I would break it into a couple of questions/tests. Its possible Do you use Housecode J for X10? Housecode J and the Address/Function Status Request is all X10 bits set to On. As Brian points out, powerline noise can create this exact error and it can happen in houses that have no X10 at all. However, sometimes older X10 switches have problems and send beaconing traffic and need to be reset or replaced. First step, eliminate or confirm X10 devices as the problem Eliminate X10 devices as the culprit. Unplug or unwire (temporarily) any X10 devices and try turning the watering device on and off.. does it work correctly? If it works correctly after unwiring, the X10 device was the culprit... maybe unwiring and rewiring it will fix it... I've had it happen before. Temporarily disable any X10 related ISY programs, especially if they do status requests. Does it work correctly? Did disabling your programs makes the problem stop, you'll want to post them here and we'll try to help... If neither of the above fixed the problem and/or stopped the X10 J / Status Request messages, then your X10 devices are not the problem: move on to 2: Since it sounds like the watering device turns on consistently, but not back off, the load you are controlling to water is suspect of injecting noise. Is it a pump? Unplug the watering device and run the programs for a few days? Does it work correctly? If yes, and X10 messages disappear, plug the watering device into an Insteon Filterlinc Paul

Use control instead of status: And "DUSK TO DAWN-Dusk.Dawn" is switched On You can also put the Chandelier and Lamps in an Insteon scene an switch the scene on.. both will come on at exactly the same time Paul

The motion sensor provides a dawn/dusk node. Once you configure the sensor for the desired dusk level using the admin console (and putting it in set mode), the dusk node will switch on at dusk. This includes cases where a thunderhead blows through and its darker earlier than official dusk. 81 is what works for me. You'll need to adjust a few times to get what works for you. Here is a program I have that used. It use one of three ways to turn it on, whichever happens first Dusk sensor in a motion sensor Light level from the climate module from a local airport weather station Real sunset One of those three will turn the outside lights on. I also have it set so I can "double tap" one of 2 switches in the house to turn them on manually if I want to. Lights on Dusk If From Sunset - 45 minutes // I don't want them coming on too soon For 45 minutes And ( 'Yard / Premise Lights / Driveway Motion-Sensor-Dusk.D' is switched On // Have the ms turn it on Or Module 'Climate' Light <= 9 // go by a local weather station light level ) Or ( Time is Sunset + 4 minutes // use actual sunset ) Or 'Kitchen / Back Deck' is switched Fast On // I manually use my back deck switch Or 'Living Room / Front Door - Lamps / Front Door.Porch' is switched Fast On // I manuall use my front porch light switch Then Set 'Yard / Yard and Lamp Security / Yard Lights On' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

You don't need a second PLM per se, but any dual band device that allow the Insteon signal to traverse the legs. The only advantage of the PLM as a product is the Modem part; converting the serial to insteon messages and and insteon messages to serial so that devices like the ISY can communicate with the insteon network. Any dual band device can do the other PLC to RF duties. A another option is putting a signalinc bridge in the panel so the signals passively travel from one leg to the other with no hop count deductions

Roy Yeh I have one on my wife's nightstand for the attic fan so that's ok. Another for my lawnguy to keep in his truck. If a midday hot sprinkler cycle is running he can kill it. I was looking at getting 2 for sprinkler maint, but then I got the rainmachine and I can do that from my old phone/gps. I guess I always used the X10 remotes the same way and didn't get into the keyring part of it Paul

Roy There's been an insteon wireless remote for a while. I have several of them. I stopped using the palm pads and x10 keychains, etc, the insteon works from anywhere on my property, every time. While more expensive, a lot less fuss and much higher WAF Paul

Here is the procedure You need to keep in mind that the wireless devices need to be put in set mode, one at a time to update them to the new PLM address... the biggest PITA for this procedure. If you have the "Pro" ISY, there is an icon up top to tell it to defer updates to wireless devices... get all the wired/dualband things done first, then wireless... either bring them to a desk or go to them, depending on your preference. You may want to see if you have a good backup from before the PLM problems. Sometimes the ISY captures the info from the PLM in its "confused" state when its dying. I would try it first with what you have active now, but if that doesn't work have the backup ready to restore to use that PLM links table I keep a spare PLM too, you never know. Paul

I would think about using the replacement smartenit PLM. The 2412 PLM did not have the 2 year death cycle that the 2413s can have. While I've gotten a lot of years out of my 2413, there is plenty of evidence here on this forum of people disassembling and de-soldering 2413 to replace a $1 worth of capacitors that should never had been cheap to begin with. There's no evidence I've found that SH actually fixed the problem. It mind blowing in that I have original gen 1 lamplincs and inlinelincs from over 10 years ago working perfectly... its not a hard problem for SH to fix. If you are controlling something critical to your house, I would pick the PLM that's more likely to last. See if you actually need dual band. You can put a lamplinc or range extender nearby if you do. Paul

Insteon dimmers are Triac based and can have problems with certain types of lighting transformers. I put in 5 low voltage lighting transformers in 2007 and found somewhere in the docs that electronic transformers were required. The original inlinelincs dim those fine, I did have to put an XPNR on 2 of them because of the the noise they sent back down the line when dimmed. Paul

Same here. I manage to a schedule and not the notification... it avoids the low battery side effects for the original MSs. I have a list for all my battery based thingys (Insteon, Venstar, Simplisafe Alarm system) and review it in the spring and fall. I have the original model MSs and replace the batteries twice a year on a schedule... End of April and October. The door sensors usually go 2 years but I aim for 1 1/2 years and replace. I do have programs to send me a notification for the MS and open/close sensors, but they rarely get to that point. The MSs rarely send a battery low notification-- when its cold in the middle of winter.. but it bounces back when it warms back up. As they are outside I let it go Paul

Is the receptacle controlled via scene from an io_linc? Iolincs that that have trigger reverse can be triggered by the 3am query and their scenes triggered, and downstream devices activated/deactivated. If not, via a scene from another device type? Please describe how this unit is configured with insteon and other devices. Potentially a factory reset and "Restore Device" might help, but that's guessing in the backdrop of not knowing the full picture. Paul

The climate module is good, I use it. Primarily I use it for temp and forecasted rain where "close enough is ok" However I am depending on either: A hardened reliable airport type station that can be further away to be accurate for gusts right where you are...or.. (that's what I do) Someone else's local personal station that's not close enough either, or may not be working all the time For something that is for protecting an asset, I would recommend installing a local sensor. Some are using the weatherflow system, but you need to run ISY V5 (alpha/beta) software to run it. There may be other suggestions from members here for a personal weather station. Paul

If you've installed java on your pc, java will "take ownership" of the jnlp file extension when java applets are run. If that's not happening, something is wrong with installation of java on your PC. I would uninstall, then reinstall the latest java version I've run the ac on Win 7-10, I've not used a browser to start the admin console. Paul

Larry's right. Use Control rather than status. Each time the switch is switched, the 30 minute timer is restarted. Since its a basement, a suggestion is to dim the lights as a 5 minute warning before turning them off, so someone isn't really still in the basement isn't left "in the dark". I do this for second floor stairway lights. If its not dimmer, flash them on and off once or twice as a 5 minute warning Paul

If you followed the procedure for Java, that's the other thing i know of I'd submit a request to UDI and add a link to this post so they can see what you tried Paul
-
The change to your system you mentioned could be in the firewall/virus software. That can cause the symptoms you are seeing. You address that with the firewall/virus software by letting it accept the ISY as ok to run. Before trying your step 1, look at the firewall/virus package you have and make the suggested changes, before you try to launch the finder/admin console. Paul

Hi Denis Not a problem. Most virus scanning software are very wary of any java app. Take a look at this link and see if it helps Paul

The only caveat is that I've had cases were excessive line noise "confused" even dual band devices. I'm not suggesting a course of action different than lilyoyo, but currently the evidence does not exclude local line noise as a problem.

With the LEDs removed? If the LEDs are creating the noise that could explain it Paul

I know with my togglincs, especially one on the outskirts of my insteon network, ... they can "lose their marbles" and need to be factory reset, and then restored. Like every 3 - 4 years, more often if there is a power outage with brown outs. What you describe can also sometimes indicative of a noisy load problem. If the problem persists across several devices, it could be that. Is it an LED bulb, etc? Paul

Yes.. that's what I've said.... or, hey "what's one more language or OS"? That's why I suggested asking the polyglot folks or io_guy... if you can post the api tech reference from the company, and what you want to see in the ISY, someone may do it as its a value add to the ISY's node portfolio... eg, you will probably not be the only person interested Paul

I've been using it for 2 1/2 years. But I would start by checking the current v4 thread to see if the new sensor basic function work there. I think I've read they do, but not 100% sure.
-
I meant V5 of ISY firmware versus v4. I've seen comments that the support is a little different for the new sensor on the 2 versions.

I don't think its nefarious.. I think they are heads down on developing their Cloud API, . This "story" doesn't show up on their "backlog". I have to agree that the whole thing is just ridiculous. Its a standalone device with a specific message behavior set. I believe that Insteon firmware still can not be field upgraded... so "it is what it is"... Just tell UDI what "it" is

We have the same issue and litter box is in a bathroom with a fan. I've been considering putting an MS inside the litterbox. Like larry, my MS are all original model and haven't bought one in a while. Since I'm on V5 I'm thinking about getting one of the new ones at Menards. I know there have been trouble with it sending offs and settings... however what I'll do is create a program that sees if its switched on, and then run the fan for 20 minutes and then turns it back off... that will ignore the "off" commands. For this application, I don't care about the options or if I can set them or not Paul
