cannot load admin console...?

Recommended Posts

my computer is unable recognize isy994i using firefox / win 10 with java 8 (cache cleared)  getting app error message: classnotfound exception! com.universaldevices.client.ur.udclientapplet.class

help please :)  I'm getting no where and I've been working on this for 2 days :(

I'm trying to install with an insteon PLM serial 2413s but it is NOT connected to the isy yet.

i have downloaded the admin.jnlp to the desktop but it will not open to anything.

i have tried to open on firefox (47.0.2) https://www.universal-devices.com/99i and after the java does it's swirling circle, that is when I get the above error message.

any advice?  all I want to do is replace my insteon hub that has yet again died and I sick and tired of it doing that!  I read that this is the wonder toy!  :)

Thank you all for your time!  I do appreciate it!!!

Hi, welcome to the UDI forums!

What you want to do is:

  • Download the java application direct to your computer.
    • Put the icon on your desktop... use it to launch the admin console
    • I keep mine on the desktop where its easy to get to
    • Do not launch through the browser links
  • If that gets the admin console working, be sure your ISY has the latest firmware
    • Got to help / automatically upgrade firmware to get your ISY to the latest

Give that a try and let us know if that got you going

I had this same issue on my Win10 machine.

Like paulbates said, save the dashboard & adminconsole JNLP files on your desktop.  Then you need to associate those .JNLP file extensions with the Java Web Start Launcher (javaws.exe).  I found my "javaws.exe" executable in my "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_151\bin" folder.

You can make this association by right-clicking on the dashboard.jnlp file, and select "properties".  then in the "Open with" option, click "change" and go find the "javaws.exe" file.

Good luck!

Although this message doesn't help. I can get to the Dashboard using Windows 10 with Chrome, but not to the Administrative Console. The message I get is, "Java 2+ Required."

BTW, "latest version is somewhat ambiguous. It's best to state the actual version you have installed B)

I thought this was going to work.  But I have a Mac.  My admin.jnlp goes nowhere, though it looks like it is opening with a splash screen but then it stops.  It is trying to open with Java Web Start.app  But I guess I am supposed to get it associated with a different application?

FYI - I have cleared the cache and downloaded the jnlp file.  To even get the splash screen I have to right click on the file from inside the Finder.  But again nothing is put on the desktop.  Of course, I can drag the file to the desktop but that is not the actual application.

Update: I tried to open the jnlp file directly from the Java Console however it also did nothing...

I put a shortcut on the desk top but that didn't open either.  ...

I looked at the data file associated with the jnlp file but I don't read this language.  Maybe it makes sense to someone??

Anyway.  I have not been able to look at the admin console for quite a long time.  But alas, I need to get in there to fix something.

It is the second step that is not working.  I can right click and ask it to open, and it acts like it is going to do something but then nothing gets placed on the desk top.  What image file can I use for this forum.  I can share the images in the Java console.  It shows that the application exists (size 4121kb) but in the 'status' column it is 'unlinked'.

I think this could be a great system.  But from the half-assed way that the java console is launched to the half-assed way that the program UI is setup, it really falls short of being a great system.

Why, in the 2020's, is a java program launched this way?  Why isn't there a webserver directly on the controller itself?  If a raspberry pi can run linux and many other things, this box should be able to that and more.  Especially for the price!

Java is not related to webpage servers. Many vehicles and industrial equipment use java without needing webpage servers or browsers. That may be the future of polisy someday but not yet.

The admin console was not created to be a user remote control box but rather a setup medium for a home automation system to only be needed when programming needs to be changed.
