Ross Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 @MrBillIf possible, I (and my wife) would still like to receive notifications via text. It's sort of a one-stop shop for all incoming info. Does the Notification NS do this? Is there a best practice or is it just impractical? I have a Verizon phone. Thank you.
Geddy Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 @Ross I moved your post to the Notifications Node Server forum. I think the question is better asked of the developer @JimboAutomates. Or learning more about the node server from the Read Me linked from the NS store. It's been said many times that the "old" process of using email to text has become very unreliable, and not the suggested method. Using Notification Node Server as developed works with other apps to send push alerts to your mobile devices. Because it is not relying on email servers and your provider to support email to text it's usually more efficient once setup correctly. You just have to judge for yourself your ability to learn the new process and set it up how you best want to receive notifications. Or, if you're able to stay with the system that has been shown to have issues (at times) and just live with it as you might have it currently setup. 1
Ross Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 @Geddy Thank you. I don't really care how it's done (email, ns, etc.), as long as I can receive the notification via a text. I'll check out the Notification NS and see if it does the trick.
larryllix Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Usually providers provide a conversion address method to convert emails to SMS so you can use the native ISY notification action system.it usually looks something like1234567890@verizon.txt.comdo a search for listed domain names.Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk
Ross Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 @larryllix I have that in place; however, I'm experiencing multi-hour delays like many others have. Sometimes it's instantaneous; so, I ride it out until the delays set in somewhat randomly.

They were never guaranteed as instantaneous and now can take days to arrive. This is very annoying as another good medium has been wrecked. 1

I've posted alternatives many many time over the years. One is to use Pushover either via node server or direct from Network Resources, or a combination. Or another is to install a seperate email client such as Spark Mail on your phone just for email messages from the ISY. I have this method set up and actually use the same comcast address for outbound email via the ISY as incoming via Spark Mail on my phone. With any of these alternatives you can have push notifications. What's not reliable and hasn't been for a long time is email to text. I've posted on this subject so many times I'm a broken record I should just start linking to the last time I said it. 1 1
Ross Posted September 4, 2022 Author Posted September 4, 2022 @MrBill I've seen your past messages on the subject and I understand and appreciate them. It's hard for me to wean myself from texts. Just when I'm to the point of frustration, they seem to work instantaneously again for a few weeks. But, I now understand that the only way for ISY to get to texts is through email and that is an unreliable method. I have a few phone numbers and a couple of Google phone numbers. I was hoping there was a node server that could somehow go from phone to phone. I was just waving a magic wand. Thanks.
MrBill Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 You'll be quite happy with Pushover if you'll just try it. It gives the same type of notification a text gives, with the added advantage of it's faster and it's reliable. There is a basic learning curve, but once you're past that you'll be in much better shape. Additionally you can log all the devices into a single account. No recurring fee, just a one time fee for the app that you only pay once... not per device. 1 1

Javi Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Hi @Ross, Our app, UD Mobile, now has push notifications for users with an ISY Portal Account. These can be triggered from Network Resources or from the Notification Node Server. This is a new feature and we hope to have better integration with the Notification Node Server in the future. Downloadable example and video using Network Resources can be found here. 2
larryllix Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 I'll have to give those a try as the constant randomising the from address by the UDI default converter is driving me nuts now and I can't make my Gmail SMTP server work for live nor money anymore.Rge constant changing of the from address makes it a lot of work to delete every SMS individually and floods my lists with so many different message titles like a nasty spammer making it useless, mostly.Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk
