  1. If you are going to use a separate PLM on the computer and with the ISY994i. You could use a 2413U on the computer if it only has USB Ports. Eliminating the need for a USB to Serial Adapter. The Quick Users Guide gives you the link to the 2413U's built in manufacturers USB IC's drivers page. There will be PLM ID links in your Insteon Modules from both PLM's Things may still get messed up. As the software on the PC and the ISY994i. Will not know what the other added to each module.
  2. I would not recommend using the same PLM on the ISY994i and other PC based software. Almost a 100% chance of messing up the Link Database in it with both links the ISY994i made and links from the PC software. Right now sold and shipped by Amazon 2413S PLMs are out of stock. One of their Amazon Marketplace vendors have it for $40.00. I got the latest hardware 2.3 2413S PLM from Amazon. Not sure if the Marketplace vendors is the latest revision. Smarthome has posted in the 2413S reviews. They changed some parts in the 2.3 revision for reliability.
  3. If you use the USB to Serial Port adapter and a 2413S. The custom DB9 to RJ45 serial cable should be packed in the 2413S shipping box. Though many times in the packing frame and missed by many users. Since there is no mention of it being hidden in the packing frame.
  4. The ISY99i and present model ISY994i. Only works with a 2413S or 2412S Serial Port PLM. There is no USB signals on the RJ45 Serial Port connector. The mini-USB Monitor connector on a ISY994i is for other purposes and not an interface to a PLM. If you are asking about a 2413U connected to a USB to Serial Port adapter and then the serial signals patched into an ISY994i. I believe there is no 5 volts DC on the 2413U's USB connector to power an adapter. Since it is the Down Stream square B type jack not the upstream A type jack.

Glad the module is back in business. OH yes. The screws are very small.
  6. You may want to open a support ticket with UDI. They are very responsive to problems and will do their best to assist you. Maybe pointing to this thread in the request may make things easier. http://www.universal-devices.com/contact-support/
  7. I also do one after any changes. When I update firmware. I do a backup just before the update and one after verifying the new firmware installed correctly.
  8. I downloaded udi_oadr_4.5.4.zip. Latest released version. In Windows it is reported to be 6.51 MB. If you are using an operating system that automatically Unzips files that can be a problem. As the original zip file is needed for installing the firmware.
  9. The ZWave version of your firmware will allow the ISY994i to run with no PLM attached. Even with no ZWave hardware board installed. It just ignores the no PLM attached test findings and going into the Safe Mode for protection. I can't say if your particular setup would function with the ZWave version of the firmware. Since you have done a complete reset. I guess you could try it.
  10. If you have the ZWave hardware module installed and want to control ZWave devices in your setup. The ZWave version of your present firmware does not go into Safe Mode with no PLM attached. When in the safe mode you are prevented from doing anything that would effect the setup and most likely why you are getting the errors. Be careful. Bypasing the Safe Mode could let you mess things up worse. I doubt anything but ZWave features would work. Do you have a good backup? As a Factory Reset looses everything and you have to start from scratch.
  11. The latest PLM I got recently was a V2.3. C7 and C13. are now 100uF/50V Fujicon capacitor. My V2.1 has 100uF/35V Mounted parallel to the PCB and fastened with component glue. Too large to fit in PCB Pads location vertically. Also the serial interface IC on the serial daughter board has been changed. It is now a TI brand MAX232EI. { My hardware 2.1 has a ST232 }. The TI MAX232EI meets the IEC61000-4-2 ESD Protection Standards on the RS232 I/O Pins to the outside world.

You may want to look at what is in the kit linked to in an earlier post. All the parts are in the kit. http://cache-m2.smarthome.com/manuals/2401al6%20manual.pdf They also have an 8 button kit if yours is 8 button. http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2401wh8-8-button-change-kit-for-keypadlinc-white.html
  13. I don't think the detected model is incorrect. I believe both models have the same Category and Subcategory Insteon ID when detected by the ISY994i. Load Sensing in this case is for Local Control. If the module is Off and you toggle the loads own power switch Off and then back On. The module will turn On with out an Insteon or X10 command. My older firmware v.28 do not send a message back to my ISY994i when Local Control is used. Your v.38 maybe similar. IMHO. It isn't a direct replacement and may not be possible.
  14. RS232. Older PLM's have a ST232 chip for the RS232 signals. It also has the TTL logic level I/O on different pins but it doesn't look like they thought much of protecting the TTL signals in the design. The latest V2.3 has changed the chip to a TI MAX232E that meets the IEC61000-4-2 ESD protection requirements. The last post in the long PLM repair thread. I posted what I found in the V2.3 PLM's I believe the ISY994i takes into account the serial signal pins needs. As all of mine came with a standard 3' patch cable. No fancy cable pinout's. If you are interested in the schematic of the Serial Board it is in the developers guide. http://cache.insteon.com/developer/developer-guide-022009-en.pdf The guide is for the original 2412S 417 Link Database. U3 is a 24LC128 in the large Link Database 2412S U3 is a 24FC64 in a 2413S and F1 is not installed. To remove the unregulated 12 volt from pin 2 of the serial connector.
  15. Another reason to use only the three serial signals. The TTL signals are not very well isolated from the outside world in a PLM. The logic level signal to the RS232 IC transmit input is also brought directly out of pin 2 of the connector. No buffering at all. Accidentally ground it and you effectively kill the transmit data. The TTL input on pin 6 of the connector and the logic level receive signal from the RS232 IC are isolated from each other by two 1N4148 diodes. Into the main board. If you accidentally ground pin 6. The receive data is effectively killed.

I would suspect the new Heat Pump is the issue. May have some electronic controls that are making line noise or the board has a big fat AC capacitor across the power feed to kill noise. That type cap will also kill Insteon Power Line signals.
  17. The upgrade from an ISY99i to ISY994i is still being offered on their sales page. So I would also suggest contacting UDI for the upgrade offer and looking at the sales page for details. https://www.universal-devices.com/sales/
  18. Only three wires are used for the serial signals. No handshake connections on the Serial Port connector of the PLM. From the quick guide and Modem Developers Guide. 1 RS232 Out to PC Pin 2 (RX) 7 Common 8 RS232 In from PC Pin 3 (TX) Note Pin 3 is a TTL Level Output (from PLM) Pin 6 is a TTL Level Input. (to PLM) Not too sure how well they are protected from noise.

You may want to look at this thread here. I found some differences in the different hardware revisions of the I/O Linc. Maybe a hardware issue adding to the problem you are seeing. http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/21417-io-linc-hardware-differences-between-revisions/
  20. Maybe the original was discontinued. Smarthome does list a external power supply for the 2441ZTH and it looks different than the one I remember. http://www.smarthome.com/5v-dc-power-supply-insteon-wireless-thermostat.html
  21. The Insteon Wireless Thermostat is not connected to the HVAC wiring. It uses Insteon RF linked to another Insteon Module. It is 2 AA Cell battery operated or there is an optional 5 volt DC wall wart made for it. HVAC control voltages are normally 24 Volts AC and not for the wireless thermostat power requirements.
  22. Not surprised about the same life expectancy. Most of the Smartenit modules are built on the same base 2413 PLM board. With the same power supply issues. The 2450 I/O Linc has a different board in it but uses the same small switching supply IC and questionable filter capacitors. I have seen three different sized capacitors in one capacitor location, between early and later hardware versions. Though over kill the EZIO8SA has eight heavy duty relays in it but also needs its own PLM to function.
  23. Smartenit also makes a 4 relay output module. I originally thought might work but it has a small current capacity relay of .5Amp. So it may not be suitable. http://smartenit.com/product/iot4r/
  24. I believe the EZflora has triac outputs. So AC only. Also only one output goes on at a time.
  25. Michel; Unfortunately I am not surprised by your statement on the Motion Sensor II Developers Notes. I saw a active developer on the Smarthome Forums. Also looking for the Motion Sensor II Developers Notes. Indicating his contact keep promising to sent them. Every week nothing was sent.
