As I stated before (many times), the code is the same exact code. It can work with other systems now if they would release the api for them so that other systems could add them to their databases. I'll cover this one last time before I check out of this argument again. The isy can currently add the device (No new plm needed). SImilar to past devices that were unsupported, they add as an unsupported device. The isy can send the on, off, and dim commands to each corresponding device and they will respond to the command sent. However, unless the ISY queries the device, it does not know the status if they are manually controlled. Multi function devices such as the keypad only expose their main loads so you would not have access to the other buttons. This is not a plm issue. It is a software issue and it would be on smartlabs to release the necessary information and for developers to choose to support it. For those who know how to reverse engineer insteon (cough cough @Michel Kohanim?) they could add it to their systems now if they chose too. UDI has already stated they will not be doing so and I agree with their reasons completely. Just saying that its technically possible. Manually linking to existing insteon devices are also possible with no limitations other than the effort it takes to manually link devices. In short, no functionality has been lost at all. Only additional features. Smartlabs made a conscientious decision to not integrate with other systems at this time. Hopefully, they change their minds soon as I think its a great product. For me its a moot point. Once Ra3 comes out im switching to that in this house and our other house will be C4 (maybe Ra3 if I end up liking it more than C4 switches) once finished.

Is RadioRA3 the Ultimate Replacement For Insteon?
lilyoyo1 replied to upstatemike's topic in Coffee Shop
There is a free course but if you want the full capability, you'll need the paid course which is only around 600 bucks (may be more now). While that may sound expensive, it's much cheaper than having to pay someone to install and manage the system for you. Compared to everyone else, they really do make it assessable to anyone while protecting their dealers at the same time -
Have all of what functionality? The new line already does what insteon can do- and more. It's the same exact code. If you're referring to past device lineup then no it will not. They disco'd devices for a reason. I doubt they'd turn around and release the same non selling devices under a different name. With it being a new line, they'll still grow the portfolio over time. With what devices and time frame, I don't know

You do not need the 500 board for new stuff. They'll still work with it. You just wouldn't take advantage of the features that 500 series devices have such as network wide inclusion, range, etc.... They'll still work though. I use the lux sensor in zwave motion sensor to determine when I turn my lights on. It works really well. Regardless of time, depending on occupancy of a room and situation, lights will automatically turn on off it's too dark.

I've been staying out of those debates lately! That 1000+ post burnt me out from it

Long term, i hghly doubt insteon as we know it will exist. Not because smartlabs is going out of business but due to the fact there is no point in maintaining 2 lines (in the same price point) that does the same thing. They are a small company so it would be difficult to do so the way Leon is able to work so of their different lines. It's just like UDI with the 994 and Polisy. Once polisy is completely up and running, there really is no reason to keep the current 994 in the lineup.

Is RadioRA3 the Ultimate Replacement For Insteon?

My first suspicion would be to achieve much greater range -

I like their sunnata switches so I'm happy to see them keeping that same look. It can also bring the price down since a person can use the Sunnata line in places they don't want to automate allowing for uniformity throughout the house -
Communication error with Z-Wave device

Bring module close to ISU/PLM. Choose start linking>press set button on device until you hear the chirp

You have a week mesh. The siren has always been one of the strongest/best range extenders. With it no longer there, your range has been impacted. Zwave could have automatically healed itself over time but with limited repeaters has no other pathways which is why you've experienced the issues that you have
-
Would this work?

Nokia is compatible with legacy products if you manually link them. However since no software currently supports both, you would be limited in what you can do via a controller
-
This is why I stated it depends on what you use. Different zwave brands achieve your desired results differently. You're asking open ended questions which is why you're getting open ended answers. Yes, zwave can be added to scenes but not all zwave devices can be a controller in a scene. Insteon has more flexibility work it comes to scenes than zwave does do depending on what you want to accomplish and what you want to use, scenes may or may not be the best option It would be much easier if you provided information in regards to light switches you were planning to use in your home as we could then tell you want you need to do to make a 3 way switch.
-
It's possible with zwave. What you need to do depends on what you end up using

There are many ways to accomplish what you're trying to do. The best depends on the full scope of your home. I recommend trying a few different things to see what fits your situation. In addition to what MrBill said, I'll add a few others. Create a scene with everything in it as responders configured to be on. Create another scene with your kpl button in it as a responder as well. There are multiple ways to accomplish the rest via programs. Me- i'd create a program that that turns the everything scene off automatically from a single tap (including the kpl button) and another program that will turn everything on if i double tap it. You could also create a program that turns on your kpl button if the status of any button is on and a program that turns the lights off if you turn the kpl button off.

There are 2 stores. One is for cloud based nodeservers and the other is for local options such as polisy and Rpi users. Since you said you haven't installed anything locally I assume you're using the cloud based one. I don't use that so I can't say definitively what you can do with that one. I assume the capabilities of both are the same though. What you see in the admin console cannot be manipulated. You need to either use programs or scenes

Console does not see KPL buttons

That too. I doubt they'd want to wait that long for to be able to use a single device though- 5 replies

You need an isy994. The 99i has been discontinued for years so it doesn't support newer devices- 5 replies

Thank you. We'll be going with something else in the next house they doesn't require as much upkeep. That's where I put mine too

Mine arrived today. Hopefully I don't lose it before Polisy is ready. Let me not put it in a place where i won't forget about it. ?

What specifically are you doing? Which ecobee nodeserver and what's your firmware and UI?
-
It's in stock. Just ordered one and it'll be delivered today

Not that I've seen. The logs can only say what happened not why. From the looks of things I'd say environmental. Not every house is great for rf based devices. If it's always the same devices, I'd look to see who the neighbors are to those devices as well as the location as stated earlier. If you take a device that works all the time, swap with a bad one and update the neighbors. What happens? If the good device continues to work in the bad location and the bad device continues to have issues, then you'll know it's the device. If the behavior stays the same in the location, then you know it's environmental
