Is RadioRA3 the Ultimate Replacement For Insteon?
lilyoyo1 replied to upstatemike's topic in Coffee Shop
You'd be surrised how easy it is. If I had my way, all lights in a home would be dimmable and automated (all of mine are). N -
Is RadioRA3 the Ultimate Replacement For Insteon?
lilyoyo1 replied to upstatemike's topic in Coffee Shop
Hallways, closets, and bathrooms are some of the first places i like to automate. -
As long as HA Ada support for Ra3 then that would be possible. Personally I try to avoid mixing systems as much as possible but to each their own.
-
With the Isy, you can mix and match. I'm going with RA3 but i can use it with C4 if the Isy doesn't support it by the time I need it to. On its own, Ra is too limited with it's programming to use without a more advanced controller. That comes down to how you use your system though.
-
I'm sure that is the case for some people. But then again they still have control as long as they use a controller such as the Isy. We no longer live in a world where it has to be either or so why worry about it It's not like insteon devices would stop working if they cease to exist. Buy what they have that you need and substitute the rest with other supported devices.

There will be another post by Tuesday about the same thing. Maybe we should create a sub forum for the topic. ?

There's going to be a few more pretty soon

I'm confused since you said you don't want to rely on a hub but then talk about using systems that require a hub. From my experience with Hue and Control 4, 2.4GHz being an issue for the space is overblown. There are steps a person can take (such as changing channels) to minimize that. With that said, unless someone lives in an apartment, townhouse, or condo; most issues will be kept to a minimum. At this point, Matter doesn't matter. It'll be great for those Alexa/Google/Homekit users who want simplicity but for those desiring advanced control, I'm not seeing where it's beneficial.

I am. We can chat. Lutron has a great system but the look of their standard switches has always held them back for me. With the new look, it's something Id want in my own home and my name associated with in regards to homes in working on. I like the fact that you can substitute standard sunnata switches in non automated areas to keep the same look. There are also supposed to be non rf versions of the dimmer and relay coming as well. This will come in handy (dimmer) for situations where you want to dim from multiple locations. It's a cost savings for customers who value uniformity while at the same time allowing one to still make a little more than they probably would have without. Id love for UDI to support RA3. Alot of that comes down to Lutron giving access to their API though. I know @simplextech has said he's already looked into it so that's a plus in that area. Maybe @Michel Kohanimcan check with Lutron too to help facilitate it.

I'm moving on. I'll be switching to Ra3 and C4
-
I just saw that. I guess I'll start putting some up once that one sells

Zwave requires (at least they used to) secure devices to be within 3 feet of the controller. While you may have the 500 board, your locks are 300 which means that's the level your controller will be using.

Can I upgrade my ISY994i to control Z-Wave modules?
lilyoyo1 replied to Wes Westhaver's topic in ISY994
I'm surprised you were able to upgrade your Isy to. 16b but don't know where to find updates. It can be found on the sub-forum that says software releases and updates -
I really wish they would just so we can move on from the subject

Can I upgrade my ISY994i to control Z-Wave modules?
lilyoyo1 replied to Wes Westhaver's topic in ISY994
The 500 series board is not out of date. Im simply saying polisy and the 700 board prepares you for tomorrow. Most zwave devices available are 500 series. 700 is currently the newest release but it'll be another year or 2 before the market is saturated with those devices. With that said, even then, zwave will have a newer release and 700 will be considered old by then. -
You're obsessed with them aren't you?

lilyoyo1 replied to Wes Westhaver's topic in ISY994
Yes. You can find it on UDI's website. Unless this is a pressing need, you may be better off waiting until Polisy supports zwave and then getting polisy along with the zooz 700 series zwave module for future proofing as the 500 board (which the Isy currently supports) will not be upgraded in the future -
I'll be using radio Ra3 in our current home once released. Hopefully polisy supports it by the time I do so otherwise I'll use it with a C4 controller. In our next home, while C4 is still in the lead, depending on how we like Ra3- that may change

Supply issues are affecting every company. With that said if you're looking for something different, now is the time to experiment. The reason you don't see a clear answer is because there is none. Everyone has different reasons for choosing their products. There are those (like me) who value form just as much as function (and are willing to pay for it) while others like to be more involved so flashing software and so forth appeals more to them. Some just want things to work at a low cost so they are willing to choose products that fit that category. This is why I say experiment. Depending on your Isy firmware, what modules you have (or are willing to get) also plays a role. @MrBill responded while i was posting. The same thing applies to leave however. Especially the cost factor as you will need to build your network up in order for things to work properly

Old news. Already discussed on this post and numerous others

Adding extra ZWave controllers to expand range?
lilyoyo1 replied to PatPend's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
I agree with you. Our old house we sold was 5400 sq ft heated and never had zwave issues. While hops does matter overall, it's not like it uses the first 4 devices it comes across in hop count. The biggest issues I've seen is people try to build their network using the smallest number of devices vs investing in the infrastructure to have a solid network. -

It's always crazy to me when a person tries to get smart with those responding to their questions for help- especially when they have multiple posts with issues. You'd think they would hold off from doing that until their issues were at least resolved -
160commands. I'd have a headache trying to remember all of them. ?

What do you mean it goes quickly and nothing happens? What exact steps did you take? It sounds like you're not doing the process correctly. Generally it'll run for a short while on its own if you do nothing at all. If it goes quickly, then you have something else going on. It's paramount that you answer the questions asked and follow the instructions correctly so that we can properly assist you. Everything asked and instructions given were done because they all play a part in the issues you're having -

Factory reset device, choose start linking, press and hold set button until it pops up. Also make sure your firmware and UI matches
