edokid
Hi everyone, I bought a new fan in my guest room so bought my first Fanlinc. It was pretty easy to install, followed the directions exactly, and am pretty confident it was done right. Was a bit hard fitting the big box in but made it work. I then installed a KPL on the wall to control the light and the fan speeds. I'm having an issue though in that if the KPL is turned off, it cuts the load so the Fanlinc won't work. So for example, if it's off, I press On on the KPL. It clicks like it's on, but nothing happens for about 2 seconds, then the Fan light turns on. If I press High, Med, Low etc those control the fan as expected as I made scenes in the ISY for them all. If I press off though, the fan stops as does the light, however it cuts the load. So if I wanted to turn the fan on from my phone, or press like Fan High on the KPL, nothing happens. I have to press on first, wait a second and then I can use the other KPL buttons to control the fan. That seems to be expected behaviour since a switch stops power from going to the light, therefore you can't control the fan etc. Am I supposed to not wire the KPL into the load and instead wire the load permanently on and then use the KPL on/off as a scene to turn the Fan light on and off? I followed this http://support.insteon.com/customer/portal/articles/1841919-isy-configuring-keypadlinc-with-fanlincbut it didn't really say anything about what's happening. Thanks! Link to comment
BamBamF16
The fanlinc needs to be wired for power all the time, ie never switched. The KPL will be at via scenes or programs to control the fanlinc. Link to comment
LeeG
The Red KPL load wire is not connected to the FanLinc. Just as a LampLinc is always powered by 120v and turned On/Off by Insteon messages from a different Insteon Controller, same with the FanLinc. FanLinc is always powered by 120v with the FanLinc Light and FanLinc Fan controlled by Insteon messages from another Controller, KPL buttons in the case. The KPL Main (8 button) or KPL ON/OFF (6 button) can control the FanLinc Light by having the KPL button a Controller of a Scene with the FanLinc Light the Responder without the KPL Red wire connected to FanLinc. edokid
Thank you! That's what I was hoping it was. If I had to take the fan down again I think it would be safe to say I'd be cutting my losses haha. Link to comment
stusviews
You don't need to take the fan down. Disconnect the load wire going to the ceiling box from the red KPL wire and connect the load wire to the line wire. Cap the red KPL load wire. Link to comment
edokid
Thanks that I know, I meant I'm glad the issue is that and not that the Fanlinc was wired wrong. If I had to take the fan down I'd prob just leave it as is. It's working now, thanks! Link to comment
