JTsao Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I have been checking almost daily for Polisy updates via the System->Check for Polisy Updates menu and have been appyling the updates as they come out. There's been a lot of updates recently, but I don't think any of them have caused any problems for me yet. I just checked and now it says 100 packages available for update. Is anyone else seeing this many? I have never seen anything close to that amount and am concerned that something might break. Has anyone actually applied these updates?

I had 115 packages to update when went through SSH update/upgrade process. PG3 is now version 3.0.46. Lots up the updates were to FreeBSD packages. PG3 web interface now shows:

I have been rebooting after updating in the past, but now with IoP running, I don't really want to reboot unless it is needed. Is it better to update via SSH + "sudo pkg update sudo pkg upgrade" vs. the web page? (because there is more feedback via the SSH terminal about the update vs. just a couple of beeps). If you type "pkg info | grep -i ISY" before and after the update and see that the ISY, PG3, Polyglot2 and udx versions have not changed, does that imply that each of those things does not have to be restarted? jfai Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 If your Polisy has fairly recent FreeBSD and udx versions (less than 9 months old or so), my experience is that the "Update Polisy" menu entry in the Polisy UI is working well. The update script will do a reboot as necessary, otherwise only the updated services are restarted. If you want to know what's going on during the update, you can follow the system log. SSH into Polisy, then: tail -n 50 -f /var/log/messages Note: The SSH connection will be terminated when the Polisy is rebooted.

I once (I think)m did an update from within the AC, but now no longer see that option. Yesterday I performed a SSH update and I believe that I saw 400 updates. After that update, at first none of my 11 Zwave devices showed connected in IoP and all but 2 came back after two reboots. I had to include the other two again (after exclude).

Expand Mine showed blank as well until I triggered them. All of mine came back though at least.

Expand Open the Dashboard from the Polisy webserver, e.g. https://192.168.0.18/dashboard. Then select System > Update Polisy. This works with all major web browsers (well, I haven't tested all of them, but I know it works with Edge and Samsung Internet. The U/I was implemented with Angular, so it should work with all major web browsers)

I figure if it needs to be rebooted somebody will say reboot. I don't know enough about FreeBSD stuff or *nix to know when to reboot or not, but always remember the computer geeks I know bragging about never having to reboot their *nix machines just stopping and restarting processes seemed to be the same as a Windows reboot. So I try not to reboot or power cycle the Polisy if I don't necessarily have to. That's just personal preference.

Expand One issue is that upgrade and update, bring all packages up to date.... but the changes don't take effect until the service is restarted. The other day Michel's announcement included an isy restart, but in reality PG3 had updated also. so... either check version numbers to see what needs to be restarted... OR... reboot polisy. 1
