Admin Console does not load

I've run into the same problem as posted above. All of the sudden, the IoX launcher will not open the ISY interface. The launcher opens, finds the ISY, but when I click on the entry, then on AdminConsole (LAN), nothing happens. I've cleared the Java cache, deleted and reinstalled Java, re-downloaded the start.jnlp file. I've power-cycled the ISY. Nothing works.

I can ping the ISY's ip address, and the ISY is functioning. I just can't load its interface. I've had this happen before, but was able to get things working again, but not this time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@abrayshaw (split your post out of a resolved topic that had no activity for 4 months so you might get more attention to your situation.)

First off, please confirm you're running ISY994. Let us know (if you can) what Firmware and UI you are running. I realize that if you can't get into admin console (to get the UI), but if you're seeing the ISY on launcher it should say what Firmware the device is running.

Did you select all three boxes in this process? The 3rd box clears the installed IoX Launcher icon from the Windows desktop. You'll need to download a new start.jnlp from the UD website to put the icon back on the desktop.

Alternate method would be to download the admin.jnlp file directly from the ISY (web browser go to: http://ip.address.of.isy/admin.jnlp).

Last question: What computer OS are you using? Windows, MacOS, other

Make sure you've got "plain" java downloaded directly from java.com and not a special version or higher version than just downloading from java.com (showing current as of today: Version 8 Update 441).

Geddy -

Thanks for your response. I am runnning an ISY944 on Windows 11 with firmware 5.3.0, and have made sure I have the latest Java direct from Oracle's website.

I was quite sure I had already done all that you suggested, but to no avail. However, I just followed your lead in your post to be sure (cleared the Java catch, downloaded a new copy of the Start app, etc.) and this time it worked.

This reminds me of an article written by Jerry Pournelle years ago in Byte magazine, where he was explaining how to get a file transfer to work between 2 TRS-80 computers: "if you have everything connected properly, hold your mouth right and have the favor of angels, it just might work". I guess I just wasn't holding my mouth right before. :)

Thanks again for your help.

Oh my, my first computer was a TRS-80 model 1. The best $1000 I ever spent. The things I learned with it, including assembler programming, served me so well for my 40 year IT career.

Yep, my first was a Model 1, tape recorder for program storage. Then moved up to a Model II, then Model III (I still have one of those in my basement), then a Model IV and even a Model 12! Shortly after, I think, the IBM PC's hit the market.

Dating ourselves, aren't we! :)

Today, I too had the issue where the admin.jnlp (AKA start.jnlp) would not start, it gave an error message of unable to load application. It worked this past Friday, when I last used the jnlp. I did as you suggested and downloaded the admin.jnlp directly from the ISY and it now works. However, now I go directly to the admin console, instead of being prompted for selecting UI interface.

That's correct behavior. The admin.jnlp is directly from the current IoX firmware. This is acceptable, but know for certain that if/when firmware is updated in the future you will need to clear the java cache and download a new admin.jnlp version. More than likely you could start with a new start.jnlp downloaded from the UD site and things would go back to IoX Launcher/Finder method.

I did download the start.jnlp earlier this morning from UD's website but it was giving me the same error message, even after clearing temp files and programs from Java config. The admin.jnlp is fine. Thank you for the heads-up on future updates. Will print and save advice.
