Failed Notification Followed by Connected at Midnight

Is it normal for the Ecobee plugin to send out a notification to the mobile app at midnight every night that it's status is failed and then immediately send one out for connected?  Maybe it is PG3x that does that but either way I get those two messages every night at midnight for some reason.  Thank you.

I have been having the same problem with another pluginfor a number of months ...Here is the response I got from the developer.

When something happens at the same time every day, it is usually something external to the plug-in that's causing that disruption.  I.E. router reboot, dhcp server restart, etc.

The reality is that those types of events effect your entire network, but it may just be the UDI system that notices them and reports it as an issue.

The plug-in's are working correctly.  They log the network error and then re-establish the connection and continue working as if nothing had happened.   The only reason you even know that this happened is because we make use of the MQTT broker's built in facility to notify PG3 when a client (plug-in) connects and disconnects.  We do that so that PG3 can send out notifications and set the plug-in status appropriately.

While that is partially true, there have been some fixes by @bmercier to reduce this from happening. I was seeing it happen to many plugins and worked with Benoit to resolve them all.

I was also working with him on this issue.  I have many plugins that randomly send these, seems to be ones with wifi devices.  It was just Ecobee that was every single day at midnight.  Do we know when the fix he made for you @Jimbo.Automates will be available for everyone?  It is very annoying to get these notifications all the time when nothing is really wrong.

The fix is available for everyone. However, you must reinstall all plugins from the Purchase tab of PG3x. Update packages first.

Thank you!  I'll give it a shot.  Do you have to reinstall all plugins one by one?  Or can you just keep going or even use the reinstall all plugins option?

In the top level menu there is an option to reinstall all plugins. Previous post I indicated on the Purchase tab, but thinking about it, it might be the System tab.

Yes, it is on the system tab.  I had already started installing them one by one from the purchases page and not my plugin in slot 21 will not reinstall and I can't delete it either.  If I have to install in another slot it will mess up all my programs. Wish these upgrades always went smoothly.  I guess I'll restore PG3x and try the reinstall all option.

I was unable to delete it once I rebooted the Polisy.  But then I still could not reinstall it so I rebooted again, once to be able to delete it and once to see if I could then install it.  Nothing worked.  Restored a backup and all is up and running again.  Had to go into the AC and save all programs that had plugin devices from slot 21 though.  They were all yellow for status.  I will now use the reinstall all plugins just in case the restore does not install them.

After upgrade packages and reinstall of all plugins I still got the Ecobee midnight failed and reconnected notifications.  @DennisC I have not received any other failed/disconnected and then immediate reconnects for wifi device plugins since though so hopeful it fixed those.  Time will tell I guess.  Thank you!

@Jimbo.Automates I will try to pm you the logs again but for some reason it never finishes the upload on a pm.  It won't let me here so assuming the same for a pm.  Just says uploading and never finishes.  It's only 4.7 mb.

Let's make sure you have upgraded the Python interface to incorporate the fix.

To check Python interface version, restart the node server and check the logs in the first few lines following startup.

You are looking to see a Python interface version of at least 3.2.5 (or greater).

If you see less than v3.2.5, then try reinstalling all plugins from the System tab again and afterwards, check the Python interface version.

After verifying the Python interface, run an upgrade packages.

Edit: I just checked and the latest Python interface is v3.2.6.

Added current Python interface version.

UDI Python Interface for Polyglot version 3 3.2.6 Starting...

@DennisC Looks like it was already 3.2.6.  Do I still need to do another upgrade packages?

Yes, you should.

The Python interface is updated by reinstalling all plugins. So you are good there.

I just found out that there was a minor bug fix issued through the package update button a few days ago that might impact what you are experiencing. Let's make sure you have all of the latest and greatest.

If it happens after that, then send @Jimbo.Automates your log package to see if he can determine a cause.

Notifications for other plugins randomly

Could you be having network issues?

If not, it might be a good idea to create a UD support ticket so they can identify what the issue is.

You shouldn't have any issues sending a private message with the log zip files. What exactly is the issue?

It was just partially uploading and then freezing and never completing.  Now it just says Upload Failed.

Not a network issue that I can tell.  Internet is fine and I have a gigabit connection that speed tests at that.  I assume you mean a ticket for this upload issue?  I already have one open for the random notifications.

This doesn't look like the private message window. At the top of the page, select the envelop icon, when you hover over it, it will say messages. Then select compose new and enter the recipients name.

@btreinders It appears the forums site has somehow changed the file size that can be attached/uploaded. Nothing on the forums settings should be blocking file sizes, but there have been a couple of reports that files larger than 1MB cannot be uploaded to a forum post or a private message.

Options are:

  • Open a support ticket and upload the file there, but I don't think @Jimbo.Automates has access to that so it would just be forwarded to him.
  • Ask @Jimbo.Automates for his email (maybe in PM so it's not so public for obvious (spam) reasons) and send the file(s) directly to him.

We have reviewed at all the settings available to us from the developer and cannot find why this happened.
