Anyone have a Zen32 switch/scene controller?

This thing looks like it would make a great fan timer controller if it is fully supported on the ISY.  The big upper button controls a load.  The smaller lower 4 scene buttons could probably be used to both turn on the load through the ISY, and start a timer, so you could get 4 pre-defined timer settings.

I'm still unsure if the ISY currently supports scene controllers like this well, and specifically if it would support all 4 scene buttons as control triggers.  Control of the LEDs on the scene buttons (e.g. turning off when the timer expires) would be great, but not necessary.  Anyone with experience?

OK, so I bought one.  The picture shows the nodes that were created in 5.0.16C.  The first one (Binary Switch) is the only one that changes under any circumstances.  Pushing any of the 4 scene buttons does nothing, other than toggle the LED state for that button.  I guess that's the bad news.

The good news is that the Binary Switch status is updated instantly when actuated, and it can be controlled by the ISY.  So once again, a ZooZ switch has met my minimum requirements.

If you have been following my saga, you will know that I now have the 500 series dongle.  Some day I'll install it - I'm still worried that my Schlage lock won't be reachable based on others' reports.  But then maybe the scene buttons will do something.  I'll probably start a new thread at that point, but I'm curious if anyone has been able to get ZooZ scene activations to do anything useful with 500 series/5.3.X or greater.

Hey there I just bought a pair of these on sale this week.  You can actually use the scene buttons easily in programs as triggers.  I'm using the On state for each button to trigger different programs to set blinds to various levels.  If you lookup the advanced settings page on Zooz's website you can see how to adjust the LEDs and the relay function.  I have it set with all of the LEDs permanently off and the relay decoupled from the physical switch.  In effect this gives you a 5 button controller.

Looking at the setting in ISY it looks like you can distinguish between On, 3x, 4x, and 5x presses.  Oddly 2x isn't in the list.  I'm only using a single press for each button to keep the WAF high.

Thanks @xlurkr I just received and configured the Zen 32, with help from your post here.

Like you, I configured the main button without a load and it turns ON or OFF a fan and lights in our master bedroom. The 4 other buttons are set as 3-ways, controlling other specific lights.

What I have not been able tp achive is for the 4 other buttons to show the status of those lights. As an example, if I turn ON the entrance light of our bedroom using its own switch, then that status will not show on the Zen 32. Of course I can configure those Zen 32 buttons to show their own status, but not the status of another switch.  Is there a way to achieve that ?

BTW I noticed that the reaction time of the Zen 32 is extremly fast, probably because it is Zwave 700.  It surprised me because I always believed that a Zwave mesh (I have some 80 Zwave devices, mostly Series 500) would always work at the lowest common denominator.

The speed is probably based on the device processor itself since your Isy board is still 500 series.

I just installed one of these in a Homeseer system and have the same issue. No way to associate or reference the buttons to stay in synce when the load of the other device is changed locally. Going to try changing the LED "Always On/Always Off" settings to see if this solves the problem. Also might try installing it into Hubitat to see what my options are there. I don't currently have a Z-Wave radio attached to ISY/Polisy so can't replicate what you are doing. If I come up with a clever solution (doubtful) I ill let you know. Best answer would be for Zooz to do a firmware upgrade to provide better access to control the state of the 4 scene buttons.

It would also be helpful if you put in a ticket to Zooz to raise awareness of the issues around this use case. I have one open and the more demand the more likely they will address it.

Sorry, I've been away from home for a while, and will continue to be for a while.  For anyone joining this thread, keep in mind that I'm still using the 300 series dongle (though I have the 500 series in a box) and am on 5.0.16C.  It works well enough for my needs now, but someday I'll upgrade and see if I can enable more functionality.  At this rate, it'll probably be with the upcoming 700 series dongle on the Polisy, though, and not the ISY.

I have been through several Zooz support folks at this point and was just told they are escalating to a supervisor. No guarantee but at least they are taking the issue seriously. I think it might help if they hear from more people on this issue.

FYI-

Hi Michael,

We would recommend using the central scene commands here to control the switches remotely. You would set a single click on the ZEN32 button to toggle the state of the controlled switch so that it changes state anytime the button is pressed. That would take care of the double-press issue you've experienced with direct association.

To keep the LED indicator in sync, you would set it to always on in the settings and then create a rule to control the indicator separately based on the status of the main switch. I'm not sure whether HomeSeer supports that last feature since this is something that was going to be added at a later date when we last followed up about the integration so we will work with their team to make sure it's implemented shortly and I'll circle back with you once we have some news here.

In the meantime, would you be able to try the central scene solution instead of direct association to see if it works better for on/off control?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

I am not sure to understand the technical details, but great follow-up support from Zooz.

I just got a Zen32 and the binary switch node turns on/off no matter what button I press... the relay or any of the four smaller buttons. This means that if I turn on the big relay, and then press another button it sets it off (doesn't actually change the physical relay state) so this is not good for programs. Each button actually seems to have an individual on/off state which all share one node in ISY.

Maybe is older firmware because parameter 23 doesn't appear to work... I am putting in a ticket to Zooz for this firmware.

I've been programming one recently. I don't see the main switch turning off when I press another switch, but it does blink.

In general I'd say this works pretty well although the color of the lights seems difficult to control in anything like real time. I was trying to use color changes to show degree of dimming, but couldn't get the dimming level and the colors to synch. Not a big deal, but it would be nice.

I like these switches. I am in the process of changing almost all of my switches to these. Setting up the programming on these to work the way you want is more complicated than the insteon switches but I find i like these better for my needs even with the "limitations" everyone mentions.

Here is a little extra reading:
