Ok Stu, Excuse my ignorance... I have created that folder and added the laundry room motion detector to IF. But where and how should I program that the laundry light does not switch OFF if the detector detects motion ? Should I not use IF for the ceiling light, with the condition IF ceiling light is ON.... and then create a program that ignores the motion detector ? As you can see I am pretty confused

I know, and totally respect, that many on this forum are Insteon fans. I also started with X-10 & Insteon and may have chosen another hub than ISY were it not for my initial set-up. Our respective preference for Insteon or Zwave (or combination) depends very much on our personal needs and experiences. I have gone Zwave all the way and don't look back. I just noticed the new Homeseer switches, just got my automatic curtains working on Zwave, and I don't miss Insteon. But as I said, I fully respect those that still root for Insteon.

Of course Insteon does not have that issue because it is a monopoly.......

How would I do that ?

Ben, I do not know whether my solution works in your case, but try using the "shortcut" option in Google Home. In the GH App, click on menu (top left), then 'More Settings' and then all the way down 'shortcuts.

I would welcome assistance with the following. I have a motion detector in the laundry room of my apartment where the service elevator of the building is. The program that I want is when someone comes out of that elevator the light in the laundry room comes on for 2 minutes. However someone may be active in the laundry room and if that light was already on before the motion detector activates, I do not want the light to go off after 2 minutes. I have tried several programs and I even think that it worked for a time, but now I am lost. What would be a good program for the light to go on for 2 minutes, when activated by the motion detector, but only if the light was not on already when 'motion detected' ?

I am very pleased to report that Google Home has a feature allowing the user to create a shortcut. I made shortcuts that allow me to say "OK Google, close the curtains" and "Open the curtains". All that is missing is having the option, in the ISY Administrative Console, to use OPEN and CLOSE instead of OFF and ON.

I also posted the following elsewhere in this forum : https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/22725-automatic-curtains/page-2 I finally installed the automatic curtains ( http://automaticcurt...e-track-systems ) today and was able to make them work with ISY. It took some time because I had made a mistake in the width when ordering the tracks. The company gracefully cut the tracks to the right size. Be careful when measuring ! In order to connect (ZWave) the system with ISY you need the Mimo-lite and because i have double tracks I needed two Mimo-Lites. The company sells the cables to connect the system to Mimo-Lite but their documentation shows an incorrect wiring. It shows white-yellow-blue wires but their cable actually comes with white-black-blue. I mistakenly assumed that the black would replace the yellow, but that did not work. After trial and error, I finally found out that the correct wiring is blue-white-black. In the Administrative Console ON is curtain closed and OFF is curtain open. I believe that you can program so that the curtain opens partially but I have not done that yet.... and am not even sure that I need that option. The system is not very noisy but not super quiet either. Curtain Call, as the company likes to be called, has given me superb customer service, answering all my queries by email and by phone. I also added the tracks to ISY Portal ~ Google Home but right now I was only able to use ON and OFF instead of OPEN and CLOSE. Saying "turn the curtains On" is weird. Does anyone know how to program, in ISY Portal, so that I can use OPEN and CLOSE ?

Michel It is really my experience that my system slows down over time. What I mean with that is that, after a few months, when controlling lights in my AC a windows opens showing a percentage and it then takes a few seconds to react. This phenomenon disappears when I reformat the microcard and then restore the file. Over the past two years I may have done this about three times and each time the difference was noticeable.

For Google Home, OK Google Update my Devices or Synch my Devices....
-
My experience is that the error message is in fact an error .... I get the error message but the spokens are sent to my Google Home .

Michel I have no intention at all to perform a factory reset but out of pure interest, what does it involve when doing 3. Z-Wave | Exclude 4. Z-Wave | Include I do of course know what Z-Wave Exclude and Include normally do with a specific device, but if one already got rid of all Z-wave devices in 2. Z-Wave | Tools | Synchronize | All (get rid of any Z-Wave device in ISY) would steps 3. and 4. be repeated for each device, or just once without any specific device ? p.s. A few months ago I wrote that I did a factory reset (and you advised me against it...) but I now realize that it was not a factory reset. What I then did was to reformat the microcard in the ISY and perform a Restore. My experience has been that it helps speeding up the system by doing this once or twice a year.

It is in a plastic enclosure that I purchased at Home Depot. The existing box is metal but I punched out a hole to pull the wires.

Actually for three fans, I was able to use existing boxes. In one case I cut out the space in the drywall. The wiring was not an issue as the old regular switch controlled both the fan and the light. In other words I used where the existing switch was for the light control and the cut-out space next to it for the fan control.

Thanks Benoit, Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee

I seem to remember that the room function of ISY Portal and Google Home does not yet work. However you should be able to create a scene and give it a room name.

I look forward to further news on this. I was supposed to install my new Automatic Curtain system ( http://automaticcurtain.com/ )this Tuesday but I made the (stupid) mistake in giving the company the wrong size. I sent it back and they will re-size for me. Once they are installed, I hope to be able to control via Google Home and Alexa with "Open" and "Close".

Indeed very useful if I were to do the laundry at home ......
-
I just tried this and indeed GH responded with "synching with Samsung Home, Nest and Universal Devices"...... Amazing. P.S. I have my Samsung washer and dryer connected to GH but have no clue what use / benefit this gives

Inovelli may be working on a switch that incorporates both fan and fan light. I have 4 fans at my (Miami) home and in each case I carefully carved out a hole in the wall to add a switch, and I separately control fan and fan light. I am very well aware of the many Insteon fans in this forum (and respect their choice) but personally I have gone ZWave all the way and do not look back.
-
Very interesting.... I am not all knowledgeable about REST but I know how to work with IFTTT (from PORTAL to IFTTT). How would I create a command in IFTTT from my Nest to my ISY ?
-
Such as ? I only have ZWave devices and actually like ISY very much (*) , but would not mind having another hub as secondary. (*) Michel, Chris, Benoit's responsiveness and devotion are fantastic, and this forum adds tremendous value.
-
Gary, Please explain why one might as well abandon ISY if abandoning Insteon ? Do you consider that other ZWave hubs are better than ISY ?

In my case GH tells me that it is turning on 3 lights, but it in fact turns on (as it should) 7 lights
