  1. After reading the link offered by Stu it appears to be on the surface lots of gimmicks with really no value. Considering the article was pretty light on the specifics of what it actually does. For those manufactures lurking in this forum or so happen to stumble upon this forum posts here goes. If you're going to offer a so called *Smart Appliance* how about you offer the most basic elements one would expect first! In no specific order of importance here are what I consider basic to advanced notification and use cases. - Offer two way notification via sms, email, and Alexa of the appliance being turned on, off, and cycle complete. - Notify and remind the user to clean the lint trap / water filter. - Warn the user of any out of band tolerances of the unit *think* exploding Samsung washer! - POST: The system should always perform a diagnostic tests of the major components and report back. - Counters: The system should be able to let you know how many hours, minutes, days, weeks, years, the appliance has been running for since initial turn on. - Energy: The system should be able to tell the person how much water and energy was consumed for any modes selected and what the costs are based on the persons local KWH rate(s). To allow a person to save on energy consumption etc. - Warranty / Service: The system should be able to notify the owner of how many days, weeks, months, years left in the warranty period. To offer to extend said warranty should it be desired and schedule maintenance of said appliance. None of what I have suggested is magic or is hard to do - It only needs someone with vision and the will to offer something truly useful and beneficial to the world as a whole. Some of the elements I already track and know in my own home now so for me there isn't much benefit in any of this but its a nice step if done right. I know how long the washer / dryer has been running for, how many cycles, water and energy consumption, peak current, low, mid, high wattage of any cycle selected. My system informs me via sms, email, and voice announcements of when the appliance is turned on, off, and when the cycle is completed. It monitors out of band energy and temperature levels to let me know if something is amiss. What I don't know is (IF) in a general sense if the appliance is in spec and feeling well - that would be a nice to have.
  2. As noted up above there is a direct competitor to the Roomba which I can't recall what its called. Anyways lots of people have indicated it offers more sucking and beating power than the Roomba. I believe a few people here have tried to integrate it into the ISY too. The only value I see with these gimmick toys is if someone has restricted movement / disabilities. I could see this being a possible solution but it just has to work to start with.
  3. Based on the list this defect only impacts top loading washers . . . All joking aside I hope you never have to experience something like this because its not funny. I can't imagine someone having their jaw broken because a common appliance was designed so poorly that it can in fact cause bodily harm.
  4. Yes, pressing the black set button should make the relay open and close. I audible click should be heard if its operating correctly. Its incredible bad luck two exact same devices just failed though. But then again I just saw five different devices in my home just take a complete dump. None of them are related to Insteon or anything but it does bring to the for front of why having so many electronic *things* is a recipe for disaster / long term costs. I plan on blogging about all the failures I have seen in my other install thread as some of the failures really pissed me off!
  5. Hello Fred, Just a quick over view for you as I don't have a lot of time to reply. - If you own the Network Module you can pretty much do all the same things the portal does. The ISY Portal is intended primarily as a Plug & Play service. The ease of use and ability to integrate with two of the most asked for services / products is why it was created. - The $49.XX two year subscription fee is to offset the on going costs of the cloud hosted service. Which also includes the Network module but I always suggest a person actually purchase and own the add on. - The ISY Portal will over time support more hardware / services that are currently in the works: Honeywell THC, Push Bullet, etc - The Network Module you have is yours to own forever. - The ISY Portal offers remote access, no port forwarding, multi login, multi controller management, etc
  6. If you watch the end of this video its stated that Samsung offers a bracing kit which the consumer can purchase? If that isn't a real WTF I don't know what is. Even better they will offer you a little discount to buy yet another Samsung washer that more than likely has some unknown fault. I have to shake my head in disbelief this company which has seen some of the largest recalls in Electronic history believes a person who bought a defective unit should be on the hook for a new washer? http://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/samsung-recalling-almost-2-8m-washers-due-impact-injuries-n677891
  7. Hard reset one of the I/O Lincs and complete a restore and report back what happens. The very fact the relay doesn't activate leads to a lock up or bad unit. Hard resetting and software restore is free - just cost some time . . .
  8. LOL . . . Even though this specific area of home maintenance doesn't interest me. I do feel this space is well served with more competition as the current crop of hardware is not only extremely expansive but offers below average *Real World* cleaning. I have a few friends which own various generations of the Roomba and the other direct competitor of it. Which for the life of me can't recall what its called? Anyways, like many of these fad products all of them literally sit idle doing nothing. I would really like to see energy monitoring / energy management become the new *Sexy* in terms of fads though. Given the current pace in this space I am doubtful 2017 will usher in anything more interesting or meaningful to the general public.
  9. The real question is, how many people here are seriously interested in buying this device?
  10. I have personally created a separate folder in the programs tab which includes all of the various battery operated devices in my home. I did this as Stu mentioned this allows me to manage and decide when this process should be invoked to reduce battery consumption. You also don't want to be walking around your house wondering why the MS is always flashing. This feature when invoked will (to the lay person) mimic what a bad comm LED flash would look like. Meaning if you had it turned on and every time the MS saw movement it will flash the LED several times. A lay person would be wondering what is happening or assume incorrectly there is an error / comm issue present. Obviously, if the MS is flashing the LED all the time this impacts long term service life. Clear as mud?
  11. In my view there are at least two reasons to use this feature. - Replacement of the 2413S PLM - Changes to scene membership As noted up above (IF) a device supports and has a *Heart Beat* node this channel can be used as a means of updating a remote device in the home. The only down side to using the heart beat node is this assumes the persons Insteon RF to Power line mesh is strong through out the entire home. Lastly, the end user obviously needs to wait for the 24 heart beat to happen before any pending writes will happen. In my eyes this is just another great way to complete the same physical task. Speaking only for myself having not to scale a 25 foot ladder in -45'C with howling winds is a major plus or where a piece of hardware is located in a restricted area. Make sense? NOTE: The HDS does indeed offer options from voltage, heart beat, to dual modes etc.
  12. No worries, I simply noted the other members question wasn't fully answered and wanted to offer that insight. Like many here I learn by doing and often times finding a image capture relays the information much better than plain writings. As I recall in school for *Health Class* it was expressed to me the vast population (90%) have what they call *Physical Brains* vs *Spacial Brains* Physical brains are those who learn by doing using their hands and completing repetitive tasks etc. Spacial brains which accounts for 10% of the population are able to simply read, see, hear, information and retain and apply said information with out the need to do - said tasks. As such I too am a physical brain and must see, do, practice what I read, hear, and see. Thus, I always try to offer as much written detail and complement my replies with images in hopes of relaying the very same for all brains to see and use! I would not take any offence by the previous posters as much is offered in gist. You will quickly find some of the members have zero sense of humor while others have a really odd sense of humor. I on the other hand have a great sense of humor but freely admit I sometimes fail to use the appropriate emoticon to relay my over all inflection / tone. Happy New Years!

I would suggest you submit a technical support request using this link: http://www.universal-devices.com/contact-support/ Please ensure you reference this forum post so the support staff can mark this off once completed. If you could circle back with the forum members as to root cause and end solve once complete that would be appreciated. As an aside the portal is up and running for my controller and the Echo continues to operate just fine. I only mention this part to let you know the portal is in fact on line and operating.
  14. Teken replied to nathagt's topic in UD Portal
    1. Are you seeing this off line in the Admin Console? 2. Does the ISY appear as a device in the ISY Portal? 3. Have you unplugged the Echo and waited 10 seconds and reapplied power to the unit? Once done have you rebooted the ISY Series Controller?
  15. Correct, the ISY Series Controller requires the 2413S PLM to offer both X-10 and Insteon on the power line. As of this writing there continues to be early failures of the 2413S PLM with hardware 2.0, 2.1, 2.2. With respect to the HUB Controller there doesn't seem to be very many *Publicly* reported failures in the open forums whether that be on the SH, UDI, Insteon forums. Then again most of the HUB's have been sold off on EBAY or similar after finding out how limited the controller is. If you're in North America your best solution at the moment is to use the 2413S PLM. In the past UDI was intending to release their very own PLM using higher grade components which also supports world wide voltage and frequency. As of this writing there is no mention as to where this project lies or if it will ever be allowed to be released. It was noted in many past forum threads the development and future sale of this UDI made PLM was hinging upon Smartlabs selling the PLM chips and allowing the company to flash the PLM firmware should it ever be required. Both of these were sticking points which I have to gather is still what holds the release of said product.
  16. Unfortunately, my paint scheme and decor would not blend too well with either TSTAT color besides the boring white.
  17. What exactly was the intended goal here may I ask? I ask because the ISY Series Controller supports natively X-10, and Insteon. If you purchase the upgrade hardware it will either support Z-Wave / ZigBee. It should be noted House Linc 2 Software only works on the older HUB v1 / v2 and doesn't work on the HUB II nor does it support X-10 any longer.
  18. Good to hear! BWT: I am sure auto spell / auto correct made it *Taken* instead of Teken . . . As I have not taken anything from you but offered insight. LOL . . .

With out more detail regarding this Frontier mail service I would suggest you create a dedicated GMAIL account. Using the WiKi entry I provided up above you can see if the controller allows normal mail flow. The benefit of using a dedicated email address from GMAIL is that its only function is to provide you notifications from the ISY Series Controller and nothing more. You will never have to worry about filtering out *Normal Mail* vs email dedicated to the home automation system. Obviously this doesn't address your Frontier issue at the moment. My reply is solely from the point of view to help you achieve a 100% up time for mail delivery while you continue to trouble shoot the Frontier SMTP mail issue(s). Happy New Years!
  20. I don't believe anyone answered your specific question so the following reply attempts to offer that insight. - The delay battery write is only available if you have a Pro controller. Which you can always upgrade a none pro to a pro simply by purchasing the upgrade. This feature has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I have included a image capture so you know what is being discussed and called out. - Write Device Update: This feature is found in the *Programs* tab. You need only create a new program and select the *Write Device Update* in the (THEN) program line. I have appended a image capture which offers a little more insight for those devices which use a *Heart Beat*. High lighted in green is the (IF) program line. You will notice I included both On-Off heart beat states because older hardware actually sent a OFF instead of a ON heart beat signal every 24 hours. This behavior may be seen in the HDS, Open-Close sensors . . . High lighted in Purple as noted up above if you decide to use the write device update feature you may need to play with the wait command which is directly related to the firmware in place for the hardware in use. A wait of 0-3 seconds has been noted as offering the most success. YMMV so play with it . . . Lastly, high lighted in Red is where you will find the Write Device Update under the THEN program section. Lastly, this feature does not work on all Insteon hardware depending upon manufacture date and firmware on board.
  21. It should be noted the users will see varied success using the *Write Device* Update feature. It depends upon the hardware & firmware in place a user has. A wait from 0-3 seconds is (typical) to be seen and used on various battery operated devices. The write device update does not work on all battery operated devices like older Remote Lincs, Remote Linc 2. Lastly, if the battery operated device has a *Heart Beat* node you can use this as the (IF) condition for the following hardware: Leak Sensor, Hidden Door Sensor, Open-Close Sensor.
  22. Teken replied to TheWabit's topic in ISY994
Besides the physical hardware install you still need to purchase the $1.00 Z-Wave activation module via the Admin Console.
  23. Is the TSTAT actually black in color as noted in the EBAY Advert?
  24. Hello Mario, As you noted in your reply you can only place a *Wait* in programs but not if the devices are directly linked to other hardware devices. You may want to review this WiKi entry and see if there are any steps you can include into your Insteon network: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=INSTEON_Random_All_On_Events
