arw01 Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Having some trouble getting Alexa to work with a 8 key keypad to operate a light. This is a 8 key dimmer pad and I have the can lights on the A button. I cannot get Alexa to work with it as it says the switch is non responsive. Not sure what to make of that, I deleted it from the ISY portal, re-added and still get the same does not respond message in alexa. Secret sauce for a keypad?
auger66 Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 I've never tried that, but I assume the A key and light are part of a scene; and you are trying to adjust both the light and key. Have you tried having Alexa turn the scene on/off instead? 1
paulbates Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 It's not the keypad as a device. I have alexa controlling several keypad keys for lighting. I control the scene, not the actual button, but that shouldn't matter.
arw01 Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 I have not tried the scene, but seeing a pattern here. This particular button is not part of a scene and being A is a true device on the keypad.
paulbates Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) It didn't hit me until now, Keypad keys have to be controlled by scenes, and can't be controlled directly. If you look at a key in the admin console there is no On or Off command for keys. Create a single device scene for the key and try turning that on and off with alexa Paul Edited July 16, 2019 by paulbates
BamBamF16 Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 The primary keys (A on 8 button and On/Off on 6 button) are just like any other switch. The others on the keypad must be controlled by scene yes.
arw01 Posted July 17, 2019 Author Posted July 17, 2019 That is what I thought on the other key which is a scene it works fine, just the A key which controls the device does not so far.
smarthome_newbie Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I’m having this exact issue. I tried adding the keypad A as a device and also added it as a scene. When I use voice, Alexa says “not supported” but I am able to control the light using the Alex app. Any idea how to control the main keypad load with Alexa using voice?
lilyoyo1 Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 How is it currently setup? What steps did you take? Alexa and google home can control the load button as it is seen as a switch. Only the secondary buttons would need to be part of something to get it controlled.

Right now I have it set up as a device for Alexa. When I say the keyword, it says not supported. It works fine for other switches I’ve set up. I added the device in myisy, then discovered the device in Alexa. The device was discovered and I can control it with the app, but when I use the voice command, it doesn't work. smarthome_newbie Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 I renamed it to bedroom light instead of bedroom and it worked. I swear I deleted it and added it back multiple times and it didn’t work until I changed the spoken word. Thanks for the help.

Alexa is very sensitive to 'lights' vs 'light' lately.

Perhaps when we can change to Sam's voice she won't be so sensitive... ? https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/25/20883751/amazon-alexa-voice-languages-natural-bi-lingual-frustration-support-new-features

Alexa can respond with a whispering voice to a whispered request now, why not accents and other languages, like they do now? I am starting to see how these units can match the cognitive skills of a human soon. Sent using Tapatalk Edited October 11, 2019 by larryllix
Athlon Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Been whispering to mine for a while - love the voice. ?
