Ok. How do I fix that?
-
I did my best to follow the steps provided by Benoit. Did I do what I was supposed to? Obviously didn’t. Now, when I Select the Chesapeake UUID Tool-Connectivity-Amazon Echo the devices and spokens for Chesapeake appear correctly. Likewise, when I select Wolf Creek UUID Tool-Connectivity-Amazon Echo the devices and spokens for Wolf Creek appear correctly. Th e spokens that work, however, are defined by the Mac and Alexa Apps and the Amazon account selected. This results in only one location having functioning spokens. Could this be happening because I am using separate Amazon accounts for each location. If that is true there must be a way not evident to me.

I travelled to the remote ISY and did the following: Perform the following steps in the order given: 1. Open the ISY Portal • Select"My Profile" (top right on screen) • Select "My Preferred ISY" • Select the UUID of the ISY where the Amazon account is located (Chesapeake or Wolf Creek) • Save 2. Select "Alexa" in the Mac's menu bar • Select "Not D.?" • Sign out • Once signed out, sign in to the Amazon account where the ISY is located (use the name and password found in 1Password) • Check the “Settings” in the account to ensure they are correct. If not, delete them and “Discover”. Check to ensure they are correct. 3. On the iPhone, select the Amazon Alexa App • Check to ensure the account on the iPhone is the same as the account on the Mac. If not, select “I am not D. Wheeler” and install the correct account using the name and password found in 1Password. • Check the “Settings” in the account to ensure they are correct. If not, scroll to the bottom of the screen.Select "Forget All Devices" • Select "Discover Devices" • Confirm that the devices those located at the desired location on the Mac and the iPhone. • Test to ensure Spokens produce the desired results Test failed. My wife can control her Echos. I can't unless I set up s ove, If I do that, I can control my devices but then my wife can't. Between this and trying to set an Americrest HD camera I find both abject failures.

Alexa not working after Insteon Modem Replacement
smokegrub replied to Larryboy's topic in Amazon Echo
I would reboot my Alexa devices by unplugging and replugging each. -
Thanks, will try this next time we are both at separate residences, about 10 days.
-
I am referring to the latter. It is clear that I am "in over my head" in setting my system up so I can use both portals to control my Alexa devices simultaneously in my separate residences. The portal for my primary residence is performing as it should now. In order to use Alexa at my secondary residence I have to change the preferred portal to that location, open the app in my Mac, tell the app I am not Donnie, log into the Amazon account for the secondary location, forget devices and discover. When I do that Alexa will work at th secondary residence but not at my primary residence. I need set-by-step instructions to set the portals up to enable me to use Alexa at both residences simultaneously. Any help will be appreciated.

My ISY at my primary residence is Under My Profile linked to my primary residence email address. This accesses my first Amazon Account. My second ISY shows as linked to the same email address/Amazon account. I can find no way to change that address to the email address I used to set up and access the second Amazon account. If I unlink and relink it returns to its former email address. How do I change this? Normally i select the portal where I happen do be, make that my preferred, log into Amazon on my Mac, tell the account its not me and then log into the other amazon account. Works, but it is a real pain. Moreover, if my wife stays in the other residence she cannot use Alexa. Please help me solve this problem.

Michel: I have read everything and I just want to make certain we have effectively communicated. When I finish will I be able to use spokens at one residence at the same time my wife is using spokens at the other residence?
-
Thanks, Michel. I will check that out.

I have separate Amazon Accounts and portals for two residences. Currently, I set the preferred portal for a residence; select the Amazon Account for that residence; forget devices; discover devices. Generally works well. Is it possible to use both portals simultaneously to control Alexa at both residences? As I see it now, I can use Alexa only at one residence at a time.

PLM forgetting all links \ ISY Restore PLM fixes \ bad PLM ??
smokegrub replied to junkycosmos's topic in ISY994
The symptoms and timeline all point to a failing PLM. Replace it and save yourself unnecessary loss of time. I just replaced one. Same basic symptoms. Following a restore mine would work fine for a while then I would lose battery devices. -
Amazon echo saying "not responding" and "no device found"
smokegrub replied to rccoleman's topic in Amazon Echo
I have the same occurring at two separate locations and I have not upgraded to 5.0.x. -
This old home has three ceiling fan/light combos. I recently purchased 4 FanLincs, but I can use those in my primary residence, if necessary. I did a bit of research for z-wave controllers that will control both the light and fan. All I found were controllers of either the fan or night but not both. Is my assessment correct? If so, changing this remote location to z-wave will mostly entail replacement of existing Insteon devices.
-
I have a second ISY at that location. It had never crossed my mind, however, to begin a technology shift at that location. I have been somewhat biased against Z-wave because of my lack of familiarity and a desire to standardize on technology insofar as possible. First question, does Z-wave have any reliance on the PLM?

That is promising. Thanks for sharing. Time will tell.

For what it's worth, I am reporting another PLM failure. This one lasted, guess what, a bit more than two years! The cost, no big deal. The nuisance factor, enormous. The location is a considerable distance from my primary residence and failure of the PLM leaves me "blind" until I can travel to that location and effect the repair. Also, I have several battery devices at that location, each of which has be placed into linking mode followed by "Write Updates". Generally speaking, I am well-pleased with my large investment in Smarthome devices in two homes but my longterm allegiance to the company is being strained by their failure to make this critical system component "bullet proof". I understand some degree of obsolescence as a corporate planning strategy but not in a component of such critical importance. C'mon Smarthome!
-
I applaud UDI for being so supportive of its existing customers. Unlike our ISPs who offer financial inducements to new customers and gouge their faithful longterm customers until they are compelled to threaten switching to a competitor. That practice astounds me and is the primary reason I have no allegiance to my provider. Michel, we are grateful for the service UDI provides.

For what it's worth, I have a Stu's BuzzLinc in the bedroom. If any of my dozen or so Leak Sensors get wet, The BuzzLinc sounds off. That simple system provides an alert when email is useless.

How far is your workshop from the nearest dual band in your house? I have a situation similar to yours and I am able to communicate with devices in my detached garage. Have you tried?

Problem resolved itself. Must have been a glitch on Amazon's end.

This morning all spokens, including the most basic, such as, "Alexa, what time is it" are greeted with the response, "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again in a little while". I have rebooted my Echo Dots. I have rebooted the router. I have closed the Amazon account and reentered it. I have checked the portal to ensure things appear OK (I am not very adept at this). I did some searching online and saw that many had had this problem but I found no solution. So, I have turned the my friends here at the forum for help. Has someone had this problem and resolved it?

I encourage you to take a look at CAO tags. These things do an amazing job monitoring temperature and/or motion including from inside refrigerators/freezers. I love mine.

Am I just being paranoid or is something big afoot at Smarthome? They are currently running a 30% off sale. I checked a few popular models, and they are now out of stock. Synchrolincs can't be found anywhere. The IP camera tool will not "play" with my Insteon cameras and no software update has been forthcoming. The PLM is a disaster and they apparently show no interest in really addressing the problem. The company changed ownership and one must wonder where Smarthome is heading in the future. I am a big Insteon fan but I am beginning to take a hard look at ZWave. I look forward to reading your thoughts.

I agree, the PLM may be failing. Again, how old is it?
