  1. The A button is always connected to the load itself. You cannot change that. It will always trigger the light regardless of how programmed.
  2. Personally I'd replace everything at once if the cost is a few hundred bucks and you're that concerned about things not working properly with the plm. For starters, zwave is a different beast all together. Depending on where things are going, you may need devices in places you're not planning on changing out just to get the signal to devices that may be close by. My next reason is time. If you're spending a considerable time troubleshooting to get things working right, the cost in dollars may be worthwhile to have a working and stable system rather than spending hours on end getting stuff to work only for it to be flakey
  3. Factory reset the switch and test to see if it works after the factory reset. If it does, right click on the ISY and choose restore devices.
  4. I agree about ease of replacement. Especially with multi-gang boxes. I used extra deep boxes when I built my house so I wouldn't have to fight so hard if/when I needed to do a swap.
  5. My exact sentiments as well. Well said. +1 on the whole house protection. I have one on my meter and panel. I recommend anyone using electronic switches to do the same.
  6. I'm with Larryllix. I use ecobee 3s in my home and im highly satisfied with them. While they aren't directly compatible with the ISY, they can be added for additional control. With that said, I've found I haven't needed to add mine. It natively does what I need it it to do saving time and effort.
  7. I know Insteons reliability has gotten much better over the years so I wouldn't be opposed to staying with them. You state you have 2476s dying. Since those haven't been made in at least 6 years, how old are your switches overall? Being an electronic device at some point they will die. That won't change no matter who you go with. As already mentioned you could try zwave but that comes with it's own set of issues that may or may not be a problem for you (no protocol is perfect). As with Mwester, I only use mine for lamps and accent lights (strip lights). I wouldn't use them for main lights. For me, It's not cost effective (house dependant). Secondly, should your router or bridge go down, they won't work until you replace them.
  8. If it's it's been 5 years then it possibly be the plm.
  9. It makes a nice paperweight. Lol
  10. I have about a dozen of them and mine works without issue. I'm using the 5.0.14 firmware. I would check your firmware and clear your Java cache. It also may not be in range.
  11. Did you hook up the ISY prior to connecting the plm? If so, unplug the ISY make sure the plm is plugged into the ISY and powered up before hooking up the ISY to power
  12. Since you don't have many devices, I'd start with a clean slate. Factory reset your zwave dongle and lock. Clear your Java cache, Take your plug-in modules close to the ISY to get them to add. Exclude then include. Add the one you plan on using closest to the ISY first, then add the next. Move them to the locations you think they will be most effective. Once done, bring the ISY within 3 feet of your lock, exclude it and then include it. Leave it there for a few minutes just in case it has nodes that need to show up. Once all that is done do a network heal.

    Replace ISY

You will want to make sure every device you purchase has zwave plus to take advantage of any zwave plus benefits.

  15. I didn't have that issue when I used incandescent bulbs. I can see it present with LED bulbs now. Haven't dealt with RadioRa2 with newer leds to know if it's as prevalent. I do see it happen still with control4 as well. If it's not, then that's a really good benefit as I do like uniformity.
  16. RadioRa has issues in itself as well as needing the use of repeaters just any other technology. With that said, to compare radio ra or any other high end system to insteon or zwave is comparing apples to oranges. First off is cost. Generally you get what you pay for. The same quality and performance will come with an increase in cost. Pepple already look for the cheapest devices so increasing cost isn't an option. Secondly radio ra is professionally Installed. Done properly this means someone else is doing the designing, installing, and troubleshooting rather than the end user. This means the things you go through now would be done by someone else. The end result is the appearance of a trouble free system when reality is, the kinks were worked out for you.
  17. Insteon isnt a resurrected x10. It is its own protocol in regards to how it communicates, frequency etc. Yes Insteon allows its devices to speak to x10 devices but should one do that, they lose the benefits of insteon. With that said, I do get your point in regards to decoupling. some devices have this ability. Hopefully one day in the future they will bring it to all of them. Personally, I prefer both. Its much easier to fix line noise than troubleshoot RF interference.
  18. There is no perfect system. Your comment about Powerline and needing a filterlinc is akin to someone saying zwave is terrible because they need 2-3 devices just to communicate with a lock 20 feet away. Your issue isn't a problem with Insteon, the problem is insteon in your particular home. There are many many people using insteon without issues just like there are zwave people without issues. RF only is not perfect at all. Personally in this day and age, I think its foolhardy to go all in on any 1 protocol. Why do that when you can pick and choose the best technology for any particular situation.
  19. As Paul stated, this is the umpteenth time insteon's demise has been bought up....in the meantime, I see more zwave companies going out of business. That's not an indictment of zwave just the resilience of insteon.
  20. Actually the answer to both is yes. Steve Lee is known in many circles as an automation guru. Hell, he's personally helped me a lot when I first learned about insteon.
  21. What are the keypads? Are they the newer dual-band kpls or older Powerline only? Factory reset them, then restore them from the isy
  22. I agree with Dbuss in regards to zwave. Before that however, I'd move it back to your original location and see if things go back to normal. If it does, then put it back where you want it then do a network heal.
  23. All of my rooms have individual scenes with the devices for that room built. I don't like how the buttons behave when using the non toggle modes so I created a program that will turn off each room's scene individually and then automatically turn off the backlight to the keypad that was pushed
  24. You answered your own questions in your initial post. All that you stated is what you should do. The network module is part of your Isy unless you purchased it as part of a portal subscription. You could talk to the buyer and go over the ISY with them. Delete the scenes & programs that they don't want and leave the ones they do. This will save you and them unnecessary work with the ISY. I would save a backup file of that final configuration to a USB stick once completed for their benefit. That way they have a fix should they mess something up when they mess with it. If you're leaving your Echos behind (personally I wouldn't), then yes, remove them from your account. If it were me, I'd help them set up the Echos and Isy together so they could control whatever functions you've left behind for them.
  25. Post the programs that you wrote to accomplish what you are trying to do. Instead of focusing on manually controlling the lock only, why not have them auto lock as well? In doing so, just in case you forget, dose off, etc., the system handles it for you. During the day/evening, my locks will automatically lock if the doors are closed after 45 minutes (just in case I'm bringing stuff in the house). After 9pm the will lock automatically after 10min. My goodnight programs will also lock the doors immediately. I have 3 locks with my setup except I have my keypads light up when any lock is unlocked. Turning the keypad button off will lock whatever is unlocked. Turning the button on (manually) will unlock my front door. To accomplish this, I did a few steps. I created a scene with all my kpl buttons in it as controllers. That way pushing any will turn them all on. My programs also references this scene so if the status of any door is unlocked all buttons light up together. If status door A, B, or C is not locked set scene door lock on Or else set scene door lock off While all of my locks are programmed to auto lock after a certain amount of time if the door is closed I can still manually override that with my keypads. If control kpl a, b, c, or d (etc) is switched off then lock locks a,b, & c. All of my doors have sensors in them that disables any locking programs. I do this because an open door that is locked is worthless. I have individual programs for each door to track open doors. If the door is open and I try to lock it via the keypad, it'll text me letting me know the door is open. Now that the ISY can do voice commands, when I have time, I may play around with it so that I can get a voice alert when that happens.
