proven to work and not hinder the Insteon COM's. Simply replacing one area will tell you if the bulbs are fine or not. If they prove to work in (one area) move the exact same LED bulbs to another offender area. If the bulbs work fine and COM's are solid try it in the remaining areas. The reason you're doing this (silly) task is to confirm, verify, and know for a fact the bulbs is the cause & solution. If the bulbs works in 2 of the three areas but the third does not. You need to look at the fixture and really narrow down what is on that circuit etc. Please do report back your success / failures and I am sure we can get you up and running. Otherwise you and I will be smoking a big phatty for awhile till its solved!

The first thing you need to do is confirm proper coupling / bridging via the 4 tap beacon test outlined by the full users manual. Once confirmed you can place any other AP / range extender where ever you wish. The AP does in fact repeat and regenerate the Insteon signal. Your next step is to isolate and determine all noise makers / signal suckers in the areas that have bad COM's. The easiest thing to do is to unplug all the devices and see. While all devices are unplugged monitor your Insteon network. Add one device back in and see if the COM's are solid or not. If solid keep adding one at a time while testing. No, you do not have to replace all of your Insteon devices. What LeeG was trying to relay was that all (natively) they all have a similar PLM chip set. If you just installed a new PLM you should have followed the replacement steps outlined in the Wiki.

I would probably ship back the one's under warranty and see what happens. If you see the same thing with the new replacements its safe to say there is a power issue. For this very reason I am extremely keen on monitoring the power quality that comes into my home. Along with having systems in place to off set any potential surge / sags in line voltage from the POCO. I currently have four different systems that monitor the line voltage and frequency to the home. For me this is more a hobby as I used to be in a similar field where monitoring the line voltage was critical to the end components that I managed.
