Insteon product availability

New email from Insteon:

Hi all,

We have received a lot of questions regarding products. The team has been working hard with our factories, it has been particularly challenging given the global supply chain issues.

But, I am happy to announce we can now accept orders for products (https://shop.insteon.com). You will notice we have transitioned to a more robust shopping platform that will lead to a better user experience for you.

If you have not done so already, please make sure you have created a new account on this store, including creating a new password. NOTE: This user name and password are not tied to your Insteon account that you use to log in to your Insteon mobile app. This is for the new store only.

The current product offering and quantities are limited so we have set a maximum order quantity for some products. And while we have limited inventory at this time, I assure you more product is on the way.

Be sure to follow @insteon on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) as we will be posting store inventory updates there.

We currently do not have any 2477D Dimmer Switches but they will be here very soon. The first 2477S On/Off Switches we received are almond. If you need white, you can order a 2400SWH Paddle Change Kit or, if you are replacing an existing switch, you can switch the almond paddle with your current switch.

We know there is a great need for PLMs (PowerLincs 2413S and 2413U) and, while we have them on order, there is an availability issue of one of the chips. We continue to look for other suppliers for this chip but at this time it looks like we will not have PLMs until the first quarter of 2023.

Thank you and I appreciate all the feedback we have been receiving.

Looks like insteon.com ships to US ONLY.

But, I just noticed that aartech.ca is listing Insteon products again, and even has some in stock, although those are likely holdovers from old inventory I think, for now.

I don't think aartech.ca had one Insteon item in stock a few weeks ago when I last checked, so I would say Insteon is feeding our Canuck counterpart nicely.

It will be interesting to see when stock starts appearing, whether there will there be "hording", that is shopping to build your own inventory, or have enough dropped the Insteon flag, and moved on?

I have no idea which will prevail, just musing.

I am mostly Insteon in a large install, but with a bit of Z-Wave, which I added when SmartHome imploded. Personally, don't think I'd change the ratio that much, but it is nice to be able to add unique Z-Wave products, impressed with them so far.

I doubt there will be hording.  Personally I will increase my spares inventory for 2477D but only by about 2-3 units.  I already have plenty of PLMs in spares but I suspect for those that remain with Insteon systems everyone that doesn't have a spare will buy a spare.

One thing I might buy an unusual qty of is white paddles for 2477D.  The old ones yellow with UV exposure I have several that are yellowed now and its quite obvious because the plate isn't yellowed.

Gotta' wonder if a bleach bath could make these work again for a few more years. It may make the plastic somewhat more brittle but it would be worth a shot.

Hopefully the new Insteon could offer replacement parts for those. They don't contain any ICs so there should be no excuse there and it could be quick money for Insteon.

I'm hoping they will revive custom button etching (and blanks) for keypadlinks.

In the conference call a couple of weeks ago, the Insteon CEO complained that the bankruptcy custodian sold off the etching machine.  He did indicate that he wanted to bring that service back, IIRC.

It's quite a stretch to understand the joke that you're attempting to make.  Even when understood it's not funny...

either that or you need to shut the porn off....

Button labeling with a label maker using transparent film is very easy and effective. Almost indistinguishable from etched buttons, and of course easily modifiable.

I've done that in the past as a temporary solution for clients. Once you see the etched buttons, you can see that there's a huge difference...at least to me. It's a good option for those who do not want to spend the money or if they don't bring the custom buttons back

Just received this email: for my friends up North

Hi all,

This is the update I have been waiting to send! Not only do we have more units of the Dimmer Switch (2477D) in stock, we also have a very limited supply of the Keypad Dimmer, 6-Button (2334-232) and Keypad Dimmer, 8-Button (2334-222) available.

Additionally, we have worked with our logistics partner and are now able to offer shipping to Canada.

If you have not done so already, please create a new account on our new store at shop.insteon.com. Remember, this store account has nothing to do with your Insteon Hub account (ie, what email and password you use to log into your Insteon mobile app).

Rest assured, we have more product in the pipeline. We will let you know when it hits the store later this month.

Thanks,

Ken
CEO

That would be too bad for aartech.ca since they were a major supporter of Insteon in Canada, offering guarantees that (old) Insteon wouldn't honour.

The progress intent is awesome but the outcome may be a disaster for their Canadian market considering the huge shipping costs charged to cross the border with product. Usually, crossing the border in bulk at much reduced prices is very beneficial to this process. They may price themselves out of the Canadian market without some vice to get them here, without ridiculous price hikes and poor warranty support.

I hope that isn't real! That would indicate the same old stupid Insteon mentality again for the third time. Please tell me it isn't real.

UPDATE. I just attempted to order the same TriggerLinc and came up with two shipping options. $171 USD and $180 USD for Fedex shipping.

Well, so far, I don't see any bright future there and hope this is some initial error that will be corrected in their maturity as a new company.

I'm not understanding all the hoopla. They just received their first shipment with a  limited number of devices.  Most likely not enough to send to other distributors.

Their email never stated they won't work with other partners. Only that they'll ship up north (something they did previously). Give them time to smooth out the kinks with supply. If they don't work with Aartech then I can understand all the extras.

Insteon just tweeted that Motion Sensors and Micro Modules are now in stock.

Wow, Micro Modules.  I didn't expect to see those anytime soon.  Of course, On/Off modules are not yet in stock, which is the one I need.

At least I don't live in Canada.  Sounds awful.
