Where ya' gonna' run to? Rpi, with it's SD card, that fails after X writes? and possibly user fees to support commercial sales and/or usage? An old PC that fills up with dust and requires a constant fan running, taking up a whole shelf full of support devices to access it? Try a price comparison with a few other HA boxes. Yes the hardware price jump seemed excessive but in comparison to the other box prices and support, not much to consider. No UDI boxes are not perfect but open enough and friendly enough for me. Don't like java? Maybe get rid of your vehicle then.

Native ISY doesn't poll devices. However NS devices are based on the code writer's choice. Insteon signals are all initiated by the end device and no polling should ever need to take place, middle of the night queries excepted.

"Control" detects the device pushbuttons have changed, while 'Status' detects the state of the electronics controlled from anywhere, has changed..

How often do you switch an On/Off module at the device that Control would detect it?

Try doing a Restore on that device. As I always understood it, Control and Status reports come in on different channels from an Insteon device and one link can be bad while others still work OK.

I think we were told about 5 years ago that the Admin Console would not get any more improvements, due to it being converted away from a java base. However, many features have been added since, to incorporate the billing structure and PGx items, so maybe not improvements, per se. If, and when, the AC ever gets using HTML5, CSS3+, and javascript, so many hackers will be creating their own versions and extensions to the A/C due to it's huge base of language educated people in the world.

The font size and button realestate thing seems to be a never ending problem. It seems the A/C was setup based on the wrong screen parameters right from the start. I am using a 1024 x 768 laptop and the size 15 font-size. I see this dilemna all the time here, If I go to a 4K monitor size, what? 2048 x 1932? then my font size becomes so small I can;t read it, so I increase my Windows magnification factor, or my A/C font-size and now we are back to the same problem again with some things not fitting on the monitor screen. Who ya' gonna' call? I just don't use the A/C to control things much anymore. I could write a program in ISY and operate something faster than find the device page button. (exagg) I am not a java basher but I see so much of it, and so many other newer language bases being raved about, but I doubt any have the long-term experience java does or the features java has built in. It is still number one in the vehicle and machine industry, AFAICT. Usually most of the hoopla is based on rumoured things that happened twenty years ago when the compiler was young. I have only dabbled very little with java, enough to make my CAO Tags write to ISY variables. Extremely advanced language but very foreign to me.

That's a lot of memory to store the 11 character string "fontsize =14" . I ran Admin Console on my 1 GB laptop for many years without problems. Now I can't use many of the device pages due to not being able to click many buttons/options being off the pages since V5.01. Size does matter.

I am not sure I understand exactly what these settings are doing. I don't understand java requiring 2GB of memory to remember the font size f an app written in java. Just really weird and I would hope that doesn't rob your system RAM of 2GB on a constant basis for an app some may run once every 3-6 months. However the factor you were stating is a limitation of memory usage (Max), which really raises a bigger question in my mind. Why would a max memory usage keep the font size in java any better? Better yet, why doesn't the admin console keep a setup file or some scene/font parameters inside ISY. It downloads everything else (icons and text boxes, pushbuttons) for two minutes every load. hmmm...seems like the admin console system needs a big overhaul, about 6 years ago now.

You can increase the size of memory java is permitted and it will last longer but that will be temporary also.

There used to be a delete all devices at the bottom of the devices page on the Windows amazon alexa webpage to delete things. Of course now you only get a QR code that takes your mobile phone to the alexa app on your mobile device. **SIGH**. ISY can do this internally. There is a notification option using a '@' prefix that creates a log. I am not using this system anymore but there were many posts telling how to do it. History is hard to find here and I am not at home so haven't searched for it.

If you haven't factory reset a new Insteon device before connecting to your ISY box , do it. This should always be done for any Insteon device, otherwise you have no idea what they will do in some cases. I have had statuses reporting backwards a few years ago. Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk

There shouldn't be a problem. However, I like to offset times to 5 to 10 seconds later, because there may be a lot of processing going on at top of the hours inside ISY machines. Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk

That would be a double contingency and not likely to ever be a problem unless having no water pressure could cause a problem. Having said that, closing the valve at each end of any water system/vessel can cause problems with built up pressure that has no place to go except to burst something in the system. I also suspect that with the ISY disappearing out of the formula the All-on problem has disappeared. It has been noted, in the past, that no other Insteon controlled systems ever reported this problem. I am not sure if that was true or not.

Alexa! I have half a dozen GH devices in my junk box and after using both I found GH made too many mistakes by using assumptions on what you said and what you meant to say. In the beginning AFAIC, GH was way ahead of amazon but later the Alexa speakers seemed to surpass GH and I discontinued usage of mine. Now I only use Alexa speakers, however their original intent seems to be slowly sliding into place, as they start to slip advertising into your home. You can disable most of the annoyances but, like every other business, they upgrade the software with new features and always enable them until you get annoyed enough to find the new option and disable it. We're just renting this equipment and have no rights to say what goes on it. LOL As another note: Amazon speakers (not the version 1) have another band they support and may attempt to allow outside connections to your WiFi service. Last I looked you can turn that feature off. It tries to create a network using two frequencies, 800 MHz and 400MHz. I can detect both on a scanner, when that feature is enabled. WE have been asking for a lot of language translations lately and the Amazon Show has been very useful showing the text along with the pronunciation. 8" is the smallest you want as the 5" is almost unreadable like a cell phone across the room would be.

Most don't like to be facing downward or in restricted confined spaces. This can be really bad for pot light styles mounted in insulated ceilings. I burnt my hand on one attempting to unscrew it. The face was fairly warm but the back side, once it fell into my hand, was extremely hot, and I had to toss it onto a chair and then race down the ladder to save the leather from being scorched. The heat drifting up into the electronics of downward facing bulbs, seems to be a problem and will shorten the life of the electronics. I prefer to use WiFi bulbs as they can be turned on at 1% without any problems. Insteon dimmed bulbs (or any externally dimmed bulbs) cannot typically be dimmed below about 15 to 20%. Note: With my Magic Home WiFi bulbs, and my own software, I found one position tended to disconnect from the WiFi on an annoying frequency. After switching several bulbs and experiencing the same problem, I discovered I could, and was, overdriving the downward facing bulb causing the electronics to fail due to overheating. I was illuminating the Cool White LED to 100%, and also the Warm White LED to 50%, simultaneously, giving 150% of the rating of the bulbs and over heating the electronics. Lowering the combination to 100% fixed the problem.

I remember we found if you unlinked the app for too long, and Alexa caught you, all the routines using the pseudodevices, may become disabled due to devices MIA. Short deletes and rebuilds seemed to be OK for device control mostly.

I had the same thing happening a few times, lasted for a few months and then started working again. However if you deleted your account connections or you deleted all devices in ISY Portal the routines all get disabled, after Amazon discovers the devices don't exist.
