  1. apostolakisl I apologize for my comments. This forum is not a place for personal attacks and that is not my intention. I believe and always will, that new ideas come from open discussions and always will. I have experience teaching and have always told all of my students that there are no silly or stupid questions. I am an advocate of open thinking. Innovation comes from people being able to think and explore the ways things are and are not.
  2. apostolakisl You seem to be very closed minded in your comments. You have no idea what my background is and you seem to have some misplaced loyalty to the HVAC industry as a whole. I am involved in the industry both on the residential side as well as the commercial side. I think that the concept of thermal storage recovery is important and is under-utilized in the industry as a whole. Unless you have proven data to the contrary, I suggest that you not have such a closed mind to new ideas. Sorry to rant about this but....
  3. unless you have remote temperature sensors in you duct-work you system can't possibly know about thermal storage and how to take advantage of this storage. I truly believe that if you run a test on your HVAC unit, the fan turns off immediately when your condenser shuts off. Leaving your fan on to take advantage of thermal storage is indeed more economical than running both the condenser and fan together. It's just a matter of how economical it is to capture the thermal storage. The ideal situation is to have a variable speed fan that can run at a lower speed to capture the thermal storage of your duct-work.
  4. appostolakist & jmed999, First off, I don't know of any HVAC system that doesn't control the fan mode in the "Cooling" cycle beyond what the thermostat monitors. I know that there are internal conditions for running the fan in "Heating" mode after set-point so that the unit doesn't overheat, and that has nothing to do with the thermostat. Having said this, I understand what jmed999 is stating. What you are seeing is the thermal storage of your duct-work. You are smart to want take advantage of this storage, otherwise it just dissipates into the attic or other unused spaces. I ran a test this morning and I noticed that by running my fan manually after reaching the HVAC set point my, I was able to run my fan for at least 5 minutes before any significant rise in my indoor temperature, therefore maximizing the use of thermo-storage in my duct-work. I like your thinking and will have to think about a program to maximize this effect. Any other comments?

    Problem

Hi Michel, In my previous post, I mentioned that everything came back just fine. My ISY was OK, I apparently had a problem with my Java somehow getting corrupted. I removed my Java Files and had to reboot my computer and all is fine. I did verify that ISY was OK with Mobilinc before doing the Java re-set.

    Problem

Follow up to my Posting. I actually did a shutdown of my ISY to no avail. I have a message that I send automatically when I do a restart, so I knew that my ISY was apparently workin. I verified the status of my ISY using Mobilinc, so I was sure that it was OK. That was weird. The problem seems to have been some kind of corruption of the Java on my computer. I deleted the Java and still had Java problems I then restarted my computer and now everything is fine. FYI for anyone who may experience a similar event.

    Problem

I went to log on to my ISY and I am receiving the following message boxes. Needless to say - I can't log into my ISY.
  8. Also as a point of information - something that I have found out through testing --- It seems that if you switch via a Scene or via the direct control from the ISY page, that control command is not seen by ISY programs. Any comments would be welcomed.
  9. hyounker, You must also trap for a "Fast On" in your scenario. It would be nice to disable the "Fast On". I don't know how fast your fuses react so trapping for "Fast On" may or may not be fast enough to keep your fuses from blowing.
  10. hyounker, I am using a 2 wire dimmer to control Low Voltage Halogen lights and have found a problem. If I allow the dimmer to go to full brightness, I get a noticeable on and off flickering. It's not just a flicker but a noticeable on and off cycling. I am sure this has to do with the use of this device with a transformer. I have solved that problem by putting the lights in a scene and not allowing the switch to go to a full "On" level. I limit the switch to about 70% and things seem to fine. You may also want to use a program to make sure the light never goes to full "On". I hope this helps.
  11. Lee, Thanks for taking the time to explain the workings of these devices. I appreciate all of the input that you provide on a regular basis on many topics. You seem to have a great deal of knowledge on the subject of Insteon and ISY, keep the information coming.
  12. Lee, These switches are not being turned on by any programs, just the "On" values are being changed. They are being controlled via the local switches, themselves. FYI for people who want to adjust the scenes via ISY, this was how the program needed to change the "On" levels via some sort of parameter for both switches to act the same way. It was unexpected, by me, that I would have to do that this way. One benefit that came my way because of this - I can actually have one switch act differently (Have a different "On" Level) verses the other.
  13. this is an addendum to my post with screen shots of my scene after the various switches are set. They are not in order.
  14. As long as I have used Insteon with ISY I still have questions about setting up a 3 way or multi-switch setup. I have 2 - 2477D Dual Band Switchlincs. I have incorporated them into a Scene. They were both added as Controllers. On their own, they work just fine. But...... As always there is a but involved. I have a program that changes the On Value of these switches after 11 pm. In order to make both of these switches work at the same "On" level I had to do some interesting programming. If From 11:59:00PM To 5:50:00AM (next day) Then In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom 2nd SW' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 20% (On Level) In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 20% (On Level) Else In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom 2nd SW' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 65% (On Level) In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 65% (On Level) Is this normal or what??? Has anyone had to use this programming method?
  15. Does anyone have any feedback on these INSTEON Thermostat Item# 2441TH Thermostats? I have heard both positive and negative reviews on them. The really bad thing that I heard is that they are not accurate because of the placement of the triac and the effects that this component has on the thermistor . So, any input would be greatly appreciated. I now use the Venstar version supplied by Smart home.
  16. Lee, You may be correct. The device is RF only. I will try to move one of my Access Points near by and see what happens. Thanks.
  17. Michel, I know that you guys are busy, but is there any date for the next release? Also, I have a new Switchlinc 2-wire dimmer #2474DWH. It works, just OK. It fails to react to some scene changes. Is this going to be supported for itself, not just a Switchlinc?
  18. I use LED bulbs that are dimmable and they work just fine. I am using LED bulbs with the Regular Switchlinc dimmer and no problems. I just don't recommend the FEIT bulbs that Costco sells. They don't have a soft start but they do dim. I am using them on my patio. I am using the Phillips bulbs from Home Depot and they work fine.
  19. I just bought 2 of these and they work very well. Great for old wiring setups.
  20. I have used several pumps but I have used the appliancelinc with no problems in the past. I am now using the switchlinc relay that's wired to a regular outlet with no problems. I have 2 fishpond pumps that run just fine. I am also using a fountain with a pump and filter for a fresh water supply for my dogs.

    The dashboard

Michel, I hope that this will lead to further enhancements to the dashboard.

    The dashboard

Michel, I have been trying to access the ISY via the various Web browsers on my tablet. This does not work because the various Browsers require a Java plug-in that is not available for Android (I don't know about the Ipad). I did notice that the Dashboard is available to run on the Browsers on my Android Tablet, and I find this to be acceptable. I hope that the future plans for ISY will continue to support the Dashboard. It even works remotely.
  23. Are they outdoor Cameras?
  24. Wes, I would like to do several things. I want to be informed when the camera is activated by either text message as my ISY does now or via email. I would also like the video stream to be uploaded to the cloud for further retrieval. My thought is, someone may be bold enough to steal the camera as well and then no picture. Most thieves these days will take everything, especially if they think they are being videoed, that gives them real incentive to break in and take computers and all. Are these cameras HD and do they have night vision? Thanks for the that you have provided.
  25. Xathros, Thanks for your input. I'll be waiting to hear from you on your progress with the camera that you bought.
