What is ZWave Multi Channel, Does ISY Support?

Need to control Curtains and bought the mimo2+ but only able to control one relay. Says need multi channel zwave controller. Does/will ISY support?

Also just bought Vision curtain control but afraid will have the same issue.

What’s your guys thoughts? Running 4.62 but ready to upgrade to 5.0 if that will solve my issue.

There is no schedule.

Per conversations in many other threads, UDI have not committed to any dates, nor to any specific functionality in any specific timeframe.  Based on the past -- >2.5 years since 5.0 began development -- it seems wise to find another solution rather than just wait.

My solution is to leverage one of the great strengths of the ISY -- it's open and easily integrated into other solutions.  So, I've moved my difficult and contrary :-) z-wave devices to an alternate z-wave controller, and integrated that with the ISY using network resources and the ISY REST interface.  I've adopted Home Assistant (https://home-assistant.io/ ) along with an Aeon z-wave USB stick.  I needed the stick anyway to update the firmware on some of my other Aeon z-wave devices, and home-assistant runs on one of my always-on Raspberry Pi systems that used to be used for node server development -- so it was pretty much a zero-out-of-pocket investment; your situation may be different.

It's rather challenging to get the z-wave stuff working on home assistant; I kept getting distracted by "shiny features" :-D  One of the great things I discovered was that HA seems to understand the "HAIL" z-wave feature, which effectively provides "Instant Status" for a lot of devices that couldn't do that feature due to the patent issues... so I actually ended up moving more z-wave devices off the ISY than I had planned.  Responsiveness of the HA device is nearly instant (unlike programs on the ISY, not sure about the new in-the-ISY-scene-magic performance, since I've not used that).  And where it's necessary, it's easy to have the HA stuff run a script to update a variable on the ISY (which is how I choose to make the two interact).

Bit the bullet and upgraded to 5.0.11b and still only showing one relay. Any idea when ISY will support MultiChannel Command Class used by MIMO2+?

5.x is alpha - not complete yet.

That being said - do you remove and re-add the device since you upgraded? 5.0.11 should support multi-channel in a generic way at least...

Thanks for the info, im with you... I give up on getting zwave devices to work with the ISY.  Will need to brush up  on my REST commands but assume I can send a command from a insteon keypad or isy program to the Aeon zwave to execute an action, correct?

Short answer: yes, you can make events on the ISY result in actions on HA.

I try to avoid that, however.  My strategy is to try to make everything work with the ISY, first.  If doing that is not practical or possible, or if it's too expensive, then I'll consider using another automation controller.  I also try to avoid crossing automation protocol boundaries in the same part of the house -- what I mean by that is best illustrated by example: the kitchen and dining rooms are all Insteon, and all controlled by scenes, so everything in that part of the house will work regardless of the state of the ISY or any other controllers.   Most of the z-wave devices are also on that same ISY -- all the door sensors, the multi-sensors, and the garage door controller, as well as half a dozen plug-in appliance controllers and dimmers.  Those devices are all managed by ISY programs, and none are automating things where the delay is objectionable (and in many cases, what they automate is not critical so a malfunction is not objectionable).  That leaves a small handful of problematic z-wave devices -- and these all ended up on the second floor.  As a result, these z-wave devices don't interact with the ISY-controlled things in any significant way.

My current integration strategy between Home Assistant and the ISY is simplicity itself -- even if somewhat crude.  I have a python web app running that creates files in a folder based on incoming REST calls.  The ISY uses network resources to do this, and Home Assistant watches for these files -- in this way, a program (which might be triggered by a keypad button push) can cause an automation to run on Home Assistant.  The other way around is done via ISY variables -- an automation event on Home Assistant can use a REST call to set a state variable on the ISY, which can trigger a program to run.

Again, this is a bit "Rube Goldberg" in design, but it works for now.  And I'm reluctant to spend a lot more time making a better integration, because it's my hope that some day, one day, perhaps, the ISY may be able to handle those z-wave devices as well... I'm not a fan of multiple automation controllers.

Thank you for your zwave thoughts. Agree was hoping ISY would solve some of my automation quests. Unfortunately unable to get insteon devices for some of those quests hence trying to use zwave. Able to get tilt zwave tilt sensor to work at the mailbox whereby ISY sends notification.

However most other zwave devices seem to be a bust especially with 5:0:11b. Fibaro worked in 4.6.2 not in 5.0, along with mimo2+ only controlling one relay and sensor vs 2 in both 4.6 and 5.0.

Also 5.0.11b broke Simple Controls app executing scenes. Still works for individual device control but not for scene execution. Can’t figure that one out... can execute scene in ISY and using ekPro but no longer with simple control app.

Looks like latest 5.0.11b version was just released, anybody have an off the record guess as to when gen5 dongle will be released along with software version to enable?

To be honest don’t care much about Alexa control (although I do use the portal) would much rather have complete zwave control. Wish team would focus on that work stream vs others.

ISY is a fantastic product (elk, REST integration etc).....guess I’m just too impatient.

Hi pjjameso,I am so very sorry to hear. We will order one and see what's going on. This is a very simple product and it should be supported. With regards to Gen 5, the major issue currently is that it requires S2 security. We are working on it alas I just cannot give any ETAs.With kind regards,Michel

You rock Michel! Thank you so much for debugging the MIMO2+. It will solve a host of issues (automation) for me!

Michel,

Any luck with the MIMO2+? Would like to remove the home assistant on rpi asap.

Unfortunately my curtains require 2 relays.... one to trigger open, one to trigger close, and really a third to have them stop in between but i can live without that one.  The motor attaches to a pull cord and contains sensors to tell when fully open or closed, eg no lever setting.

My only suggestion (maybe someone else has a better solution...) is to use 2 Mimo-lites.

Michel,

No go on getting the MIMO2+ to recognize relay 2 nor the sensor 2.  Also havent been able to get the Fibaro multi sensor to work under 5.0 as it was under 4.62.  Any thoughts?

I have also just set up a test system with 5.0.11B. I too has disappointed that the Fibaro which worked great in 4.6.2 is no longer working in 5.0.11B.  I do not like improved support for the  Aeotec MultiSensor 6 (ZW100).  I am really starting to question my long long wait on full zwave support within ISY. I have been impressed by the spectrum and rate of product development in the zwave space. Vendors like Aeon Labs, Fibaro and even GE are creating interesting IoT products with zwave as the base. I am thinking I might just end up dumping my 10+ year investment in ISY and moving everything over to a HomeSeer setup.

On another note will pull out the Fibaro and try to re install and send the results. As mentioned worked great with 4.62, not at all with 5.011b

What is specifically happening? All of my fibaro sensors are working without issue in 5.11b
