I feel your pain. I had to wait a year for my GV80

Guess a whole lot of companies are going out of business then.

Not yet. The date has been pushed back

You'd buy polisy. It can be found on Universal devices webpage in the store -
There was never a toilet paper shortage. There was a common sense shortage. Had people not made a run on toilet paper, over buying it to hoard, stores never would have sold out

Anyone have a Zen32 switch/scene controller?
lilyoyo1 replied to xlurkr's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
The speed is probably based on the device processor itself since your Isy board is still 500 series. -
That's not politics. It's part of what lumber is higher
-
As always, you give half the story to support your so called facts. After you ignore my rebuttals, you change the goal posts to try and fit your argument. Since you want to talk about trees, whats behind the rise in costs? A shutdown of Mills, coupled with the unexpected booming construction market here in the US taking away your precious Canadian trees. That with a certain so called President adding a 24% tariff to imported wood raised prices here. There....back to California I go.... Wholesale lumber prices have dropped significantly though it's still high as hell. That difference hasn't been seen in stores yet because old inventory hasnt sold yet. They purchased at x dollars which they need to recoup before they sell at a new lower price. You'd do the same. Here you go, bringing up old stuff. This isn't the 70s, 80s and 90s anymore. Mfg. practices are much different today than they were back then. Even Hyundai makes really good cars now. The chip shortage affects every single car company whether they're American, Korean, German, Japanese, etc. You hear about the big 3 because it's North America. Toyota just cut output by 40% this month so there goes that argument. In regards to Crapple- you might want to check your sources. They've already stated their MacBooks and ipads have been affected. They expect it to hit the iPhone in the 4th quarter impacted the iPhone 13. And yes, I'm quite sure you'll see (and are seeing) hoarding. Hell, I've started hoarding things as well to ensure I'm good for my installations and service work. Most companies went to lean mfg. to save money on warehousing and it caught up to them due to the pandemic. I can't believe thatnyour using the whole.these other companies are making things so why can't they argument. That's ridiculous. Yes, millions of items are still being made but millions more are not. Do you think Sony still wants empty shelves of PS5's with the holiday season approaching? Do you think Sonos wants 1 or Sonos 5 in most best buys? Nope. Just because they're able to make them doesn't mean they are making the quantity they want. Making a car is a lot different than making a product. Due to the costs involved in mfg, if they don't make a certain amount when they run, it can cost tens of thousands of dollars. In addition, new products newly designed can take advantage of newer chips that may or may not be in short supply vs something that was designed years ago. With apple designing their own chips, this is part of why they haven't had the same issues as others. Their devices that use off the shelf parts are effected. This is why apple is starting to feel the pinch. Their stockpile for off the shelf components are running out. What they design is in great supply but the components that goes into other stuff isn't. You're an extremely intelligent man, i know you know this same information. You're just choosing to ignore it.

Here we go again. Its not just a chip shortage. There's a shortage and increase with everything. The chip shortage is just main news due to it causing major shutdowns in the automotive industry. Pretty much anything we use that is powered by electricty has a chip in it. Even refrigerators. Not just the 4 models that you think. Just because you see stuff to be sold doesn't mean they're running at full capacity. Insteon has switches available right now to buy. Does that mean they're out of the woods on inventory? No it doesn't. Just because your local stores are full of stuff doesn't mean the rest of the country or world is. Let's be real, the great state of California has more people than all of Canada. You're going to have full stores since there aren't enough people to buy everything ?. There is much more than the silicone shortage that goes into price increases. For example, one of my clients runs a local steel mill. I talked to him about how they were affected. Simply due to covid prevention/mitigation, they spent over 3 mil on cleaning, PPE, etc. for their workers and that's at a single Mill. How many other factories had to do the same. How many companies in general had to do the same? Even now, you're having companies giving bonuses to retain and hire new workers and increasing salaries. Needing to do more with less. All comes at a price. My prices are higher now than they were before COVID. Why? I have to pay more for people to work, material cost is higher (even with discounts), and other associated costs has gone up such as insurance, supplies, and keeping myself and workers safe. Early on, I ate the cost increases due to my discounted pricing (also why I've gotten away from lower cost goods...Less margin). However, with the cost to stay in business rising, I had to make adjustments as well. Just like any other business owner, I'm in this to make money. Is that me being greedy. No. That's me making sure I can stay in business to provide for my family and maintain our lifestyle for today and long into the future. Take trucking industry. I have 2 friends with trucking companies. 1 owns a dump truck company with 80 trucks in 3 different locations. Another has about 120 delivery vans. Both raised their worker pay in order to keep staff from leaving to hire paying companies since other companies were hiring as well. Though they assign vehicles to their driver's, they still pay companies to sanitize their vehicles (and office) weekly and/or when someone switches to a different one. Both provide masks and sanitizer to employees. In addition to that, they had to hire extra people to have coverage for when people get sick. They also provided paid time off to get tested, vaccinated, etc. to their employees. All of which was not budgeted for when COVID hit. Now it is but it's still an added cost that gets passed on to customers. That's not greed. Its the cost of doing business. Is there greed? Of course. But there are also lots of things that goes into the cost of things that people do. The law of supply and demand drives price increases (besides the usual things that goes into cost). The less supply there is with demand, the more a person can charge. In regards to automation, the good thing is that we don't have to buy stuff if we don't want to pay what they want for it. The less demand there is with an abundance of supply means lower cost.

What does any of that have to do with anything?

In life nothing is free.... especially with automation. It really comes down to how much you're willing to pay. Whether it's apps, modules, upgrades, etc. someone else is doing the work for you and that's what you're paying for. In addition to what MrBill stated there are more things to think about. Cheap to free devices will always come with trade offs. While zwave has its own issues, you are paying for the convenience of being able to easily add to the isy. With sonoff, you have to flash the proper software to them and subsequent updates in the future. What zwave and other more expensive devices do for you, you do for yourself with sonoff. -
Insteon is much easier to use than zwave but at this time it's nearly impossible to get everything you need from them to get up and running. They're out of plms for the foreseeable future which is needed and they no longer make thermostats. Did you try to Google how to factory reset your thermostat. Sometimes people will post videos or on other forums little tips like that for others.
-
I wouldn't blame the company for not talking to you. It's the person who sold you thermostats designed for dealers. Companies do not talk to end users to protect that network. It sucks that people will sell them to end users but many companies do this so be careful with your replacement devices. All devices will delete their key with a factory reset so that's not a problem. Most controllers recommend doing the remove process prior to adding a device (even for new devices) so that wouldn't be an issue regardless should you sell your devices. If the Isy is having problems removing your thermostats, it could be that your mesh is broken. Have you removed any devices used for your network?
-
You don't say what your firmware and UI are so I can only make assumptions based off the latest firmware. I've never seen the Isy give a list of devices when removing since zwave support first came out so I'm not sure how you got a list of zwave devices. Typically, you choose the remove device in the Isy, then go to your device and trigger it's inclusion process. This will remove the device from the Isy network. Should your controller go down, you would do the same with the new controller. Use the new controller to Remove and then add it back to it.

Is RemoteLinc (or RemoteLinc 2) still a thing? Alternatives?
lilyoyo1 replied to romeo_echo's topic in ISY994
That's what happened to me as well. I used to have 2- 8 button kpls per room. Now it's a single 6 button in most areas and even that's too many buttons. Better programming and voice control has minimized the need for that stuff for me. My in wall kpls are my back up but i rarely use voice anyway since most things turn on, off, and dim on their own depending on different factors -

I know. I was just commenting why it's not more popular. They used to be but sales have went down as more have turned to voice assistants -

I think voice control has lessened the need for wireless remotes for many people. -
I couldn't agree more. I can live without music and anything else internet connected. I need my lights to work
-
The system is not currently designed for Isy (or any other advanced system) users so you wouldn't see a need. There are plenty of people out there who doesn't need a full system in that manner. It's like buying a car. I don't go off roading so I don't understand why a person would get a Jeep or any true off road capable vehicle. But i understand that some people do so I get why people buy them.

The devices work with Alexa and Google home. Homekit coming sometime soon as well as the motion sensor. They'll work with Alexa like any other device (don't use Alexa for automation so I can't say how deep). It's a basic app for general use. Outside of timer offsets, it allows for device configuration and schedules
-
No it does not at this time. It's still in alpha testing in regards to running the admin console for insteon. Zwave testing is coming (700 series) but no word on when that will be at this time. You can follow the progress on the sub-forum below this one.

I do my hue (in addition to some other stuff) the way MrBill does his as well. The lights turn on and off just like they would if connected normally Uniformity matters a great deal to me in addition to presentation. There's no way I could live with toggle switches mixed with paddles- let alone tape over a switch. The Mrs. would definitely put an end to that as well. I try to avoid double taps for the most part. When I do use them, it's usually to trigger the opposite of something at any given time or for events with the same trigger but different users. For example, during the early evening in the bedroom, the lamps come on full brightness. A double tap will trigger their preset dim level. Later at night, they'll come on at their preset dim level and a double tap will trigger all the way on. For events, my wife can turn on her relax for the patio and it'll set the lighting and music to her tastes. If i go out, I'll double tap it and it'll do the same for me.

I'd get a better programmer if that's the case. ?

In some ways, i hope that day comes soon just so we can move on from this being said
