Can't get a 2443 (Access Point) to link to 994i

Hello!

 

I have an ISY994i w/ a 2413S PLM, and I was able to link a iMeter Solo (2434A1) with no problem.

 

But, when I try to link a 2443 Access Point (sticker says it's "V2.A"), it acts like it's going to link, but errors out:

During this (before hitting "Finish") the dialog lists it as:

After pressing "Finish", it goes through the "Initializing System" motions, but then I get a popup in the java app that says:

 

The following devices could not be added:
1F.41.D2 Unsupported Device:0.11
  -  Cannot determine Insteon Engine

Help? :-)

By the way: I may just be a complete moron, and not even need to link them... I mean, I have two APs (to bridge phases), and they seem to link to one another just fine... I was just assuming I could/should also link them to the 994i so that they are in my topology... no?

You should not link Access Points to ISY since they are passive devices only for routing purposes.

Shouldn't there be a simple way to have them show up as inventory, thus allowing for detection of device failure ( or it is was unplugged by your kids/wife/etc... ) without having to physically locate and verify .

Access Points have no functional capability where they could be considered On or Off. Don't know what the ISY could do to know the device was no longer functional. They are not linked to other devices. The Access Point specs do not even indicate the existence of memory for linking.

As a point of clarification, in case it is not clear from the other responses: access points do NOT link to each other.

 

You should not link Access Points to ISY

 

Also a point of clarification: I would go one step further...not only SHOULD ONE NOT link access points, one CANNOT link access points.

That does, however, seem like a good idea. If only it were possible.

The number of additional Dual Band devices makes no difference. As oberkc indicated, initiate the 4 tap Set button test at one Access Point and look at the LED blinking and LED color pattern on the other Access Point. I suggest doing the test in the opposite direction to be sure there is good RF in both directions. The test will take a few minutes at most.
