I just registered for a 30 day trial of Universal Devices ISY portal, and now have a yellow light with "Pending Approval by owner" but I can't find anywhere to "approve" it. Nothing is working until I get through this. Please help!

Solved - Log into the Admin Console and select the Configuration tab, then the portals tab and select "approve" if there is no portals tab please select Help->Manage Modules to install the portal module onto the ISY, then you will be able to approve the portal.

Thanks for the tip, @RofS.  I wish I'd found that, before my trial-period expired and I hadn't played with anything by that time ? :-(

I believe @Michel Kohanim would help you reset that for you so you could try the trial

@paulbates ... i have the highest regard for Michel, and I'm sure he would prove very helpful.  But I'd have to resurrect my Polyglot test-server, update it, make sure it's running OK, *then* I could perform some fruitful testing.  Right now, I don't have the bandwidth / strong desire... I missed my window a year ago, and I'll wait for the next opportunity before reaching out to Michel.

Thank-you,

FWIW.. if you use polyglot cloud via the portal, you don’t need a local server... and vice versa... portal isn’t needed to support a local polyglot server

Hi, @paulbates

I should not leave you hanging, after providing a helpful, correct answer :-)

Background:  I haven't ponied-up for the Network Module

My Thinking:  try the ISY Portal for 30 days, *including the Network Module* as a component of the Trial.

My Earlier Planning:  Use the ISY Portal to connect and use Alexa.  AT THE SAME TIME, actually access and use my Polyglot server.  Quickly endeavour to have Alexa use some Polys.  I already have remote-access to my ISY994 (custom port, port-forwarding), so I can focus exclusively on the connectivity the Network Module would provide.

My Current Situation:  Craigslist provided an Insteon Hub nearly "free", when I scooped other stuff like switches.  I have this Hub *in parallel* to my ISY994iZ Pro, and I have Alexa connected directly - and only! - to individual devices.  We're exploring how we like (or not) having voice-control. We are already clear that it's *not* automation (in some cases, voice-control indicates that I've *failed* in automating; in other cases, it highlights where/how automation can be applied).

So, perhaps you can now see that there are a couple of moving parts involved, before I want to move to Portal Trial (again).  And by moving slowly along a related path (with the Hub), we're able to explore some human-factors at a more-leisurely pace than a 30-day Portal Trial would allow.  I am quite sure I'll love the Portal, and being able to add Z-Wave (Plus!) control (missing with the Hub).  But I would love to be in a solid position to use this gracious offer of Michel's to explore the smallest set of new unknowns... it will therefore wait a bit.

Thank-you,

I don't view voice control as a failure in automation or lacking in automation in itself. For me it's an additional avenue of convenience.

Automation can't cover everything. Voice folks in the blanks much like a remote does. For example, when I go into the kitchen to cook, I can tell Google that I'm cooking. It'll then run my cooking program that turns on all the lights, sets the under cabinet lights to Bright white, turns on the exhaust fan and starts my music. I can do this from my keypad as well but keeps me from having to do so.

The best part is that it doesn't need to be used. If you don't feel like using it, it's there dormant. If you do, it's ready

Voice control is like power windows in your car. You will never go back.

I am with lilyoyo1. I believe in total automation but I am not there yet and will likely never be. Voice control allows so many more controls without dozens and dozens of pushbutton, every where in the house. Coloured lighting schemes would be next to impossible.

Imagine the home wiring required to be able to turn on porch/deck lights outside from any room in the house? Lazy? You bet! :)

Imagine doing this one manually!
Alexa! Turn on security lights!
Turns every light outside on and under porch and decks, around the  house and turns ever light inside  the house off, Straw Dogs style, (Dustin Hoffman movie)

Alexa! Turn off security lights.
Reverses it back to previous lighting setups.

That's another thing I forgot to mention. Voice control cuts down on the amount of keypads and remotes. In previous homes, I spent much more money on additional kpls, buttons for them, and remotes than I'll ever pay for the portal. All in an effort to manually control secondary devices every blue moon. Now, if I want to change the temperature, air purifier, etc. I just tell it vs needing a button for that control

Yes. Vocal control is like having a keypad in every room with an infinite number of buttons. Although against my basic principles, I would have a hard time living without it now.
The second largest usage for us, with vocal is asking how old some actor is, or what the name of the actor is, while watching movies. Third, is asking outside temperatures and weather.

BTW: Alexa now has a skill that supports the CAO Tags now and will report temperatures for my 7 Tags. Recommended!

THANK YOU - I was trying all kinds of crazy stuff to find an approval request, and finally decided UD locked me out and I had to wait for them to approve something.  WHY can't they just tell you what you need to do - UGH!!!

Thanks again, very helpful.

I am having the same problem but it is already registered under portal configuration.  So now what?

If you mean that in the admin console on the portal tab of the configuration section it says "registered" but that's still showing pending in the portal, then perhaps refresh the portal page, or even shift-refresh the portal page.  If that doesn't help log out of the portal and log back in, if that still didn't help open a support ticket support@universal-devices.com

I put a ticket in and told them I enabled the portal in the ISY ADMIN and it is still yellow in the portal even after refreshing and signing out a few times.  It will not let me connect to the Echo or Mobilinc because it is still yellow.

Tech support is telling me to follow the steps I already followed even though I told them I did already.  At this point I may just ask Paypal for a refund and use Homeseer instead of the ISY.  I had the ISY in my last house and wanted it in this house but if its not ready for prime time yet I am going to move on at this point its been over a year (I waited since last May and I am home recovering from surgery so I wanted to get this going finally).

Alrighty then it looks like it will be a late night moving everything to Homeseer.  I have been installing UDI products since ISY26.  I paid $23 yesterday for a 2 year portal subscription like I have been doing on the older firmware for a few years.  Tech support insists I bought the Mobilinc portal.  You cant even buy the mobilinc portal on UDI you have to go to Mobilinc. I only use their Pro app since I have many systems out there over the years and its the lesser of the evils.

Now they canceled the ISY portal (no longer says active and I cant activate it) so I guess I am getting a refund and shown the door.  SMH

Did you tell them you wanted a refund or contact PayPal? Your experience is far from the norm in regards to how UDI has operated in the past with others (even going so far to remotely log-on to help people).

There are also many who has mixed up portals thinking they paid for 1nwhen it was the other so it is something to look into

So you are saying you can buy the Mobilinc portal on UDI website for $23 for 2 years.  I dont see as an option it and I always gave UDI the money not Mobilinc on every system I setup since UDI created the portal.  Pretty sure they only sell their own Portal.

That's not what I'm saying. I don't know because I don't use mobilinc or their portal. I've just seen many other posters in the past posting about 1 portal (and are adamant about it) then it turns out they were using the opposite of what they thought.

I'm assuming you did select the portal in the approval tab as well

I tried every combination you can think of.   I am setting up Homeseer now.  UDI tech support was not willing or just now able to reset the acct or anything.

Your first post was 13 hours ago and you've already given up as of 5 hours ago? So you gave them 8 hours to respond?  With other products, I've waited weeks/a month for tickets to be responded to.  UDI is typically quite willing to help, and almost always bends over backwards to help people out.
