TexMike Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 I'm sure UDI folks are crazy busy, UDI website was really slow today after the Polisy announcement. Answer when you have a chance. If all my current requirements are cloud based (only ecobee now and soon to be Ring) and PGC is working fine for me, Do I need a Polisy? Of course I want one, but do I really need one before I have a need to support a local API? Thanks, Mike
giomania Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 I have never used polyglot but with announcement of the new hardware I did some quick research to see what’s available in polyglot.I found Ecobee and AV Remote items of primary interest, and others with a lesser interest, so I decided what the heck.UDI is a great company and I need to use polyglot eventually so why not get the appliance designed for that, which will make my life easier.I am in for the Pro model.MarkSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 1
Michel Kohanim Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 @TexMike, No, you don't. At least not for now. With kind regards, Michel

With kind regards, Michel Michel, thanks for confirming my thoughts. I'm sure I'll end up needing to support local at some point as I continue to add devices. Looks like a great addition to the family. Best, Mike 1
TexMike Posted June 17, 2019 Author Posted June 17, 2019 For those like me who want to make a comparison https://polyglot.universal-devices.com/ currently has 56 nodeservers and PGC https://polyglot.isy.io/store has 18. At least one, Ring is only on PGC, but it is still under development and apparently not ready for full release. I see some interesting differences, been interested in CAO tags for a while to name one and implementation would be much easier with a nodeserver. I'm convincing myself I do need one for the additional support. @Michel Kohanim one question I can't seem to find an answer. Will @io_guy 's nodes also work on the Polisy? Thanks, Mike
io_guy Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 @TexMike, Yes, I'm working with UDI to include a one-click NodeLink install for Polisy. 4
ISYhbsh01 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 (edited) @michel-kohanim Will Polisy support nodeservers for more than one ISY? Edited June 18, 2019 by hbsh01
Michel Kohanim Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 @hbsh01, We have not considered this use case. Let me get back to you. Wtih kind regards, Michel

Wtih kind regards, Michel Just to clarify, I am obviously not talking about when the Polisy will in the future eventually replace the ISY-994. Obviously we will need a separate one for each location to be used as a ISY-994 replacement. My question is now about Polyglot/node servers. I am actually still on the 4 branch firmware & have not gotten around to test either polyglot nor the portal due to lack of available time. So for that matter does the portal & polyglot cloud and/or polyglot installed on a pi currently support talking to more than one ISY? I currently have 3 ISY's, one at home and at my 2 offices. if I can get one Polisy to talk to all 3 ISY's plug and play out of the box, that would definitely be a no-brainer purchase for me. Thanks
Michel Kohanim Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 @hbs01, Polyglot Cloud can have multiple ISYs per account. On the other hand, in-premise Polyglot has a 1-1 relationship with an ISY. We'll size supporting more than 1 ISY per Polyglot/Polisy. With kind regards, Michel
JBanaszak Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Follow up question: does Polisy require the on-premise connected ISY to be on the 5.x.x branch for polyglot functionality?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Michel Kohanim Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 @jimmyban, Yes on 5.0.x branch. But, ISY does not have to be local. With kind regards, Michel

Michel Kohanim Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 @hbsh01, It means we'll figure out how long it takes to make the modifications and whether or not it's worth the effort. With kind regards, Michel

upstatemike Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 I am thinking of pre-ordering a Polisys but have never used Polyglot so I want to be sure it will address my need. I'm looking to use Insteon KeypadLincs to control Hue or Lifx lighting in a given room such that each Keypad Link button directly sets a specific scene (color, brightness, etc.) for the room without any reliance on Internet connectivity. Am I correct in my understanding that a Polisys will let me set that up in simple ISY programs (no complex scripting or programming)?

I do this today with a rPi running Polyglot with the Hue and LIFX nodeservers.
asbril Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 In anticipation of receiving my Polisy, any suggestions on what I could do with my (then no longer needed) RPi ?

Is your son going to get a Polisy? If not you can use it at good house or keep it as a temporary back up should something happen with your polisy. I'm planning on adding mine too my back up ISY so I can play around with stuff prior to adding a node server to the house system Edited June 21, 2019 by lilyoyo1 1

I used a RPi 3 for a web browser for a few years. It's tucked away due to listing the house for sale at the moment. The Chromium browser has a few bugs but the speed is not bad at all. Seems ridiculous strapping a small cigarette package size on the back of a 24" monitor though. What am I going to do with three RPIs? One has become a genealogy file server just recently. 1
