It seems that an upgrade would not be necessary as I can accomplish all these controls with the ISY. My hope was that there was addded functionality with this revision as it pertanis to the ISY. It does not appear so. J

You can put the thermostat as responder in scenes 2. You can use Fan, calling cool, and calling heat as controllers in other scenes 3. You can safely get rid of your thermostat query program (leave the 24 hour one though) With kind regards, Michel

rlebel Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I've installed my two upgraded adaptors and am generally quite happy with them. However, I am a bit concerned about the behavior of the humidity sensor. Or, rather, the behavior with no sensor! I have one T1900 and it reports humidity just fine. My other thermostat is a T1700; it has always reported a number around 75% for the non-existant sensor. This was a relatively minor aggravation before v2.0 but now I find that I am getting a somewhat random humidity report every minute or two. 75%, 76%, 74%, 72%, etc. Can I put a jumper somewhere in the T1700 to disable this? I can't even buy a humidity sensor to shut it up because the 1700 won't take one!
intellihome Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Thats it! Thanks rlebel, I just upgraded and have found that I have a 10X more traffic then I did with version 1 (15 minute interval query). I now get traffic fron the t-stat every couple of minutes. I did not know what it was and now I realize it's the humidity sensor reporting (even though I do not have a humidity sensor on the unit TI1700). This is clearly a big step backwards. There has to be a fix for this or I am better off with a V1 t-stat adapter.

Steve L Smartlabs Steve, I don't think you have completely followed the problem: nobody expects the value to be useful but because the value seems to change randomly v2.0 is broadcasting useless data frequently (e.g. once every minute or two). We are not requesting the data, but your v2.0 adapter is.

The v2 thermostat transmitter is sending humidity broadcasts every few minutes even though I don't have a humidity sensor on my Venstar thermostat. I am already seeing a notible drop off in reliability of my insteon network with all this extra traffic. Steve this is clearly on oversight (bug) in the design of the new v2 thermostat transmitter. Steve what is Smarthome doing to correct this and provide replacements for those who have purchased this defective device?

Hopefully this issue can be resolved before long. Steve (Smarthome) please keep us posted on any plans to correct this problem. I do not have any need for the T1900 but I would assume there is no problem with the T1900? being it has a humidity sensor. Does anybody have a T1900 with the V2 adapter, any issues? rlebel Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 As I reported before I have a T1900 with a v2.0, it seems to work fine. I am rather surprised that an additional once a minute message on your network has a detrimental effect on reliability. I have not noticed a reliability problem with my network since adding the v2.0 to my T1700 and T1900. The Insteon communication protocols are designed to be robust with multiple message sources. I suspect that you have some other problems that are aggravated by the additional messages, not caused by them. I do think that soon someone (maybe me if I have time) will figure out how to jumper the sensor in the T1700. It would be great if SH tech support figured it out for us. P.S. I suspect that if you added a humidity senor to the T1700, even if it did not "work" in providing a display readout of humidity it would fix this problem. Maybe I will try moving the sensor from my 1900 to my 1700.

Disturbs me that we paid for an upgrade and got a downgrade.
intellihome Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Excellent News. A representitive from Venstar has suggested a fix which I implemented this evening and tested. The Humidity updates on the T1700 are gone. The display on the ISY now shows 0% all the time. They said they will make a change on future T1700's. The Fix: 1. Remove the T-stat from the baseplate. 2. Looking at the PCB with the V2 adapter port faceing down, you will see where a humidity sensor could be installed on the bottom right side of the PCB (it's actually written "Humidity sensor"). Just above this area you will see two rectangular solder bumps. The component label is C32. 3. Get a soldering iron and short these two pads together with a solder bead. BTW When I removed the V2 my stability returned. All x10 fired perfectly and my keypad buttons leds are always in synch. The V2 is now installed and the ISY is controlling nicely.

mitch236 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 After being assured that I wouldn't void my warrantee by Smarthome, I decided to solder the points at c32 which was much easier than I thought. I didn't need pictures at all, it is very easy to find. Now I get 0% humidity and so far, no humidity traffic. It's amazing how much info can be shared via the web and friendly forums like this one. I can't imagine what we did before there was so much sharing of info. Thanks!!!

dougos2 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I did this soldering fix on 2 thermostats. they stopped sending humidity updates, but they do not show zero humidity on the isy. one shows 248% another 3%. they never change and there is no traffic in the logs, but I wish they would just show 0 so I know that they do not have a humidity module installed. My other thermostat is a t1800 that work fine with its humidity module showing the correct humidity.

mitch236 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 There does seem to be some sort of bug with the 1700. I soldered my humidity sensor spots as described here and I get those crazy humidity numbers too. From what I've read, so do most people. It would be great if we could defeat the humidity info from being sent from the 1700 altogether. I assume this would require a seperate dongle for the 1700 which is too expensive. I've learned to ignore it but I'd rather not look at it!
