The real question is, how many people here are seriously interested in buying this device?

I have personally created a separate folder in the programs tab which includes all of the various battery operated devices in my home. I did this as Stu mentioned this allows me to manage and decide when this process should be invoked to reduce battery consumption. You also don't want to be walking around your house wondering why the MS is always flashing. This feature when invoked will (to the lay person) mimic what a bad comm LED flash would look like. Meaning if you had it turned on and every time the MS saw movement it will flash the LED several times. A lay person would be wondering what is happening or assume incorrectly there is an error / comm issue present. Obviously, if the MS is flashing the LED all the time this impacts long term service life. Clear as mud?

In my view there are at least two reasons to use this feature. - Replacement of the 2413S PLM - Changes to scene membership As noted up above (IF) a device supports and has a *Heart Beat* node this channel can be used as a means of updating a remote device in the home. The only down side to using the heart beat node is this assumes the persons Insteon RF to Power line mesh is strong through out the entire home. Lastly, the end user obviously needs to wait for the 24 heart beat to happen before any pending writes will happen. In my eyes this is just another great way to complete the same physical task. Speaking only for myself having not to scale a 25 foot ladder in -45'C with howling winds is a major plus or where a piece of hardware is located in a restricted area. Make sense? NOTE: The HDS does indeed offer options from voltage, heart beat, to dual modes etc.

No worries, I simply noted the other members question wasn't fully answered and wanted to offer that insight. Like many here I learn by doing and often times finding a image capture relays the information much better than plain writings. As I recall in school for *Health Class* it was expressed to me the vast population (90%) have what they call *Physical Brains* vs *Spacial Brains* Physical brains are those who learn by doing using their hands and completing repetitive tasks etc. Spacial brains which accounts for 10% of the population are able to simply read, see, hear, information and retain and apply said information with out the need to do - said tasks. As such I too am a physical brain and must see, do, practice what I read, hear, and see. Thus, I always try to offer as much written detail and complement my replies with images in hopes of relaying the very same for all brains to see and use! I would not take any offence by the previous posters as much is offered in gist. You will quickly find some of the members have zero sense of humor while others have a really odd sense of humor. If you could circle back with the forum members as to root cause and end solve once complete that would be appreciated. As an aside the portal is up and running for my controller and the Echo continues to operate just fine. I only mention this part to let you know the portal is in fact on line and operating.

1. Are you seeing this off line in the Admin Console? 2. Does the ISY appear as a device in the ISY Portal? 3. Have you unplugged the Echo and waited 10 seconds and reapplied power to the unit? Once done have you rebooted the ISY Series Controller?

Correct, the ISY Series Controller requires the 2413S PLM to offer both X-10 and Insteon on the power line. As of this writing there continues to be early failures of the 2413S PLM with hardware 2.0, 2.1, 2.2. With respect to the HUB Controller there doesn't seem to be very many *Publicly* reported failures in the open forums whether that be on the SH, UDI, Insteon forums. Then again most of the HUB's have been sold off on EBAY or similar after finding out how limited the controller is. If you're in North America your best solution at the moment is to use the 2413S PLM. In the past UDI was intending to release their very own PLM using higher grade components which also supports world wide voltage and frequency. As of this writing there is no mention as to where this project lies or if it will ever be allowed to be released. It was noted in many past forum threads the development and future sale of this UDI made PLM was hinging upon Smartlabs selling the PLM chips and allowing the company to flash the PLM firmware should it ever be required. Both of these were sticking points which I have to gather is still what holds the release of said product.

Unfortunately, my paint scheme and decor would not blend too well with either TSTAT color besides the boring white.

What exactly was the intended goal here may I ask? I ask because the ISY Series Controller supports natively X-10, and Insteon. If you purchase the upgrade hardware it will either support Z-Wave / ZigBee. It should be noted House Linc 2 Software only works on the older HUB v1 / v2 and doesn't work on the HUB II nor does it support X-10 any longer.

With out more detail regarding this Frontier mail service I would suggest you create a dedicated GMAIL account. Using the WiKi entry I provided up above you can see if the controller allows normal mail flow. The benefit of using a dedicated email address from GMAIL is that its only function is to provide you notifications from the ISY Series Controller and nothing more. You will never have to worry about filtering out *Normal Mail* vs email dedicated to the home automation system. Obviously this doesn't address your Frontier issue at the moment. My reply is solely from the point of view to help you achieve a 100% up time for mail delivery while you continue to trouble shoot the Frontier SMTP mail issue(s). Happy New Years!

I don't believe anyone answered your specific question so the following reply attempts to offer that insight. - The delay battery write is only available if you have a Pro controller. Which you can always upgrade a none pro to a pro simply by purchasing the upgrade. This feature has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I have included a image capture so you know what is being discussed and called out. - Write Device Update: This feature is found in the *Programs* tab. You need only create a new program and select the *Write Device Update* in the (THEN) program line. I have appended a image capture which offers a little more insight for those devices which use a *Heart Beat*. High lighted in green is the (IF) program line. You will notice I included both On-Off heart beat states because older hardware actually sent a OFF instead of a ON heart beat signal every 24 hours. This behavior may be seen in the HDS, Open-Close sensors . . . High lighted in Purple as noted up above if you decide to use the write device update feature you may need to play with the wait command which is directly related to the firmware in place for the hardware in use. A wait of 0-3 seconds has been noted as offering the most success. YMMV so play with it . . . Lastly, high lighted in Red is where you will find the Write Device Update under the THEN program section. Lastly, this feature does not work on all Insteon hardware depending upon manufacture date and firmware on board.

It should be noted the users will see varied success using the *Write Device* Update feature. It depends upon the hardware & firmware in place a user has. A wait from 0-3 seconds is (typical) to be seen and used on various battery operated devices. The write device update does not work on all battery operated devices like older Remote Lincs, Remote Linc 2. Lastly, if the battery operated device has a *Heart Beat* node you can use this as the (IF) condition for the following hardware: Leak Sensor, Hidden Door Sensor, Open-Close Sensor.

Besides the physical hardware install you still need to purchase the $1.00 Z-Wave activation module via the Admin Console.

Hello Mario, As you noted in your reply you can only place a *Wait* in programs but not if the devices are directly linked to other hardware devices. If you purchased the ISY Portal it includes the Network Module as part of the two year $49.XX service. I would however suggest that you purchase the *Network Module* as a separate add on because you will always have it and won't ever expire or go away should you ever not decide to renew the portal subscription.

Information Only: If conservation of power is one of the primary factors turning off the LED will offer this. One of the forum members did a battery voltage tests on the MS and based on his comprehensive testing it comes as no great surprise turning off the LED consumed the least amount of energy from the battery. For me I've taken a three prong approach depending upon the location and area of the motion sensor in and around the home. If the MS is in a convenient location I use standard Duracell batteries. If the MS is exposed to very cold temperatures and is also very high mounted I use lithium battery cells. For those areas where its extremely highly elevated and sees very cold temperatures I use rechargeable lithium battery cells wired to a regulated solar charging station. No one wants to be scaling a 25 foot ladder when the mercury drops below -45'C. NOTE: I am under no illusion or expect any Insteon device which isn't so rated for *Extreme Temperatures* to survive or offer the same amount of performance or service life. Since this was done as a proof of concept for Arctic Testing - As of this writing every device subjected to the extreme cold has still operated fine going on strong for 1-5 years.

As noted the ISY Web Portal comes with the Network Module for the duration of your subscription. I would however say if you don't already have the module that you consider buying it directly. As this ensures no matter what you do this incredible feature will continue to allow you access, manage, and connect to network devices on the LAN / WAN along with cloud hosted services.

All of us like toys - None of us would be here if we didn't that is the simple truth. As you stated you took the required steps to bolster the home in the best way you could in hopes of making it more efficient and tight. This is the correct step and thought process . . . My tangent reply was to offer insight that too many people never consider resolving real building envelope issues. Tangent Alert: I would agree the over all intent of HA is to better ones home and family environment. To think people actually believe its a great idea to be tracked everyday and be monitored from what they eat, crap, to sleep. Makes me really sit back and consider where this world will be in 50 years . . . There are tens of millions of people using the NEST TSTAT, why? Because these people truly believe it offers more stable and reliable environmental? You have EcoBee with their remote sensors, why? Because people believe its going to offer more comfort and reliable heating / cooling? No . . . Both of the above are toys which has been marketed to people who simply like shiny objects and have no freaking clue about energy efficiency. These people truly believe investing $300 - $1500.00 dollars in toy product will reduce their energy bills while offering more comfort?!?! The only thing that will offer more comfort, energy savings, and keep the home stable is addressing the super structure of the home. You spend that same $300 - 1500.XX on more attic insulation, walls, basement, garage, where ever. Guess what you get from that one time investment? Steady, even, and predictable comfort which requires no batteries, sensors, etc. You sealed up that home from windows, doors, fixtures, what ever so the air exchange per hour is below 1. What do you get?? No drafts, no leaking conditioned air which translates directly to energy bills going up and consuming natural resources. Add some correct placed trees, shrubs, what ever you reduce your cooling bills. People are actually spending money on band aids like the remote control vent?!?! Again why? Because they have too much money then common sense . . . Not one of these poor fools has a freaking clue about back pressure and how it will impact the HVAC system. Yet they will go on their merry way and install hundreds of dollars of automated venting which is supposed to do what?? They truly believe shutting a vent to direct the heated / cooled air is going to address heat soaking?!?! Will it some how automagically address conductance ??? Proper insulation, mass, density are the only things which will offer a solution to the above and keeps on giving year after year with no further investment and doesn't break down unlike the dozens of electronic devices in use now. When you dumb it all down the two coldest parts of the world - One in the Arctic and where I live doesn't rely on toys to make my home more comfortable, energy efficient, or require me to press a button, utter some odd phrase, or have 9999999999999999 unicorn programs to initiate in hopes of offering my family all season comfort. Its called building your home to be energy efficient from the on set. Worse case you live in a 999999999999999 year old home. Guess what, almost every city has a program to help home owners to make their homes more efficient in the hopes of saving them and the world limited resources.
