It covers a lot of information. Specifically for new users as well as anyone who wants to program the ISY with the units native programming language and built in capabilities.It contains a lot basic and technical information. I have consolidated of this information into a single source, specifically for my use. However, I am releasing it for everyone to use. It does not cover advanced programming, but if there is enough interest I may look on producing another book with topics such as programming and setting up Polyglot, Node Servers, etc. Please let me and Universal Devices know your thoughts on this book. Whether good or bad. We would appreciate your feedback. You can send any comments, files, and documents to: isy.cookbook@gmail.com. Guest Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Deidrich, I've been playing around with my system, and specifically the Local Settings for my devices. On page 111 of the document in the discussion about local control, it says the following: "In order for these local settings to take effect after being modified, the device must be rebooted by disconnecting its power for a few seconds. This may be done by pulling the air-gap button, by unplugging the device, or by turning off the circuit breaker at the service panel. When power is restored to the device, the new local settings will take effect. The KeypadLinc is the sole exception; its local settings will take effect without being rebooted." Is this still the case with more modern devices? I noticed that changes to one of my SwitchLinc Dual-Band Remote Control Dimmers (2477D) .v41 switches allowed the modification to work without air-gapping the device. Perhaps the text was written earlier than more modern versions of the device? Perhaps someone from UD support can chime in on this... I realized as I read through the document that a lot of the text is earlier than most modern implementations. Just a thought. Tony

Tony You are correct, it has been quite some time since most (maybe all) Insteon devices required a reboot after setting up links.

This is version 1.0 of the document, and as such it is going to be updated for some time. In reality, the document will most likely always change, as new firmware versions come along. To avoid tribunal and all the nasty policing that happens on the wikipedia free for all, a dictator needs to be in charge of each article. Your new assignment, should you choose to accept it, would be to control the outcome of each article to your satisfaction and terminate any detrimental factors to our great ISY nation. This message will not destroy itself in 5 seconds. Look beside the 'article' tab on any page in the wiki. Best of luck. I spent a few years editing about 20k articles on wikipedia and spent half my time in tribunals defending myself or getting rid of rule breakers. Then somebody with better BS comes along and I'm gone too. A manager / dictator is needed to avoid that overhead that wikipedia with its self-management popularity contests. I suggest a select few or just yourself be in charge of text insertion and many (or all) can post in talk pages for suggestions and/or complete text globs that can be cut and pasted as desired. I recognize you want to control/maintain it updates, but is there anyway that I would pay you to print a copy....I'm 60 and old fashion and still live on hardcopy, especially when I'm working through tough issues. If not, I'll understand and still wanted to express my thanks for your time and effort you have put into this wonderful document... Scott 1

I love having the information at hand when I program, etc. That is why I put together this book, gathering information from all the various sources, into a single compilation. I find it much easier to do something if I have all the information available at my side. I prefer hard copy myself, but with over 650 pages, this would be quite a book. The next best thing for me was to have a PDF copy. Also, publishing this into hard copy is a cost prohibitive task, unless there was enough interest to support this. I am working with Universal Devices to determine the best way to supply this information to you and the other users. I appreciate your comments and if there is anything you find in the book that you feel needs some work, or you would like more information in any area, please let me know and I will see if I can find and update the next issue. This document has been updated with corrections, new demo source code, and includes setup of Raspberry PI, Poloyglot, and how to install NodeServers. Scott I too am of the old school and find it very helpful to have hardcopy when I am working on a program. Deidrich, would you please consider changing the permissions in Adobe Acrobat to allow printing but still retain the other restrictions? I often find it extremely helpful to have a printed copy of one of your examples or explanations when I am working on something. Thanks, Doug 1
