Here's an interesting read though... https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corelocation/cllocationmanager/creating_a_location_push_service_extension Quote Overview The Location Push Service Extension, available starting in iOS 15, is a power efficient way to query locations on iOS or iPadOS devices, even when your app isn’t running. So I wonder if Apple broke old API Geofence pulls on purpose. @InsteonNut Have you seen this information? Do you think this could be impacting Mobilinc geofence? My Alexa geofence seems to work 100% of the time. But it doesn't have notifications on the phone, but it is triggering routines in Alexa as I cross the boundary I setup in Alexa.
InsteonNut Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Hi @Geddy Yes, that Apple developer link is for a very narrow and specific use case where users on your app can request the location of another user on the app via a background push notification. This is presumably what the "Find My" app uses and Apple is opening this up for other 3rd party apps to use. Apple released iOS 15.2 beta 3 this week and so far, for me, geo-fencing seems to be much more reliable. It's not listed as a fix in the release notes aside from "bug fixes" so I can't say for certain that beta 3 fixes this, but it was a noticeable improvement over all other iOS 15 releases. Wes 1

MrBill Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) Last night when we left and returned GeoFences worked correctly on both phones!! That's the first time it's worked that way for awhile...Both phones... leaving and returning. A greater sample size is needed but the common denominator was IOS 15.1.1 was installed on both yesterday (which claims it's only a bug fix for dropped calls on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13). For those who have installed iOS 15.1.1 what is your GeoFence experience? Edited November 21, 2021 by MrBill

Installed 15.1.1 when it dropped and no geofence updates (or phone notifications) over the weekend. Only time it worked was today when I purposefully had Mobilinc open as I left the house and left the geofence area. It notified the phone and changed the variable on the ISY. Let's hope it gets better in 15.2 and fixed by 15.3. Going to be a long year if it's not fixed soon!

Plus it's a pain to remember to check what we've come to know should be automatic. I've actually had to resort to sticky notes on vehicle dashboards! I had the idea to send myself a notification 30 seconds after either garage door closed to check the status, but the garage doors close a lot more often than just us leaving. We are both leaving in 1 hour so we will see what happens then.....
wrj0 Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 For those who have installed iOS 15.1.1 what is your GeoFence experience? For the past two days Locative has properly reported entering and exiting my current location's geofence. Seems to have started working again after upgrading from iOS 15.1 to 15.1.1. Fingers crossed it will continue to work. 1
Teknofilo Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 My wife and I have been experiencing problems with geofences with our iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, both of them running iOS 15 out of the box. I have issues with ally my geofencing apps (Locative, Geofency, IFTTT app, Tado), which do not execute actions upon entering/exiting geofences unless I open these apps almost every day. Tado failing to update is an issue, as it controls my heating. Issues persisted with iOS 15.1.1, so I have just installed iOS 15.2 beta 3... let's see if problems have been solved.
dbwarner5 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 I see 15.2.2 is now available. This isn't listed as a fix, but here is hoping. Anyone have luck with it yet? I have downloaded it, but unfortunately, quarantining with Covid, so cant test. lol

dbwarner5 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 @geddy Software update.. updated last night. .here is a screen shot. Not beta
Geddy Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 @dbwarner5 That's "only" 15.2" that's been out for a few weeks at this point. You said 15.2.2 and might have gotten a few of us excited. I can confirm this is NOT fixed in 15.2. At least not with Mobilinc Pro. It appears that other geofence systems are running more accurately, but I haven't made the switch to using those hoping that Mobilinc will work as iOS updates. But I don't use them for mission critical automations so I'm not worried about it...unlike some that seem to have more dependencies on location services. 1
Nestor Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 My geofencing is still inconsistent on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Running iOS 15.2 and MobiLinc HD. Everything used to run well on my 6 S plus before I upgraded to the new phone this Oct. Has this issue been resolved for others?

Upgraded last week to IOS 15.2.1 and at first seemed to have worked but now consistently nothing. All started with IOS version 15.. GEOFENCING has been broken hope it gets fixed in next release.. I believe some are running IOS 15.2.2 and same issue GEOFENCING not working ?
Roman Posted January 26, 2022 Author Posted January 26, 2022 Anyone having any success with GEOFENCING with IOS 15.3 that just came out ? Roman

I haven’t installed 15.3 yet, but will tonight and see if I get alerts crossing the geofence tomorrow. Glad your initial testing appears to work better. Fingers crossed it keeps working.

Using OrchMobiLinc app... did an "update only" to the app on my IPhone, just in case. Been in and out of the GEOFENCE only once but it did work... Roman
wrj0 Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 After updating to iOS 15.3, Locative detected boundary crossings (both in and out) for the single test I made. Pushover received the boundary crossing info from Locative and properly reported to my iPhone 13. Hopefully, it will continue to function properly. 1

Been in and out of the GEOFENCE only once but it did work... Thanks. I had intermittent working with Mobilinc HD if I opened the app shortly before starting out. But if I hadn't opened the app in a day (or several days) then it would never alter the location variable and wouldn't notify on the phone. I also updated to 15.3 last night and did the "update only" for Mobilinc and also reset the location settings for Mobilinc. I did NOT open it this morning before departing and received notification of exiting the geofence area. So that's a plus. 8 minutes ago, wrj0 said: Hopefully, it will continue to function properly. Geddy Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 @Roman Hopefully you've had continued success. I can report that mine has been working well since upgrading to 15.3. Glad this seems resolved by Apple!

So my iPhone no issues, with regards to my spouse, had issues so just now deleted the geofence variable in the ISY, and setup a new variable on the phone syc'd to the ISY, fingers crossed... Her phone was untouched and never upgraded to IOS 15 until 2 days ago so probably why I had to do this. With myself I had done these steps when trouble shooting why the geofencing was not working during the upgrades of IOS 15.. Keep you posted, but it looks like the above is necessary... Roman 1
