Agreed, the ISY Series Controller offers the best of both worlds. You're not held hostage for a product you think you own. When in fact all your doing is renting / leasing a product. There are too many examples where small to large companies went under, abandoned a service, to starting to charge for so called premium features! [emoji35] All of the above doesn't even begin to address the security & safety aspects of having a cloud first appliance in your home!! I can state with a high level of confidence those using such *Cloud First* controllers in Texas, Florida, PR, are not having much success.

The 2412S PLM was single band and powered the ISY Series Controller directly. You had a good run its time to replace it with a dual band 2413S PLM. While you await for the new hardware you may consider doing the capacitor repair listed in this forum. PLM Repair Thread: http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/13866-repair-of-2413s-plm-when-the-power-supply-fails/

Information Only: The Hub II supports Stringify vs IFTTT. The Hub II also requires 100% Internet connection and is reliant on the cloud. The ISY Series Controller is not but allows the ability to integrate and connect to many cloud portal services / hardware. The ISY Series Controller only supports one plugin module either Z-Wave vs ZigBee. ZigBee is dedicated only to the energy monitoring / energy management of the system via POCO or third party energy monitors from Brultech.

This was primarily driven by the best selling smart bulb *Phillips* which uses ZigBee. People have to be realistic none of these companies go into this saying lets support the most used protocol. Insteon was never on anyone's radar . . .
-
I was reviewing the specs and it appears ZigBee is the HA protocol of choice in the new Echo Plus. I am truly not a fan of ZigBee given its mish mash of standards. Never mind the dollar store look and feel of some of the products that use said protocol. I was happy to see all of the new products now incorporate a 3.5 mm output jack. The smaller (cheaper) version of Echo seems to be a knee jerk reaction to Googles Home and Apples what ever its called. The colored buttons are a clone of other products already on the market and the *Lets play games* concept is so gay. What they should have done is made it similar to that failed Kickstarter product called Dot. Which of course was changed to be called something else due to trade mark violations. If they came out with small form factor multi-colored button that offered similar attributes it would be a huge game changer. For now I personally don't see any value in this huge honking toy button.

But does yours say not found at the top header with multiple ISY / IP Addresses?
-
Well, if this is simply because I have more than one ISY Series Controller in the finder. That's fine as I don't want the system to auto load the Admin Console. As I want to have the ability to select which of the four controllers to access. If its found this isn't going to impact the controllers at all I'll move on. I honestly don't recall it every saying not found before and I had multiple controller listed before too.
-
Not sure when this started happening but its safe to say it hasn't always been like this. As seen in the image capture the system indicates it can't find the ISY Series Controller(s). When in fact all of them are clearly listed in the menu below which I haven't included here. What is the root cause of this and do I need to worry about it impacting the system in the long run?
-
Can you offer some photo's of the final solution in place. As I am sure this will help those so interested in the future. I would probably do a *How To* in a new thread and link back to this one so it can be easily found. Please also include a few descriptive tags in the heading of the new thread so its easier to find in the search box.

To the OP one thing I would humbly suggest is you purchase the network module separately. The ISY Portal includes the network module but is tied to the subscription. Going my way should you ever decide to not renew your subscription you would still have the power of the native network module in the controller. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would personally not count on the battery lasting 10 years per Smarthomes advert. There have been a few instances where users have seen batches of Leak Sensors and Open ~ Close sensors come with stale batteries. If one assumes the batteries are still good because they tested them with a DMM. The next two things are to consider if the device is in range of the next dual band RF device. Lastly, the most common thing to impact a lack of heart beat status is interference in the home. Last month I was field testing one of 15 weather alert radio's I have on hand for a long term project. I had this weather radio plugged into my island outlet ~ approx 24 hours later I received a (2) on the heart beat alert and Julie U.S. informed me of the same over the PA system. At the time I thought it was the rechargeable batteries I've been field testing vs using endless primary cells for the Open ~ Close sensors. I measured the voltage on the rechargeable batteries and they were fine but decided to change them anyways. Another 24 hours had elapsed and the missed heart beat value of (2) remained?? I monitored this condition for another week because I was really curious to know what it my home was causing this failure. As soon as I unplugged the transformer from the island outlet a few hours later that same Open ~ Close sensor reported in fine. In the kitchen there is no less than six Insteon dual band switches from KPL's to Switches. Yet none of this mattered because the electrical system was contaminated by this weather radio transformer. As a old school field test I could hear the interference being generated by another weather radio I had in place. The amount of RF static interference was extremely high and was also confirmed by my SWR meter. Bottom line don't assume nothing has changed when the reality is electronics age and thus can inject random noise into the home. Also, keep in mind unless you're like me most people don't have a set pattern in terms of what and where they use their electronics. If you have kids it makes tracking down random events even harder because kids will be doing X vs Y all the time at different intervals.

I honestly don't understand why Amazon even cares what phrase is being used. They have proven just in this thread the so called *Reserved Phrases* can and will be used. Regardless, automating the largest door in your home never mind a smart lock via voice control is a disaster waiting to happen. Along with making no sense from a true security stand point where safety is the primary driver vs convenience. This is especially important when the end user has no direct method to confirm its safe to do so. There has been lots of talk about extra measures like using cameras, sensors, what ever in other threads. That doesn't supersede the need to use common sense and reflect upon the consequences of doing so. I can safely state with a high level of confidence the first time you crush something. You better pray its not a living thing because it will haunt you forever . . .

Understood, in the big scheme of things does it really matter to the general public? No . . . What should matter is the company is in good standing to keep moving forward to offer the best in class home automation products a consumer wants and needs. That involves using the best quality components, engaging 3rd party vendors to take on and integrate with their wares. Lastly, start engaging the general public as they did in the past which UDI, Brultech, Weather Flow, and many more do.
-
If people are generalizing then yes. But, if you're looking for accuracy Smarthome is not Insteon they are the retail portion of the Smartlabs entity.
-
Just to be more accurate regarding Smarthome and their relations with Insteon. Smarthome was and has been the retail arm for more than 20 years. At some point Joe Dada created Smartlabs which is the parent company which develops Insteon products. Until recently both companies were owned and operated by Joe Dadda which has been sold to a 3rd party venture capitalist. Regardless, Smartlabs needs to push forward in all key areas of: Global Adoption, Security, API Documentation, User Engagement, and R&D.
-
This is caused by what exactly? What is the solution to correct it from happening in the future? The only method I found was to hard reboot the controller and wait for the system to be in a ready state.
-
In the middle of creating a slew of NR's for the controller when I was presented with a pop up message. Which was near impossible to see until I fooled around with tabbing and alternating Window views. After I was finally able to see the error to my surprise it was for something to do with a license agreement?!? Why is this license agreement message coming up? This controller is running the latest 4.6.2 release and has been my ZigBee production box for years. Anyone?

At a high level there are two kinds of Insteon devices in the wild now which Smartlabs in their standard fair offers zero feedback on. From my personal observations the latest hardware that has firmware to allow independent selection appears to operate almost like a RF only device when enabled. Off the top of my head of products which support user selectable RF vs Power Line are: Dual relay outlet, Plugin On-Off Relay, DIN Relay, and I'm guessing here because its been a long time since this topic came up. The Insteon ballast module . . . A person will note none of these features are indicated in any fulls users manuals?!?! So what does that have to do with my initial statement of *Two Kinds* of Insteon hardware? Well, as far as I can tell if the hardware and software doesn't support the option to select RF vs Power Line the two are tied together in relations to operations.
-
I wouldn't say there aren't options quite the contrary there are lots of options from dozens of vendors who support X-10, Insteon, Z-Wave, ZigBee, WiFi, BLE. From a consumer stand point if someone was to ask me right this moment as to what I would purchase for a new HA System. My question would be *Is this for the long term or is this just another fad* ?!? There hasn't been a time in our history where there are more fly by night & fad products. The other problem I see is the lack of forethought or taking the time to do just the most basic research into HA. For me its not so much who's the cheapest vs who's the most expensive system out there. Its a combination of who has been around for a long time and has a proven track record of offering new products that meet the needs of the end user(s). Next, is how well supported this hardware is in terms of integrating with my eco-system. I believe its safe to say the ISY Series Controller is the virtual glue that binds all of this together. Which highlights the fact and importance that having a solid and scale-able controller is of prime importance if Home Automation is the primary goal(s). There are too many *Look at me* controllers from Wink, Smartthings, to that POS product called Revolv which Google bought out. Everyday there seems another box store is coming out with their vary own Hub or eco system to enter the fray. Think Staples Fail: https://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/staples-connect-discontinued/ Think Revolv Fail: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/apr/05/revolv-devices-bricked-google-nest-smart-home Think Wink Fail: https://www.gearbrain.com/home-depot-wink-pros-and-cons-1622025036.html Think Ikea: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/3/27/15071562/ikea-tradfri-smart-lights-gateway-ethernet-cheap-dimmer-remote As of this writing there are several controllers which garner the most attention even though they are the worst. This high lights the very people buying said controllers have no freaking clue and did so because it was a fad and didn't look deeper. Who are these fad products which offer a half aszz'd experience? Think: Apple Home Kit, Wink, Smartthings, Wemo . . . The next crop of controllers offers more capability and has the backing of dozens of of 3rd party developers: Vera, Home Seer We haven't even talked about the dozen or so software only platforms which can be installed into any PC. Regardless of all of the above the biggest problem is the reliance on having a constant Internet cloud connection. If that isn't a complete and utter fail I don't know what is . . . To think people honestly think its OK to literally *Lease* a product they bought and own and have no control over the security or privacy of said controller?!?! One only needs to look at the people who live in Texas / Florida where there is no power or infrastructure like Internet. I guess all of these fools are really enjoying their *Cloud Only Hub Controller* now!!! Absent of a controller a Home Automation system should just work in a stand alone mode like any other switch in the home, period. There are too many silly and foolish people who have pushed the envelope of stupidity and removed local wiring and placed it at the fixtures / loads or ran them to a central location. Wrong, Stupid, Have you lost your mind concept, is what any sane person would say . . . The one area where Insteon needs to do better is updating their hardware to support true encryption as did the Z-Wave camp. Even with such a update this isn't the silver bullet to a secure HA network.
-
Having been involved in HA for more than 15 years and industrial production systems ranging from safety, security, and networking. I find the KISS principle being ignored and not applied in something that is obviously mission critical. The adage one is none, two is one is a mantra I and many others live by. I would encourage the OP to reconsider how the leak sensors are deployed and integrated with this home automation system. In my world routine validation, testing, and follow up is key. When life and safety along with mission critical systems are at play home automation isn't in the picture for me. I think it's important to get back to the basics and evaluate if the potential threats are indeed real vs the want / need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In my view having one unified protocol ensures tight integration in the home. While integrating a dual Insteon / Z-Wave protocol network offers more choices and hedges your bet on that investment over time. The obvious advantage is your eggs aren't all in one basket. I've blogged about all the pros and cons of each protocol here and in many other forums. While Smartlabs hasn't extended their reach to include more third party hardware vendors. I can say they have continued to release one new piece of hardware almost each year. That can't be said for many of the Z-Wave camp. Many of the start up Z-Wave companies have already left and abandoned their wares which leaves the general public in a bind. One of the key things I can't stand from the various Z-Wave / ZigBee makers is the dollar store look and feel of their products. Regardless, the new guy who owns Smartlabs / Insteon has the opportunity to make Insteon a force to be reckon with. At this very moment their development team is in the toilet and those in the new role aren't showing me or others they have changed anything or learned from the past. If the outsourcing to India is any indicator of things to come. Sadly, the new guy has no freaking clue what he is doing besides acting like any other bean counter. [emoji35] Some of the greatest concepts and ideas have been killed off because management were out of touch with reality and what the general public wanted. Added to the fact they failed to capitalize on the strengths of the product / ideas. ☹️ I'll give the new guy more rope for 12 months. Just enough time for him to hang himself with it!!
