I have four Insteon outdoor modules (black ones).

Two work as they should and two don't.

When I press the set button on one of the modules both turn on.

Voice commands, commands from the guy, and app do nothing.

I get this pop up.

I tried restoring one of the devices but that didn't work either.

I should add for some reason the two that work are listed as Contact Sensor in the portal, and the other two are listed as Light

What are they controlling, landscape lights on a transformer, or LEDs?

Try unplugging the load and retesting with iox. If that works, the load is generating noise

If it keeps not working, they are probably too far away for single or dual band to reach.

In either case, see if you can place a dualband module somewhere inside or outside closer to them and it will repeat wirelessly

I was using three Insteon Outdoor modules: two operated storage-shed-heaters, and one turned on 200w of LED yard-lighting.

All were just a little bit flakey for 5-10 years, and I had to use programs that sent the "OFF" command several times (with 5sec pauses). I have phase-bridges, and some 25-ish other Insteon dual-band devices, but I was never fully satisfied. Eventually one of the heater-control Outdoor modules melted (eroded relay contacts??), and that prompted action last summer:

I replaced all my Insteon Outdoor Modules with Z-Wave. I have the Z-Wave 500 module in my ISy-994i, along with a small number (5?) of Z-Wave switches - just enough that communication is realiable. I used Zooz ZWave 800 Long Range Outdoor Smart Plug.

And that was miraculous! Now, my heaters no longer need the Insteon Noise Filters. My LED Yard-Lights turn ON and OFF reliably with a single command.

As a bonus: the Z-Wave outdoor modules I used also measure instantaneous power, and total power consumed - I find this helpful to ensure they're behaving as-expected.

SUMMARY: getting rid of Insteon OutDoor Modules resulted in a huge improvement for me. YMMV. HTH.

If unplugging the loads wworks, see if you can place a dualband module somewhere inside or outside closer to them and it will repeat wirelessly

They were controlling LED christmas lights, same as the other two

I've brought them in the house for testing and they still don't respond correctly. I tried changing the problematic ones to 'contact sensor' and Alexa just said it didn't support that. When I tell Alexa to turn them on as lights she says Okay but the error pops up and nothing happens

Have you tried doing a factory reset and then a device restore in IoX?

• never mind, went back to re-read. @Guy Lavoie is right, factory reset them and restore device

Not sure what "not responding correctly" means...

• won't turn them on,

• Alexa won't turn them on,

• Or both?
