Echo Dot Stops Responding - New Mystery Devices Showing in Alexa App
tmorse305 replied to hbskisurf's topic in Amazon Echo
Same problem with my devices. If I say Ask ISY turn on device X it works. This started to happen in the last few hours. -
The Trane link you provided shows that you have a heat pump system so you need a heat pump thermostat. http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2732-242-thermostat-for-heat-pump.html

That is very interesting, thanks for sharing the links. I found this on Google: http://market.firstbuild.com/products/greenbean

Hi Teken, I'm glad you asked that question. The cooling and drying aspect of the water heater is a bonus I forgot to mention. I have the unit in my basement and since I started using it I no longer have to run a dehumidifier. I have ~2300 sq ft unfinished basement. The temperature year round runs in the low 60's. As for noise, its pretty quiet, mostly fan noise you have to really listen up close to hear the compressor. Tim

Hi Teken, The IFTTT worked perfectly, now I can say “Alexa turn boost on” and run a 4 hour program which at the end returns it to Hybrid mode. Makes the wife happier, now she can turn it on without my help. The GE IFTTT channel offers direct recipe to Alexa but there is no way to implement a timer to shut it off later. To answer your other questions, I have a GE Heat Pump Water Heater, made in USA. (http://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-specs/GEH50DEEJSC ). It was a replacement for a Bosch HPWH that only lasted 2 years. The GE has been in operation for about a year, and so far is trouble free and works as expected. It has a Phone App that allows you to change the operating mode, the tank temperature, and to put it in vacation mode. It also sends notifications for maintenance and error messages if something goes wrong. The operating modes are a combination of HP and Electric water heating. See below on your specific questions 1. Does the appliance actually tell you the tank temperature and is it accurate? No it only displays the set point. 2. Does the HWT track energy, water, and draw usage and show your history? No none of that, I was disappointed that it didn’t offer a way to track at least HP vs Electric. 3. Can this Smart appliance be controlled locally without the aid of the cloud? The control panel on the front can be used, but I’m sure the Phone App talks to the cloud. BTW the WiFi capability does not come with the appliance. You have to purchase a module to enable remote control (~$40) 3. Does the unit operate in a fail safe vs fail secure mode should there be a failure of the electronics? Nothing states that it does and thankfully I haven’t had a problem yet. On my Bosch the HP was the problem and it automatically switched over to Electric when the HP quit working. I would hope this one does something similar. What kind of alerts can be had and what do you think about them? The app has 3 categories of alert: Major, Minor, and Maintenance. So far no alerts. I wish the Bosch had alerts. I had no idea that the HP died and the control panel gave no indication, so this is a big step ahead of my old one. If you had to do it all over again would you buy this smart appliance? Yes What is the total cost for this unit and what capacity do you purchase? $1000 plus a few hours of labor to install. That price does not reflect retail; the dealer gave me a better price after the Bosch failed so soon. I have a 50 Gal, it also come in an 80 Gal version. I have a special needs daughter who needs a bath daily, in retrospect I probably should have bought the 80 Gal. Is this device energy star rated and is yours a NG vs Electric? Yes, Electric Does it offer leak detection? No Does it offer vacation and custom scheduled modes for time of day, week, months? Vacation mode only, that’s why ISY control was desirable. Is there an emergency over ride should the electronics fail? No, not obvious or documented in the user manual. I phrase it that way because I learned from the Bosch Tech access to special menus using multiple key presses. There may be something similar on the GE. Tim

Thanks Teken, I didn't realize that there was an IFTTT for GE. Great news! Tim

Does anyone know if there is a way to get ISY to communicate with GE's ConnectPlus? I'd like to be able to control my water heater setting via my ISY. Thanks, Tim http://www.geappliances.com/ge/connected-appliances/geospring.htm

Add the parenthesis to all 3 programs and let us know if that changes the behavior
-
You need to add parenthesis around the 2 motion sensor conditions. For example: If (Control 'Devices / Motion Sensors / MS DHall LR' is switched On Or Control 'Devices / Motion Sensors / MS DHall Stairs' is switched On) And From 10:30:00PM To 7:30:00AM (next day) Do the lights only flash when triggered by the motion sensors, or do they flash when you manually turn them on?
-
It looks like the white wire was in the proximity of an electrical component that failed and got coated by the material that sprayed out. Could there be a fault in the fan's light circuit that caused an overload?
-
Do you have the ISY Portal Installed and Configured?

I had trouble with Roger. Frequently when giving HA commands Alexa would get stuck on OK, OK, OK, OK... until I finally killed the app. Now I use the FIRE TV app which works well for HA. The only issue is no audio feedback if you're away from the TV, but for what I usually use it for, seeing the result (the light turns on) is good enough.

Thanks for your reply Benoit, I tried swapping names. You're right, if I call my shade 'Bar Light' it works perfectly with open and close commands. I tried 'shade', 'shades', 'window', 'window shade', 'blind', none of them work, even when assigned to a device. I wonder if Amazon has some words 'reserved' somehow or words they are taking different action with so they never make it to UDI. Thanks again for helping to troubleshoot this with all of us. Tim Edit: Reply from Amazon on this issue: This is Steve from the Echo Team. I'm sorry your Echo s only picking up certain commands for controlling your window shades. Currently, Alexa can only understand the "turn on" or the Turn off" commands. We're working on adding more commands to Alexa's vocabulary for connected home devices, and, as soon as this is implemented, we will let you know about the updates on the Alexa app.
-
Thanks for looking into it Benoit, Wow, picky indeed. Based on your suggestions I simplified my device name to 'shade'. I then could 'close' the shade reliably but never 'open' it no matter how many times I tried. I went back to the portal and added 'shades' as an alternate name. Close always works, open never. I attached the history from Alexa, you can see the vocal command is being interpreted correctly, except for one time where it heard 'shape' instead of 'shade'. The behavior is very inconsistent. There is never an error message back from Alexa just the error tone. I'll be curious what other users experience. Tim Edit: I also found 'open'ing and 'close'ing scenes instead of 'on' and 'off' works every time. Does Alexa know the difference between a scene and a program? That might suggest a different problem.
-
Has there been any follow up by UDI on this question? Open and Close do not work on my programs either but it would great if they did as I'm controlling shades too. It's odd that it works only for Scott. Hopefully UDI can tell us whether it should work for all of us. Thanks, Tim

One Dot on order, both Echos updated this afternoon to 3202

I tried to just reboot the ISY and it did not work.. I had to reboot modem, router, and ISY then it was ok. It seems to much of a coincidence that so many people had this problem over night. I'm in New England so I doubt a t-storm in Florida impacted me. I think something else was the root cause, perhaps at the portal since that is common to all of us. Just a thought.

I didn't try to control the zones. The log in is different than the ISY. I contacted RainMachine, they are working on native integration with Echo but its not ready yet. However the default setting appears to be 'enable' for Echo integration... To disable you have to log into the device via a web app not the phone app and clear the check mark on Echo integration. I had never logged on via a browser. I have always used the phone app. There are a lot more settings available from the web page. So I'm all set and the good news in all of this is that they are working on native integration.

I turned on my rain machine a couple of days ago and when I ran discover devices today, Echo picked up all the programs and zones, identifying all of the as WeMo switches! Echo support was no help. RainMachine is password protected and stand alone in my system, but somehow Echo got in. Has anyone seen this happen? Thanks, Tim

I have been using Locative (IOS) for a week or so and I have not noticed any change in the battery life of my iPhone 6+. I could not get geo-fencing to work with a direct ISY connection.
-
Hi Bob, When you are running a direct connection to ISY through DynDNS, are you just using the geo-fence notification on your phone, or do you actually have your ISY performing an action based on the geofence variable? I tried direct connection to the ISY and while my phone notifies me of the geo-fence changes, the ISY variable is not updated. Thanks, Tim
-
Thank you for the reply Michel, Perhaps I didn't understand the context of your reply to Drexx3 that I quote. His issue was geo-fencing worked with direct ISY connection but not with the ISY portal. I'll use the wiki solution or just stay with a direct connection to keep geo-fencing. Regards, Tim

Reading this thread and the Wiki regarding GeoFencing there seems to be a some contradiction. The Wiki says that GeoFencing on Mobilinc will not work with the ISY Portal. But this thread suggests that maybe it should. I have my Mobilinc direct connected to ISY and GeoFencing works correctly. Does anyone know for sure? I thinking of switching the ISY Portal, getting tired of asking Alexa to tell Mobilinc.... I don't use the Notifications but the GeoFencing is a great feature. Thank you, Tim
