  1. I believe your going to receive a PM from me in the future regarding this template. Once again thank you so very much for taking the time to offer your hands on experience and effort in making this project so Plug & Play. Is it safe to say if someone aligns the plastic template on the laser printer it will be pretty much centered?
  2. I believe using some of these services / apps to auto generate a complex password is fine. But I have to agree letting a 3rd party vendor have direct knowledge, access, and store those very same passwords in the cloud is simply asking for trouble. The closest thing I use to something like this is from a Swedish company which is known to protect the user data to the Nth degree. I would never trust any other country which has a Government bent on spying and breaching every privacy right known to man. You want complete protection regarding passwords keep it in your head. You want something close for complex passwords and documents call upon the Swiss!
  3. I suppose just being a lowly average guy the sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, is up to me. I know of 400 ways to spend that kind of money and it clearly wouldn't be for a maid, house cleaner, auto bot. I know lots of this comes down to time vs money for some but vacuuming actually relax's me plus I enjoy seeing the cross cut hatch on the carpet when I am done. Too bad it lasts only as long as the family are gone from the home . . .
  4. Basic Level: You can have multiple controllers so long as each controller only has direct linking & integration with those specific Insteon pieces of hardware. I do this already on several *Mini* networks in the home for proof of concept, testing, and long term validation of projects on the go. Advanced Level: Some have talked about using the Network Module, Node Server, Polyglot to enable two way hardware status awareness of two controllers in the home. As of this writing I have never read of one single person actually doing this in a production environment. This is the next step for me assuming the details are fleshed out and it actually works besides on paper. UDI PLM: As of this writing there has been no updates as to the current status of the UDI developed global PLM. Past threads in this forum indicated the company was waiting for Smartlabs to finalize sale of the required PLM chips. Along with enabling the UDI company the ability to flash the hardware with new firmware should it ever be required. It has been almost two years since this endeavor has been discussed along with the company actually having working prototypes. Which UDI notes actually works and is simply waiting for the two specific areas to be agreed upon. Should you feel compelled to make you voice heard please take the time to sign up and like this post: http://forum.insteon.com/forum/main-category/new-insteon-device-wish-list/8221-plm-pro This was my last reply in that specific thread:
  5. $400.xx ?!? - Just Wow . . .
  6. That's one of many benefits of living in one of the greatest nations in the free world!
  7. The original question was more pertaining to the ISY Series Controller then the portal. But thanks for the heads up on the minimum password length. I thought it was kind of funny Chris's reply notes the user name can be one character?!? Even though having been forced to use extremely complex passwords for my entire life. I do have to say having the option to use what ever you wish is most welcomed. Because when you're using more than 12 characters everyday it gets old real quick especially if you need to enter it over and over again! The only more annoying thing is having to wait for a smart card to change values and enter the very same into a sms message and wait for another set of keys! That's super annoying . . .
  8. Hello Mango, Just start a new thread in the Questions and Answers and just reference this thread for a high level over view.
  9. How old is the PLM and what does the white sticker say on the back along with the firmware? Have you completed a PLM table compare to see how many links you have? Do you have a large insteon network with lots of scenes?
  10. Must be nice having those week end deliveries - I can't say this is something we here in Canada are used to seeing. I may have seen a few Fed-Ex, UPS, Purolator, from time to time for businesses. But rarely have I seen week end deliveries for consumer goods. Even though I noticed on the Canada Post web site week end delivery is available? In all my years I have never received a single package from Canada Post on the week ends not even to the community mail box!
  11. Just to clarify have you used both options to add the leak sensor? One is with the auto the other is using the two whirling arrows and you press on the set button of the device. If you haven't tried the other please do so and also reboot the ISY before you add, delete, etc.
  12. I only asked because what I quoted from you made it sound like using the admin console did make it work even though it didn't make a click. If both units are indeed dead I would be considering more SPD's besides the one on the main panel. As I have blogged about for years a layered approach from meter, panel, to load is the only thing that will offer a measure of protection. Finding two exact units giving up the ghost is the results of a electrical event whether it be a surge vs sag.
  13. Your going to have to help me here a little - When you select the I/O Linc of choice via the Admin Console does the hardware actually make the relay inside go *Click*? The fact the Admin Console displays a on / off doesn't mean anything because the system just assumes it worked. We all know this whole shoot and go isn't to be relied upon for confirmation.
  14. What is the ISY Firmware and UI displayed under the Help tab?
  15. In the past a v.00 was normal because the older ISY Series Controller firmware didn't support firmware ID's. This didn't impact the devices from operating correctly though. Fast forward 2017 the sensor(s) should indicate the firmware version in use. In rare cases the device may not properly represent the nodes or features it offers. Best effort should be to delete the sensor, hard reset it, then add it back using the auto configure option.
  16. Any product that doesn't incorporate suction, beat, sweep, would probably be very poor in what many consider a basic job of a vacuum cleaner. What shocks me more then anything in this space is why no one hasn't come out with a sub $150.XX unit. Every unit I have seen exceeds $220.XX Canadian before tax.
  17. Hello Chris, As always thank you . . .
  18. So does this mean the Roomba does indeed suck, beat, and sweep?
  19. Hello All, With 5.XX fast approaching Beta trials this new year I wanted to get my system ready for the transition. It has been noted many times from long time members and new. That transitioning from 4.XX to 5.XX required many jumping jacks due to a improper password length / password complexity requirement. My ask is what is the minimum password length and complexity in force for 5.XX? Also, please let me know what the maximum password length is along with what special characters are considered forbidden for use. As some computer systems will not allow the following special characters: @$#%^&*':> etc. Thank You!
  20. The link table capacity hasn't changed in over five years so who knows what may come down the pipe in 2017. As an aside I do recall the older 2412S PLM did in fact support more links than the 2413S PLM. The major down side is the 2412S PLM was single band and powered the ISY Series Controller directly.
  21. Really? So *Vacuum* cleaner isn't the correct phrase vs beat and sweep.
  22. All I know is back in the day on 20/20 they had a expose about what could happen to someone who stuck their arm in while the tub was going Mach 2. The story I referenced about the child losing the arm is what I recall . . . One can only imagine seeing a little childs arm dangling from the skin. All I can say is when growing up there wasn't many things my parents or I would do which resulted in a punch in the head. You never crawled under a vehicle on the lifts / jack stands, you never fooled around with the washer / dryer, you never stuck anything in the outlets, and you sure as sh^t didn't ever start a fire burning what ever you thought was cool in the fire place. The only thing I did different with my daughter was to ensure the piston nailers, 22 cal concrete, and chargers were always locked up and fully unloaded and kept separately from one another. I never wanted to come home to find out my daughter shot someone in the head with the concrete hole gun, etc.
  23. Rob, Generally, how long does the little robot operate for doing the first floor? Like an hour, two, three? How long does it take to recharge and then return to complete its task?
  24. I would have no problem checking the safety on a top loading machine. But, can't say I have ever been tempted to try the very same on a front loading washer as water is slushing around the main door. From a purely mechanical stand point a drum which rotates horizontally poses less risk vs one that is vertical in my mind. Then again I find it extremely odd any of these Samsung top loading washers don't have some kind of out of balance detector?!? If they do the manufacture defect must include that sensor because I can't see how so many incidents happen if the sensor was fully operational. Lastly, I would never count on the door ajar / open sensor to protect someone from losing an arm. One only needs to Google how many people literally had their arm ripped off because that specific sensor didn't operate. I don't know how many actual washers have a speed break when the top door is opened - opposed to it just *Trying* to slow down upon detecting a door ajar condition.
  25. I don't know what Samsung intends to do with Alexa but the first idea would be to tell the robot to go clean a specific room, area, zone? Correct me if I am wrong none of these vacuum robots actually know or can be told to just clean one room, correct? I would see value in being able to tell the robot to clean only from this time to this time and for this area only. I don't believe any of these robots can accomplish this goal. Yes / No?
