I installed a poisy zMatter card in the external dongle case I ordered from UD.  The unit is not commected to Insteon Modem, I am just trying to add a couple of z-Wave devices I bought to test its connectivity.   On the Admin concole when I Z-Wave --> Add a Z-Wave Device I receive the error shown.  Firmware is 5.5.4 as shown.  Any idea what could be wrong?

You are on 5.5.4 and the latest firmware is 5.5.6 and a new one is expected before end of day. Earlier firmwares have some issues, you should consider upgrading, it may correct your issue.

If not, this is the closest match I found in the wiki:

Can't connect to ZMatter Z-Wave board / dongle

Sometimes the USB ports need to be reset within Eisy / Polisy. The simplest way to do that is to restart Eisy / Polisy (not just IoX). This will likely solve the connection problem.

If that doesn't solve it then the problem may be due to Z-Wave network traffic. Some Z-Wave networks with a high amount of constant network traffic can prevent IoX from detecting the port being used by the ZMatter Z-Wave+ board / dongle.

The port it is using will likely be either cuaU0 or cuaU1

You can override port detection by doing the following:

  1. Do this from a browser (if you use Help | About in Admin Console it will show your IP address e.g. something like 192.168.0.51)
    http://<your_polisy>:8080/rest/zmatter/zwave/port/name/override/set/cuaU1
  2. You should get this back (its important you see the 200)
    <RestResponse succeeded="true"><status>200</status></RestResponse>
  3. Restart IoX and it should connect to your ZMatter Z-Wave board / dongle
  4. If it does not connect, repeat the process but use a different port.

Thanks!  I'll get the new firmware on it and walk through your suggestions.  I appreciate the help!  I do think something is wonky with the USB port.  When I first opened the Admin console, There was no Z-Wave menu, but re-plugging in the dongle and a restart of the I0X caused the z-Wave menu to appear.

That might be tied to v5.5.4. There was an earlier version (prior to 5.5.5) that wasn't recognizing the dongle consistently, just don't remember the exact version number.

When the Zwave dongle is plugged into the USB port the eisy needs to be rebooted in order to recognize the dongle

I find there is a lot of rebooting required with z-wave dongles and recent updates.

Annoying but I'm sure it will be sorted out...

Thanks all.  I upgraded to the latest levels, and I was able to connect the eisy and control a Leviton Plug in Dimmer with Z-Wave Technology.  There is a wired in  Leviton outlet just 15 feet away that I cannot reach, but I also had the same issue with the ISY.  The best I was able to get was a "try again" message.  I need to diagnose some more.
