fba Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi all, I'm a newbie to the ISY, but there is some functionality that I would like to see added. Many of these I have posted in other threads, but I figured I would centralize the list here. 1. Support for the Garage Hawk (but only if the support can be use without the remote module) -- I have seen the old threads about this, and realize this request is probably not going to get any love. But, I'm throwing it out there just in case. I already have a Garage Hawk and would love to use it. The main feature it has that I like is the ability to only close the garage. (It won't allow remote opening.) Right now, I am not using that functionality, which is why the wires to the sensor will probably be cut today and put in to an IOLinc. But, I like that feature. For those of us that are paranoid about our garage being left open, this is a wonderful device! 2. Backlight on/off control for the KPL. -- I know some of this can be done currently, but there is an Insteon direct command that will completely darken the face of the KPL. I think this would be handy for several different use cases, including darkening the face completely when it is in a bedroom and it is time to sleep. 3. Battery status -- This one probably belongs in the Z-wave section of the forum, but it also fits as a feature request. I currently have one battery power device (A schlage lock) with a second one on order. I don't know enough about the Z-wave spec to know if battery state is part of the standard, or a vendor extension. However, when I used the Vera for Z-wave control, it had the ability to read the state of the battery in the device and display it. It could also use the state in a program, so I could say something like "if the lock's battery is below 3%, then send me a notification that I need to change the batteries". Not knowing the battery state of battery powered devices is one of my biggest complaints. 4. Battery status on Insteon -- A couple of the battery powered Insteon devices can send an on/off status on a different group id when the battery gets low. (I think the motion sensor is one of them.) It would be nice to be able to get those events. -- As an aside, I only have triggerlincs configured so far, so it is possible that this capability exists for the motion sensors and this is a stupid request. But, in general, I'd like the ISY to notify me when it is time to change the batteries on my battery powered devices. 5. Operation without the PLM plugged in -- This is another Z-wave one. I was having trouble including my schlage lock yesterday, so I decided to haul the ISY out to the garage to make sure it wasn't an issue with only including on low power. Since I wasn't going to use the PLM, I didn't bring it with me. However, when I attempted to set the Z-wave module to listen for new devices, the UI didn't do anything. When I dragged the PLM out an hooked it up to the ISY, I was able to use the Z-wave options again. I'm guessing this is a known issue already, but figured I'd list it.
fba Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 And, one more... 6. The ability to add devices using mobile apps. -- I don't know if this is an API issue, or a mobile app issue. But, MobiLinc appears to only allow adding X-10 devices. Since I migrated to the ISY from an older controller, I have a bunch of triggerlincs installed on each window in my house. Hauling my laptop around to put each on in linking mode and then add it has been a pain. It would be great if I could have used my phone instead. The same thing with Z-wave devices. It would be nice to be able to put the z-wave module in include mode from my phone and monitor the status of my attempts on the phone. (In my ideal world, there would be nothing that can be done from the admin console that can't be done from my phone.)
Michel Kohanim Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi fba, First of all, thanks so very much for the feedback. Indeed appreciated. Hi all,1. For those of us that are paranoid about our garage being left open, this is a wonderful device! Noted ... alas not very likely. 2. Backlight on/off control for the KPL. -- I know some of this can be done currently, but there is an Insteon direct command that will completely darken the face of the KPL. I think this would be handy for several different use cases, including darkening the face completely when it is in a bedroom and it is time to sleep. Is this a different command than the backlight command we already use which has %off/%on? If so, I have not seen it at all. There's no battery level property in INSTEON battery operated devices. This said, most have a Node (called Low-Bat) which you can use in Programs to send you notification when the battery is low. For 994i Series, without the PLM, ISY goes into safe mode and thus the issue. What you might want to try is to install the Z/ZS firmware instead. Those do not go into safe mode if the PLM is not plugged in. Thanks again and with kind regards, Michel
Michel Kohanim Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi fba, This one I totally agree with. All our APIs support these features. Unfortunately no 3rd party app has decided to use them. With kind regards, Michel
PurdueGuy Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi fba…welcome! I believe the KPL LED status light is what I referred to here: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11348&p=95431&hilit=led#p95431 Unfortunately, it is not supported currently, since the ISY needs to know what all buttons are. The documentation says it targets a specific button, but it doesn't actually seem to do that.
MWareman Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 All our APIs support these features. Just to clarify, does the REST API support adding devices, or do you have to resort to SOAP for this? I'm pretty sure you still have to use SOAP for this, and many other functions. If you can with REST, has the documentation been updated? I know you are still working on adding functionality to REST.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Hi Michael, SOAP only. This said, if REST would make it easier to develop UI, it's really not difficult to also support REST. With kind regards, Michel
Big517 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I'm surprised Mobilinc or eKeypad doesn't support adding devices. Can this feature be added into the web gui?
MWareman Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Hi Michael, SOAP only. This said, if REST would make it easier to develop UI, it's really not difficult to also support REST. With kind regards, Michel Michel, That's exactly my 'need'. REST is much easier to implement client side, and I'd like to be able to do more with it. Currently, I'm pulling nodes into a sqlite database then looping thru them one at a time making a soap call to get the 'IsLoad' attribute. This is just my first need for SOAP. I do want to be able to do more, like adding devices, adjusting scene members etc via REST if possible. I just get the feeling that a much more complete REST interface will lead to more mobile apps supporting device and scene management. Just a feeling though. I'd really love it if its possible to incrementally add new REST commands as new releases drop... Just add their details to the wiki page with the minimum supported version for the call. Eventually, it will be possible to build a mostly functional JavaScript only admin tool, allowing administrative tasks from devices where there is no Java support (IOS, Android, Windows RT) - or during times Apple have blacklisted Java.. Michael.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Hi Michael, Thanks so very much for the feedback. Our 5.0 framework (with a lot of enhancements) should be a very good candidate for moving more of SOAP commands to REST. We all agree that we'll eventually need to move away from Java. Hopefully more REST commands would allow others to implement more of the Admin Console in HTML5/Websockets. With kind regards, Michel
MWareman Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Great to hear! Looking forward to today's drop, picking up my Z-Wave adapter from the post office and beginning my exploration. I'm sure I'll either be quiet for a while, or will have many more questions..
Michel Kohanim Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hi Michael, Thank you! Sorry it took so long for the firmware release. We should have it released within the next couple of hours. With kind regards, Michel
