JMC Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Old ISY994i died after many years. Installed an unused 994i that I bought new a few years ago. The new unit came with firmware 5.0.16 and UI 4.9.0. Upgraded firmware to v.5.3.4 but UI remained at v.4.9.0. I've tried all the methods I've been able to find to upgrade the UI but they all fail. How do I upgrade the UI?
kzboray Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 @JMC The three most likely causes are: 1.) You have the wrong version of Java installed. You can install Java using this link.Java 8.371 2.) You have not cleared the Java cache. To do that open the Configure Java applet and then click <Settings> <Delete Files> and then make sure all three check boxes are checked and click <OK> 3.) JMC Posted April 28, 2023 Author Posted April 28, 2023 I neglected to say that my OS is Linux (Ubuntu 22.04). 1. Java version is openjdk 11.0.18 2. Java cache cleared using "rm -rf /home/mike/.cache/icedtea-web/cache/*" 3. start.jnlp simply reloads the current page.

Instead use http://ip.of.the.ISY/admin.jnlp Save the file and use it to open the admin console. This file is firmware dependent... it must be replaced anytime the firmware version is changed. Also officially the admin console was created for Java 8, changes to make it fire in openjdk 11.0.18 can't be predicted.
JMC Posted April 29, 2023 Author Posted April 29, 2023 Entering http://192.168.0.210/admin.jnlp on the Firefox URL line produces nothing. I removed openjdk-11-jre-headless and installed openjdk-8-jre-headless (version 8u362) to get Java 8. Now neither admin console nor iox launcher works. I get the error message Failed to execute command "usr/share/icedtea-web/bin/javaws.sh "https://isy.universal-devices.com/994i/4.9.0/admin.jnlp"". (No such file or directory). I checked /usr/share and the icedtea-web directory is gone. I guess I'll have to reinstall everything.

Polisy and eisy will need a port number, but your first post says your using a 994, is the IP correct? Unless you need the jdk don't install it.... use: https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp or just navigate to www.java.com and it should detect which version is best for you.
JMC Posted April 29, 2023 Author Posted April 29, 2023 Yes, I am using an ISY994i. I powered the system down overnight but upon restart, http://192.168.0.210/admin.jnlp still does nothing at all. It just sits there. I got the admin console running with icedteaweb ver.8 but it still shows firmware 5.3.4 and UI 4.9.0. Where can I find UI 5.x.x?

It just sits there. either the isy has a different IP address? (what happens when trying http://192.168.0.210 ?) Or you are on a different logical network or VLAN? or your browser is blocking .jnlp (although here I would expect it to tell you that it's doing that). Where are you getting 192.168.0.210? Why do you think that's the ISY's IP address?
JMC Posted April 30, 2023 Author Posted April 30, 2023 192.168.0.210 is the static IP address I assigned the ISY. It is the same IP address I had assigned to the old ISY. When I try 192.168.0.210, it goes to the default page (192.168.0.210/WEB/udajax.htm#/config/).

The preferred thing to do, and what UD recommends, is to enable DHCP in ISY and then make DHCP IP reservation in your router. That way, your router will assign the same IP address to your ISY. The wiki has the instructions for setting up the ISY in this manor. 1

According to UD, they eliminated the ability to use static IP addresses in eisy because of the overwhelming support calls for issues that were traced back to the use of static IP addresses. It can work fine and then all of a sudden it causes issues. Can't think of any reason to continue with static IP when DHCP reservations in your router take care of the same function but without the potential for problems down the road. 1
slimypizza Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 Just a thought but how are you assigning the static IP address to your new ISY994? Are you making the assignment in the router based on the MAC address – of the old ISY994? The new ISY994 will have a different MAC address so the old assignment will not work. Assuming this is what is happening, you will need to enter a new static IP assignment based on the new MAC address.
