  1. Very good point and that's one of the things my thermostats do as an internal function (and does't matter if its due to automation or not) and displays a message with minutes left until it will start again so the occupants don't revolt.
  2. Personally I would plan on that working. If you have a couple of devices handy, test it as soon as you're able. There are a number of "gottchas" with dual band insteon like metal j boxes blocking rf signals and switches in jboxes tend to lose range verus a plugin module. Plugging the insteon device for syncing the apartment on the circuit with a fridge, a/c, etc could have reliability problems. Point being if you're able to design around it, try to work around those problems. Paul
  3. While that's a reasonable conceptual approach, its a matter of the distance the rf signal has to travel, and what kind of building materials might block rf. What would be the ~ distance between where 2 closest dual band devices would be installed? Paul
  4. There's a polyglot nodeserver that controls the IO for an RPI. Not sure if that io interface technically meets your requirements, but that's a relatively small sized package to install. You can install the GPIO nodeserver from the polyglot store once you have polyglot installed. Paul
  5. Typically the router provides the secondary dns function. I’m trying to remember the last time I had a router that didn’t.
  6. There's not necessarily a right or wrong answer, its more about what you want to accomplish and capabilites of the thermostat. The capabilities of the Insteon thermostat are limited, where thermostats like the Venstar Colortouch and Ecobee are robust.
  7. I have venstar colortouch thermostats. It’s full featured from an hvac perspective including schedules, humidity and controlling stages. I do as much as possible on the the thermostat for reasons mwester pointed out. I don’t change temps with the ISY. Here’s how the ISY helps - gathering and tallying cycle counts and runtime stats for heat by stage, cooling and humidity. I use a customized Home Automation Dashboard HAD page to review it. This was more important a few years ago when I replaced my 2 hvac systems and also insulated and needed to see how runtimes changed. Also for tuning how to configure the venstars for triggering second stage. - fan cycling. I want to cycle the fans twice an hour for 5 minutes each during spring and fall when the systems don’t run much. When it’s really hot or cold out I want the fans on full time - my house is older and this helps hold the temp longer. But if key doors and windows are open, I want no cycling at all. - I have a keypad key by the back door to set “away” when leaving. I have the locative app on my phone that works through the ISY portal to set “home” when I’m back with ~50 miles so the house is ready when we’re back. - pushover notifications to my phone for fan and humidity pad replacements. Paul
  8. I remember this discussion recently
  9. This can be used with V4. You'll have to follow the link in post to Automation Shack and experiment a little to get it to do what you want. I've not used it, but I believe its intended for what you are trying to do. You will need a 24x7 linux/windows box to run it on. The same forum member / author has a v4 and v5 (nodeserver) for the webcontrol board, but it sounds like you've already set up control by web Paul
  10. I'll defer back to @TomL, I was suggesting debugging ideas based on the same symptoms setting up other nodeservers Paul
  11. Yes, I would try that next.
  12. The node server added Ring in slot 3. There are no nodes in device listing. Do I add each desired node include giving them and node and primary node address? If so is there a naming convention for these? No. Go to details in the Ring nodeserver and restart it. Paul

In addition to Ronvod’s comment, search the forum for ISY launcher to install the admin console on your PC
  14. It didn't hit me until now, Keypad keys have to be controlled by scenes, and can't be controlled directly. If you look at a key in the admin console there is no On or Off command for keys. Create a single device scene for the key and try turning that on and off with alexa Paul
  15. Glad its working! Paul
  16. This includes the directions for replacing the card and restoring your ISY
  17. It's not the keypad as a device. I have alexa controlling several keypad keys for lighting. I control the scene, not the actual button, but that shouldn't matter.

I use outletlincs in Michigan, outside with no problems. You can get a weather proof cover that also covers the plugs. There are on/off and dimmer versions Paul
  19. All zones have the same insteon ID address, plus a zone number. If you pick a valve in the admin console, and look at the very top of the admin console, under the device name is the address. Its been a while since I used an EZ, but I think there should be a single digit number after the insteon address xx:xx:xx # That should be it. Paul
  20. A suggestion is to have 3 programs: 2 programs manage capturing the "If sensor is switched on" for each sensor... and 1 disabled "sub routine" program that handles the wait and turn off the light: Catch "is switched on" from MS, then run disabled program 3 to count down and turn off light Catch "is switched on" from Door sensor, then run disabled program 3 to count down and turn off light Disabled program that waits, then turns off the light The last one that runs the disabled program 3 wins. Edit: having said that, configure the motion sensor to "send on commands only", let the ISY program 3 turn the light off Paul
  21. If you use ‘is switched on’ for the if clause, you won’t need to query it. Paul
  22. I have a program check for the low battery node to switch on and it sends me a notification. Pail
  23. You can go to Tools, Generate Topology. It takes a while, but it will eventually open a browswer window with a list of devices and scenes and that can be printed. Paul
  24. That’s a good point, they all have pluses and minuses Paul
