    ISY Issues

Now the current state is showing up but the device is still changing state without showing in the Admin console. 3. Shoot...you are right!
  4. The program just tried to run and this is what the event viewer said... Tue 08/21/2012 08:05:54 PM : [ Time] 20:05:54 0(0) Tue 08/21/2012 08:05:56 PM : [ Time] 20:05:56 0(0)
  5. My program is as follows... If On Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu From Sunset To 12:00:00PM (same day) Or On Sat, Fri From Sunset To 2:00:00AM (next day) Then Send Notification to 'XXXX XXXX e-mail' content 'Landscape Lights On' Set 'Landscape Lights' Fast On Else Set 'Landscape Lights' Fast Off
  6. When I click on "on" or "off" the "current state" does change in the admin console and in the event viewer it consistently says max hops = 3 and hops left =2. Sometimes when I reboot the ISY it says it can't communicate with the device but then it does perfectly when I change the state in the admin console. When the program runs nothing happens 4 times out of 5.

    ISY Issues

I have a new appliancelinc and have linked it. It was working fine for an hour or so but now the ISY says it can't communicate with it. I have tried everything and just rebooted the ISY. Since rebooting the ISY, the "Current State" in the Admin Console is blank but when I click on the on and off buttons in the ISY I can hear the appliancelinc turn on and off. The ISY is communication with the appiancelinc but it's like the Admin Console doesn't know it. Any ideas on what could be wrong? When I have the event viewer up and on level 3 it says, "Received an ACK for a different device". Not sure what to do.
  8. Hello! I have several programs and they all work flawlessly except 2 that involve the same device. When I turn the device on and off in the Admin Console it responds correctly, but when the program runs it doesn’t change the state of the device. I have had communication issues with this device before but it works great now that I added a filter to something else. It is very responsive when I make changes via the Admin Console since I added the filter to the other electrical device. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!
  9. Is anyone using the ISY to control their attic ventilation? How can this be done? Thanks!
  10. Those would require either a 2nd remote or it would require the wall wart being vissable to the IR from the remote. I wonder if this in combination of the IR ISY upgrade would work... http://www.amazon.com/Next-Generation-Remote-Control-Extender/dp/B000C1Z0HA/ref=zg_bs_11039361_1 This may allow me to use the same remote (not a different or multiple remotes) via RF to initiate the ISY through it's IR input. I'm thinking it will still work even thought the ISY is upstairs and the ISY IR isn't visible from where the downstairs remote is typically used. Thoughts?
  11. I agree with having a questioning attitude, that's why I asked the original question even though I have some experience in this area. I'm glad we have all given our opinions here but I didn't think anyone personally attacked anyone. I'm glad bright ideas have been discussed here.
  12. Good question. Since the air in the duct will heat up while stagnate, it will have reached (or come very close to reaching) thermodynamic equilibrium with the air surrounding the duct. So the energy it will take to cool the air in the duct could be assumed to be the same if the fan ran longer than the HVAC system called for or not. I hope that make sense.
  13. We are not using the words "thermal storage" correctly here. When cooler air is present in the duct as opposed to the air surrounding the duct, thermal energy is not being stored in the duct. Thermal energy moves from hot to cold (2nd law of thermodynamics) so as long as you are running the AC and not heat, you aren't storing thermal energy in the duct.
  14. As a State Licensed HVAC Professional Engineer I can tell you that in industrial applications running the fan after the supply temp is above ~65 is inefficient. Now with that said, all buildings and systems are different hence the reason I asked the question. If someone with experience in home HVAC had tested this and said it was typically best to run it up ~68 I may have done so. I seriously doubt running the fan the last 2 degrees is efficient. I also have some pretty good equipment I was using for my test, like a certified laser gun that is calibrated every six months. I agree the folks designing these systems know way more than I do and I'm now convinced they have the fan run the optimal amount of time generally speaking.
  15. -According to my tests, my cooling system is already running the fan after the compressor turns off. -I don't think running the fan until the supply air is the same temp as your house is the optimal thing to do. At some point running your fan will cost more than the energy you save by not cooling your home air. ie. if you setpoint is 75 and you run your fan until the supply air reaches 75 then the fan would run while the supply air is 74. I would guess it's cheaper to cool from 75 to 74 than running your fan at 74. I don't think you are getting much of a return at that point. I don't think running the fan while the supply air is at 74 is optimal. I would guess that running the fan past a supply air temp of ~65 isn't worth it. Of course this is just a guess.
  16. I think the IR part of the remote would work with the ISY but the ISY is upstairs and the IR wouldn't get to the ISY for sure. How could I get this to work?

  18. I have several electrical components including a TV connected to an appliance linc. So I was going to program the appliancelinc to turn off Mon - Thurs (just during the days) while my wife and I are at work. The TV rarely gets used but I wouldn't want my wife to have to turn the appliancelinc on via Mobilinc then have to use the regular TV remote control. She will get tired of doing that quick! I was wondering, since the remote control that operates that TV and it's components is an RF frequency remote, is there a way to get the remote to turn the appliancelinc on though the ISY as well as turning on all the components? This would really maximize the time the appliancelinc is off instead of just part of the day Mon - Thurs. If not, what is a better solution than the program which would only turn the components off part of the week? Thanks!
  19. Yeah the exhaust fan would have to be installed properly no doubt. I currently just leave the garage doors open for a little while after we get home but that leads to a lot more bugs, spider webs, and I've even found a bird in the garage. A lot of times if the wind isn't blowing I bet a forced ventilation would work better at removing the heat even though the open garage doors are larger.
  20. I'm a little surprised more people aren't interested in this. Hot garages = higher electricity bills. I would love to be able to figure this out. Not sure what cfm rating the fan should be. I'm guessing that would be a case by case bases.
  21. I'm guessing this was a Java 7 issue. I since went from Java 7 and UI 3.3.1 to Java 6 and UI 3.2.6.
  22. What other software could I open the txt file with?
  23. My Venstar T1700 has an option to run the fan after the AC has turned off. I took some data and looking for advice. With my HVAC not running my register is 68 F. With the AC on, the register bottoms out at ~53 F. When I raise the setpoint to get the AC to turn off I notice the register temp slowly goes up to ~61 before it turns the airflow off. So I think it cools then when I adjust the setpoint up to get the AC to turn off the compressor turns off immediately but the fan continues to run. So it's almost as if my unit already is running the fan after the compressor stops. My question is should I set the Venstar to continue to run? If so how long or better yet until what register temp? ie. is it a good idea to let it run until the register temp is ~68? Thoughts?
  24. I only have the Office Starter package so I can't view the log in excel. Is there another way to view the log?
  25. I always thought it would be a neat project and possibly a large energy saver. This time of year it's real hot in the south. My wife and I both park our cars in the garage about 5:30. Since the garage doors are insulated the garage gets very very hot. I'm sure some of this heat is absorbed into the house which I pay to have conditioned. I was thinking it would be great to have a thermostat automatically turn a ventilation fan on in the garage when the temp gets a few degrees above the outside temp. Then a few hours or so later when the heat has been taken out of the garage and it has returned to a lower temp the fan could automatically turn off. I'm thinking if this is optimized it could save some money on the electric bill. Has anyone done this? How could this be done? Thanks!
