ronvond Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 On a number of occasions my garage door, controlled by an Insteon IOLinc 2450 V41, has opened during the night. To date I have lost nothing from my garage, but I am concerned with the un-commanded operation. A few months back I experienced an "All On" event, which caused it to open. I can understand that and assume it may have been triggered by a failing PLM, since the PLM had to be replaced a few weeks later. I have two questions regarding this issue. First: "is there a fix that will prevent this from happening in the future?" Second: I seem to remember sometime back someone mentioned that the 2450 is not a good choice for a garage door control for security reasons and that there was a better option with a Z-Wave device. Does anyone have information on a replacement and will it work with UDI's v 4.7.3? Thanks for any help you can offer Ron
Bumbershoot Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 I have two of these, and am happy with them. They act as secure Z-Wave repeaters, if that's an advantage for you. I don't have specific information about including them with your specific version of firmware, but they're fairly simple devices for your ISY to interact with. I know I'll have to upgrade to 5.x.x someday, but my system overall is working great and I hate to mess with success. Again, thank you.

Dr. Q Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I have to pipe in here and mention that I’ve decided to move my security type devices to HomeKit, which involved swapping out a Schlage 469 for a Sense (Bluetooth instead of Z-wave) and picking up a Insignia (yes, That Insignia) Wi-Fi Garage Door Controller for Apple HomeKit, $70 at Best Buy. If you have an Apple ecosystem, this is hard to beat; the only cloud here starts with an “i” and it doesn’t come with an app, you use the Home app.The Insteon Garage Door Kit was my rationale for starting this expensive hobby in the first place, after going away on a Christmas weekend and finding I’d left the door open. paulbates Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I’ve had 3 for a number of years 1 is in the attic controlling a motor for heavy duty dampers 2 in the garage... 1 reading a Hydreon rain sensor and the other controlling the detached garage door. I’ve been controlling the garage door since 2011 with the same iolinc and keypad key... if it missed even once my phone would be ringing.. it hasn’t. I get regular notifications when the hydreon cancels a sprinkler cycle due to enough rain. i consider my attic and the garage hostile environments with temps above and below the iolincs specs, but they continue to work
johnjces Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 @ronvond I too have three IOLinc 2450 v41 in use as garage door sensors and openers. Two in a hot climate and one in a cooler climate. All have been in use three+ years with the 'cooler' one in use about 3 1/2+ years. The 'cooler' one, about 4 months into it's life, began to randomly open the garage door which is pretty disconcerting. However, the problem in that instance was the PLM. I was new to all this and purchased an alleged refurbished PLM. Once I replaced that PLM with a brand new one, I have had no issues with any of them... yet. I know it's a matter of time with those in the desert heat of a garage ceiling failing first. I "think" one thing I did at both places which 'may' help, is that I added whole house surge protection at the breaker box. Not certain if that has saved any of my devices, but have never had much fail since I installed them. The one in the mountains has been in place 8+ years. I hope this tidbit helps. John

One for garage and one that resets my computer when it locks up. I use 2 programs to automatically close my garage door. This is not a popular solution by most here on this forum, but it works best for me. 1 for night and 1 for day. Identical programs, except for the time to close is different. I use a couple of so called safeties. Use motion detection, 30 second beeping alarm before the door closes and flashing of the lights. Oh yea, texts to all involved when the door fails to close (object has fallen and in the way) My original problem was having the garage door open all night because some family member forgot to close it before retiring to bed. BTW, I may have been of those members too. Also, very reliable in keeping the door closed. Sometimes, too reliable. PhanTomiZ
beninsteon Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 After I experienced an all on event in my house that opened my garage door, turned on 2 gas fireplaces, and turned off the water (all controlled by IOLincs at the time), I removed all IOLinc relays from my installation. Replaced with Global Cache relays which are designed to be controlled by a network resource.
