I do feel the need to use Alexa in several rooms. I have several accounts so that we can use "natural speech" as much as possible in each room.
-
The voice remote fits easily in a pocket and is handy when it's noisy, such as during a party or in the situation you mentioned, that is, in a crowded room with background noise and talking. It's not best for all around use.

The last step in your progression would be 6.25%. In any case, the progression you listed is not logarithmic.

Benoit is the ISY engineer for the Amazon Echo. As I indicated, three dim levels is the maximum that the Insteon protocol can be coaxed to. That standard is not likely to change. That Benoit actually got three levels in one command is an tribute to his expertise. Four or five or six is personal. There is probably no one level that would satisfy even a plurality of users, let alone most users

Hand held voice remotes (mics) are linked to a couple of our Echos.

It is a big deal if AI is to have intelligence. I don't ask my spouse to turn on the bedroom light if we're both in the bedroom, but I do if she's in the bedroom and I'm not.

There may be only the original solution you proposed, that is, controlling power to the unit. If there is one setting that you would leave it on when you want it on, for example, only one of minimum, maximum or recirculate, then set it to that mode and unplug it. Wait a minute or two and plug it back in. If the air handler returns to that setting, then you should be OK using an ApplianceLinc. That will not damage the unit. Consider that that's the same as setting the unit to a mode and then, after a while, turning it off, later returning to that same setting.

The RemoteLinc2 (now called the Min Remote) is an entirely different device. Its only similarity is that it's a battery powered controller. The Mini Remote is considerable smaller (great for your pocket or on the wall, not so great as a tabletop hand held remote) the has functions similar to, but not exactly like, a KeypadLinc. For example, the Mini Remote can be toggle or on-only, but you can't make that selection by button as you can with the KeypadLinc, It's all buttons or none. Too, the original RemoteLinc has an All On/Off function (only for devices that the remote is linked to), the Mini Remote does not have that capability. But, I've not experienced any difficulty adding it to the ISY. BTW, once I used the distance method to correct communication difficulties with the 2440 RemoteLinc, it has functioned as it should. No problems creating or modifying scenes nor controlling programs

Don't measure anything. What is the result at each position with each wire disconnected, that is, what functions, what doesn't, which indicators light, don't light at each posiition?
-
Leave the black and red connected. Disconnect the green wire. Flip the switch through Minimum, Maximum and Recirculate. What are the results? Reconnect the green wire, disconnect the yellow wire and run the same tests.
-
Doesn't the switch have four positions, O(ff), Minimum, Maximum and Recirculation, not just On and Off?
-
That's not true. The ISY can control Insteon devices, scenes and ISY programs through the portal. Having both devices can cause issues, but if you know what you're doing (i.e., what scenes do, how they work), then you can use both.

The colors correspond to standard HVAC colors. Measure the voltage between red and black. If it's about 24VAC, then yellow is the standard for cooling and green is for the fan. What did you find for the voltage?

The Daikin FFQ is a heat pump system. The 2441TH is not compatible with heat pumps. Which specific model thermostat is currently installed?

The original RemoteLinc usually needs to be very distant from the PLM in order to successfully add is (or establish communication if it's already added). Try adding (delete it first) or writing updates (e.g., red exclamation mark) from 30 or even 40 feet away from the PLM but within range of a dual-band device. BTW, this is a common problem and common solution for the 2440 RemoteLinc.

Never link devices manually when using the ISY. Instead, create a scene.

The new protocol does not eliminate the need for multiple accounts if you want the same spoken to have different results in different locations. It does eliminate the need to give the Echos different wake words if they're within earshot of each other. For example. I have two Echos in the bedroom that control the same devices/scenes/programs. If they have the same wake word. one repeats the response as an echo. That won't happen anymore. But, I still need different accounts to allow Alexa to "turn on the light" in different rooms without specifying which light.

larryflix is correct. A secondary button can respond only if it's a member of a scene.
-
That'll work if your program turns the scene that has the button as a member on and/or off . But if the program only controls scenes with no special condition other than on or off, then scenes are considerably more efficient.
-
A program won't change the state of a secondary button unless you control a scene that includes that button. Any particular reason that you're using a program (which introduces a delay) rather than a scene?
-
Several users, including myself, reported the same problem around the same time as a maintenance upgrade. Shouldn't have happened, but it did.
-
Like all battery powered devices, the Mini Remote can be a controller only. It cannot respond to anything, so it's state cannot be controlled.
-
I'm still on 4.5.1 and, as with previous versions, scenes are listed when you scroll down past devices.
-
Non-toggle for the Mini Remote is somewhat different than for a KeypadLinc. The latter offers both non-toggle on and non-toggle off, but the former has non-toggle on only. I use non-toggle on for uses where off has no purpose, such as our garage doors, entry gates and fan speeds. I do use programs to turn the fans off. Everything else is accomplished with scenes.

Does the Echo control a scene or just the device?
